I just graduated on Dec. 19th. Worst part of Fort Jackson is reception. Reception is like pre-basic. It’s where all the shitty drill sergeants get sent to live out the remainder of their assignment. They interact with you just enough to give you a basic understanding of what will be expected of you in BCT… and some just like to shoot the shit with trainees (there’s one DS there, I think in C Co, who’s definitely into the female trainees). You’re going to be standing a fuck-ton in reception. Like, literally all you do is stand in lines… all day. And any moments you have to sit down are gonna be spent fighting sleep. Everyone is so sleep deprived after a couple days, it becomes comical.

When I had basic training, our haircuts were 4 strokes 1,2,3,4 'NEXT' the gas chamber we had a large tree out back 90% of us hit that tree, our instructors, were laughing. we didn't train with females in 1982, we only saw females at KP. In my platoon I was a road guard, we didn't have buses it was old fashioned 'CATTLE CARS', we marched everywhere 'CATTLE CARS' was a treat.

Was there Sept 1989. Was missing my girl really bad through that time I was at Jackson. Went to fort Gordon for AIT afterwards. Ended up on Ft Bragg and in the Desert for Gulf War not long after that. Seems like a 100 years ago.

BCT at Ft Dix, NJ 1982, The Drill Sergeants put the recruit with the longest hair at the front of the haircut line. This genius showed up at Basic with hair half way down his back. The barber started the haircut and the Drills started yelling that it was taking too long to cut that long hair. When the barber had just the left side of this kid's hair cut off, the Drills yanked him out of the chair and sent him to the back of the line. It was hilarious, and we couldn't even laugh without getting smoked.

Went through BT at Ft. Jackson in 1965. No mercy from Drill Sergeants. You screwed up your ass got chewed out. No mercy because they knew that Vietnam was right around the corner for many including myself. Glad they have us hell.

This bootcamp looks so relaxed . It reminds me of a Navy or Airforce bootcamp. When I went to Army bootcamp back in 83 it was nothing like this they were screaming and yelling at us 24-7 plus we were down doing pushups ,flutter kicks grass drills or some type of exercise .This looks like a boys scout camp . What a joke.Plus I heard they give recruits something called a stress card so if the Drill Sergent is being to hard on you poor baby you can pull out that stress card and the instructor will back off .I also heard they can only make a recruit drop down for push ups 10 or 20 at a time .Wow the Army has really gotten soft .

the look like marine CAPS? Jarheads? I've always considered the day I left boot camp (Ft Jackson) I was i the best shape of my life.. To this day like 50 years later I wanna get BACK to that shape! It felt like they were starving us but I went from 145lb to 165.. To this day I remember that GAS exercise my first terror experience! Family Day sucked for me everyone else had family there..

Them new buildings have it all. My drills were all combat arms, but no combatives were taught and wasn’t strict at all. They taught us how the actual army is, while repeating the fact that we were POGs and the God loves the infantry. We had rusted pull-up bars, ran on the street and did our ACFT on a grass field. And our dfac had mold on the walls. Same with our bays and CTAs. Never going back to Jackson lmao

I've gone to Army BCT more than over a year ago in Ft. Leonardwood, MO, did a lot like what was on the video, except for the hand to hand combat we did not do.
