You all have the right concept. Family compound. Stay close and keep the kids even closer. Make sure your brother Can tell he’s learned from any mistakes and understands turning errors around. Make sure he keeps his next move his best move. Don’t share too much. But since he doesn’t have social media… yet that’s a plus. He’s awesome and on the right track! 💪🏾

I love how the young man is from and understands “the hood” but is far more interested in focusing on the future. He’s like, “yeah, this the hood now, but let me show what I’m going to make of it.” Better yet, redefine the Hood as Family Bettering Together.

I live on fenkell in between Schaefer and Greenfield, behind abandoned Cooley HS next to a drug house, I made a deal with them...I turned their power on illegally and they look after my house....I was robbed and had to shoot a 12 year old last July at scoolcraft and Greenfield waiting in the bus, I aimed low to not kill him. Since then I never take the bus without my bicycle. I work at Jefferson north assembly and take the bus everyday...it's bad...I was almost robbed last Monday 1am at scotten and west grand, dude walked up very slow towards me I knew he was about to rob me, I hopped on my bike and rode to the next stop, soon as he seen I was leaving he yelled asking for a light! Ya no thanks man....u can't ride a bike more than an hour before u get a flat because half these people ride around smoking blunts and tossing liquor bottles out the window so the sidewalks are covered in glass. Here's something typical by I seen yesterday at the gas station, woman come out with a new born baby and throws it on the lap of a 5 or 6 year old in the passenger side, no seatbelt no car seats, she gets in the driver's and side lights half a blunt, cranks the gangster rap until the entire car was buzzing and rattling and destroying the kids ears, then speeds off over the curb....place is a hell hole these people care less about this city and constantly destroy it. Every drug dealer owns the same 3 cars... U swear to God,. Challenger,...charger or avenger...that's all they buy. Pandemic made these worthless thugs rich as hell.

@@jonathanr9051 it’s a bad thing when it comes to fully populated cities and people are forced to move out of their homes. As an outsider though, it's pretty tragic to watch. Seeing a once great country fall on such hard times. The phrase American dream used to mean something to the world, it's kinda become a sick joke now. Of all developed countries, the US has the lowest social mobility...... Its literally easier to make something of yourself from nothing (the american dream) in Europe now, than in America. This has to change, everyone hopes it can

I fixed them up while working two jobs and raising my daughter. She was two when I bought them. Then I leveraged them about ten years later to buy two more. Still worked two jobs the whole time plus DJing everywhere I could. Today, I'm a New York Realtor and a Machinist. My daughter is now twenty years old and I'm looking for the next hustle. @@Anonymous-pn4fv Thanks for your input anonymous-pn4fv, no one asked. We are all aware that he got arrested for a crime he comitted, you may be surprised but that doesn't erase anything else said. Being born poor makes you much more likely to commit crime, being raised in a culture where teens do that stuff to be cool increases that chance, this isn't justification, it's explanation. "Sticky at the edges" is a term economists use for a reason, people are molded by the culture they grow up in. It is sad for a person to grow up in the culture he did. He did what most can't due to a disgusting system where instead of aiming to make criminals better, we simply seek to punish them (without rehab). That deserves credit.

@Figi Moheder If you don't know what you're talking about just say that, there's copious murders in every big city across America, some less, some more, Detroit had a spike in the 60s and early 70s and every city had a boom in crime across the board in the 80s and 90s with the crack epidemic and impending "war on drugs", Detroit was hit hard because of companies like gmc leaving in search of greener pastures. white people still live there? idk what y'all think Detroit looks like but it's genuinely a nice city. there's quite a few abandoned buildings because of the economic downturn a few decades ago, but in the Bible belt and north eastern US that's not too far out of the ordinary. look into the history and redlining laws against people of color in the United States, just TRY to be slightly educated before you talk online. Some of y'all are genuinely cess pools of human beings.

Don’t call it inflation. This is the end result of government “stimulus”. It is simply not a sustainable concept to print money for NO WORK…the only thing that does is devaluing every single dollar that was EARNED. Then when that stimulus is gone the high prices remain. Who does that hurt? Just say NO to government handouts, call your politicians. Say YES to learning valuable skills, it takes everyone WORKING to have abundance in society.

