I think an issue with such analysis is the fact that we can't know of all of the investors portfolio as we only get those stocks where he had more than 1% holding. That means his actual portfolio might be completely different and so would the actual return.
@shankarnathАй бұрын
As investors, we never have 100% information on anything. Even the best investors work with 70% confidence (probability of success) In my opinion, progress is about nearing the 70%. For instance -- the 38 stocks in Mr. Kacholia's current portfolio (w/ 1% or more shareholding) is worth ₹2925 crores as of yesterday. I find it a rather acceptable amount to conduct an enquiry & come close to a 70% probability of success. If one waits to have 100% information of his portfolio, then any analysis will be a non-starter. This is no different from life -- the brain processes, it doesn't calculate

Advait infrastructure is another where he invested but then this month promoter buys 2K share from open market yep 2K shares. I don’t know why anyone would buy unless they don’t give some silly signal on increasing their stake. I am invested in E2E, Jyoti and Advait - I’ll take my 30% that groupies bring with them and will exit. Not from E2E that I am gonna hold. If they PAT of 1000 crore, which they can relatively very soon their market cap would go crazy and same goes for Sky Gold - which is also where he was invested but sold his stake but that was smart the company would still grow multi fold but much slower now.

Thanks! In my opinion, index and active are both good over the long-term. I explained this in my video on "Building a Strong & Successful Investment Portfolio" wherein I don't pick sides. If an active fund works best for one part of my strategy, I go with that. For another part of my strategy, I might choose an index fund. This way, I don't put any chains around me and I get the advantage of picking the scheme that is ideal for my portfolio.

Hi Shankar, This is a nice video and the feature on ticker tape could be a good starter for rookies like me to learn better too. Based on my observation of your recent videos and the segment when you speak about your newsletter there is no mention of Ceigall if I get it right. (Happy to stand corrected) I found the analysis quite convincing, based on some reading I did too but also see that the stock has taken a hit since the time the analysis got published. Curious to know if your views on the stock has changed and if that’s the reason for not calling it out in your videos.
@shankarnathАй бұрын
Hello. Ceigall India is the stock where I developed a lower conviction over time. In all other 7 stocks, I started with 50k and built it up to between 2.5-3.5 lakh of investment each (not so high in Sky Gold but all others :) ) With Ceigall and especially the weakness in the EPC sector, my conviction got lowered & I exited the stock before the big drop. Someone asked me something similar in the newsletter comments and I disclosed I'm currently invested in 7 out of the 8 stocks (while I kept the suspense, Ceigall was that exited stock). That's probably why this company doesn't come in my elevator pitch. However I continue to reveal the status in my Q2FY25 featured-stocks report with the hope that when things are looking up, I might re-enter this. Hope this clarifies.
@Callmenothing000Ай бұрын
It does. I think the question was also because the stock has tanked quite a bit from its recent highs but that’s also the overall markets. Good to know your stance now. I look to reading the Q2 status report you have mentioned.

Also Mr Kacholiya has added SG Mart recently,but didn't see that in the list of Stocks shown here. Is there any plans of doing any analysis of SGMart in the SubStack community?
@shankarnath27 күн бұрын
Hello. 1. Thanks for the suggestion. 2. Does Mr. Kacholia own more than 1% in SG Mart and has the disclosure been made on the exchange? 3. We had evaluated SG Mart. We didnt go ahead as it has very low EBITDA margins -- around 1%. Even a slight change e.g. if 5 of their stores go offline due to any reason, then I think it disturbs the entire framework. I'm not comfortable with a situation where there is a very thin margin of safety

Hi Shankar, I've recently joined the channel and have been watching a lot of your videos. Highly appreciate the clarity of thought and analysis! After having watched quite a few videos on the channel, I tried to come up with the best way to synthesize them and have a few follow up questions, and I'd greatly appreciate your responses. Perhaps I'm trying to oversimplify things, but here we go: 1. Have you developed any inclination towards a particular investment strategy from those that you discussed - Lynch's, value momentum, CCP etc.? Or have you dabbled with perhaps combining elements from multiple strategies and found one that works for you? Or perhaps this is a silly question and all these strategies only act as filters to get to a small set of stocks, and from there it's the same assessment for all stocks? Or perhaps specific strategies work better in specific market conditions/sectors? 2. Do you try to use these strategies primarily while constructing your portfolio or do you stick to the usual rule of division among large/mid/small/micro? Essentially, what's the starting point for construction - mix of strategies or mix of stock types? Additionally, I think you're a long-term investor from my limited understanding (you mentioned 40% of your portfolio is micro cap). Just very roughly - what split do you target? Heavily skewed towards micro and mid, with ~20% in mid and large? I'm also a long term investor and would probably want to skew my portfolio towards micro and small, so insights would help. 3. Finally, I've been thinking of taking a PMS/AIF as I do have the corpus, but having watched your videos, I'm beginning to think self managing a portfolio isn't that difficult. After all, a PMS would also be with a long term view, and I'm not sure they would add anything on a daily basis monitoring. It would be more of a monthly monitoring and the quarterly results will likely play the most important part. What are your views on this and apart from any ad-hoc news, do you mainly focus on quarterly monitoring as well? Sorry about the long post and thanks again for all the analysis! -Sahil
@shankarnathАй бұрын
Thank you very much, Sahil ji for your kind appreciation 🙌 1. Not a specific strategy but I'm leaning more on GARP with near-term revenue visibility. I think this gives me two benefits -- a) a cushion against short-term decline in stock price and b) if all goes as planned, this can be a long term bet too. I'm not a fan of mix-and-matching different strategies. Too many criteria should also be avoided. I myself focus on revenue growth, EPS growth, margin visibility and forward ratios with a 1.5-2 year outlook 2. My portfolio is a mix of MF & stocks. I discussed this at length in the video on "Building a Successful Investment Portfolio". Briefly - it's 80% MF, 20% stocks and overally allocation is 50-25-25 but as the portfolio is growing in size, I'll be moving it towards a 40-30-30. Within MFs, I pick scheme basis their market cap band and the style of investing. There's a growing preference towards factor funds. You mentioned micro-caps. That's right, my stock picking is mostly small and some micro caps (micro cap is mcap of 5,000 crores or less). In that context, my current portfolio is about 50-25-15-10 in terms of large-mid-small-micro 3. Yes, I monitor all my stocks on a quarterly basis. I don't review mutual funds at all as my portfolio setup gives me comfort & stability. Stock monitoring is more on a readout of the quarterly earnings call transcript. I don't pay much heed to news items because the focus is the next 1-1.5 years. I find it better to receive an adequate amount of information before taking a decision. I'm a balanced investor, very careful with my money Hope this helps!
@SahilSharma-uo9bsАй бұрын
@ excellent, thank you Shankarji. Just a quick follow up - if you had the option, would you prefer a MF over PMS if they had the same focus (let's say primarily small cap)? I understand MF will be more flexible in terms of capital requirements etc, but perhaps PMS gives you a better return if you're more aggressive and long term investor? Thanks again, and I look forward to being a consistent part of this community!
@shankarnathАй бұрын
@@SahilSharma-uo9bs If I had 6 crores, I would like to split it 3 ways -- a) 2 crores of MFs with a focus on index esp. factors, b) 2 crores of PMS and c) 2 crores on stocks based on my learnings. I should disclose that I'm not following this with b) completely missing from my portfolio and that amount mixing with a)
