BRICS is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa and its creation was initiated by Russia. The membership has now grown to 11 and African nations have not been left behind. We look at the significance of BRICS in the geopolitics and trade sector and the net effect globally. De-dollarization has been a key issue across the globe and the member nations are working towards the use of local currencies for payments between member states, what does this mean for the world? Russia’s Vladimir Putin is the current chairperson amidst isolation on the diplomatic stage because of the Russia Ukraine war. What happens next?

I think that East Africans are wagering too much on the BRICS and the USD. Why is it not illegal to index rent and other prices to the USD. EAC should be trading more with each other and investing in their own economies? The BRICS currency will not change anything for East Africans if they are going to trade with BRICS as a dependent economy. If Africans continue to ship their raw materials to BRICS countries then purchase finished products from them then what has changed?

Overturning a 5 century hegemony doesn't happen _overnight_ - however, it is fascinating watching the hegemons squirm as their African hegemony is slowly but surely chipped away...