Both of these guys are cool man. I've lived everywhere from Alabama to Michigan. 5 states. Small towns to big cities. I lived right outside Detroit for 3 years. I'm telling you, there are good and bad everywhere and I've met them. People are people. City or country, we have our struggles. When I moved to the city, I was a country boy aka fish out of water lol. It was faster paced and a lot more tempers, different cultures, people from other countries, but man I learned so much. It's numbers man. More people, more problems. Between Detroit and all the surrounding cities, you're going to meat people from all over the world. Like minded people tend to flock together, so with me living in Hazel Park at 10 mile and working 3 jobs in 3 cities, 7 days a week, you really understand the word melting pot. One of my 3 jobs was a security supervisor in a hospital in Southfield. I met ladies from the middle east and south Africa. I loved them. They were so nice and told me how happy and blessed they were to be American and how they did it right. They came here legally, worked hard, got nursing degrees, and are living the dream. People who move here from poor countries, war torn or tyrannical countries, appreciate this country more than many people born here. If you're willing to work hard and work a lot, the jobs are there. Do what you have to until you can do what you want to. It took me years of working 7 days a week, not much sleep, 4 hours a night doing college courses online, and another semester of working 2 jobs plus an 8 hour class on Saturdays. Now I work 1 job and make more money than those 3 jobs combined with a 4 on 4 off schedule. Half a year to enjoy my hard work. Years of struggling and stress paid off. If I can do it, anyone reading this can. Don't give up. Keep grinding. Awesome video.

Also as a Marygrove College alum, just wanted to add that the College was a very good Liberal Arts College that was well known for it's Dance and Teaching programs. It's campus grounds were very quiet and peaceful despite being in the middle of the city, and the buildings featured beautiful neo gothic architecture. Unfortunately Marygrove has closed it's doors, and is no longer excepting undergraduate or graduate students.

Im from suburban Detroit, my father lived in Detroit until the mid 60's. John is a good man. You can tell from briefly seeing who he is, he has a good heart. It is crazy to think how big Detroit was and the shell that is left. The city was abandoned by its leadership. Every home you see has a story. Families were raised there. Children grew up there, people grew old there, eventually those who built that house into a home, died there. Fascinating to think of it that way and see them in the shape they're currently in.

I like your videos, you go around with a positive outlook, non judgmental approach and mostly non opinionated. I especially like this one because it made me remember when I was there in the late 80's, it was 88 or 89 not sure exactly but I had been on the road since 1980, kind of living a bohemian life, working here and there doing all sorts of work, meeting all kinds of people, I just enjoyed life that way. So in the late 80's after years of hopping all over, I was starting to think about settling down somewhere, I was hitchhiking through Michigan and this guy picks me up, after a while he asked me if I needed work, I said ''Sure, what do you have in mind?" , that's when he explained that he just got this house for free from the city of Detroit in a dilapidated neighbourhood but could only keep it and fully own it if he did a lot of work on it, in our conversation I had mentioned I already had some experience in many aspects of construction. I accepted his offer, which was actually generous, as long as I could show I knew what I was doing, that I was good at solving problems and worked hard. I promised to help for a full week but I ended up spending the whole summer there, working 6 days a week, this guy kinda convinced me that I should buy the house right next to his and that way we could start some sort of reviving of the place. Sadly after a meeting with the city officials, I found out that they would not let me have a house, you see, I'm a Canadian citizen, they'd let me have one if I outright bought the place, which I could not afford, the guy I worked for even offered to back me but I just didn't like the idea of being indebted to anyone, bohemian life and all hehe. I guess I was just not ready yet to settle down. But I had a great time while I was there. I lived in the house for near 3 months, the owner would go to his apartment at night and came back in the morning to work, once in a while he'd spend the evening with me, went out and got us food, beer and some weed and we played music together, we were both guitar players. Some night it was quite freaky, often heard gun shots not too far away, once in a while people would come snooping around the house to see if they could get in, but nothing bad ever happened. All and all it was a special experience. I wish I could remember the guy's name. Sorry for he long story, it could have been much longer as there is much more to it, it just what your video brought back into my mind. :)

John seems like a great guy. I love his vision on rebuilding these beautiful neighborhoods, his knowledge of the areas. I’d love to work with this man to help rebuild this area. If only I knew stuff about real estate or carpentry or something. Lol. Hope to see an update on John and this area.

He drove through some pretty central areas like Boston Edison and the university district...nothing really far out on the east or west sides where you would not question whether your in the hood or not.

Oh the flashbacks! I was a 3rd generation Detroiter. Now, none of us are. It was a great place with grand old buildings. It hurts my heart to see. We were mostly in SW. My husband's family were mostly on the east side. I think the last left in the late 90s.

I extremely enjoyed your video on Detroit. John your tour guide really helped me appreciate what Detroit is turning into. I had negative feelings about that city. But seeing you interacting with the people of that city warmed my heart. I now want to visit that city.

I lived there from 2018-2021 it is a beautiful city and I miss it. I live back in New Jersey now where I grew up and the energy in Detroit and the people out there are just so much friendlier and real. Hard to explain, it's just a better vibe out there. I might go back.

I have to admit, this episode is a lot more interesting and captivating than the one downtown. The stories of these people are fascinating, and their entrepreneurial spirit they have admirable. I only wish folks in my country had such courage to open and run businesses in such areas.
