Hello Everyone! This is the start of a roughly 7-part series about the Amish. This was one of the most fascinating shoots I've done to date. And it makes me love the USA so much more. The fact that so many different people, with different backgrounds, and vastly different views on life can live within the same borders. Truth be told it wasn't the easiest footage to get but I'm happy with how this series came out and I hope you will be too. I learned a lot and many of these lessons will come through in this series. For those that don't know, I post every Sunday so this channel will be Amish-focused for the near future. LOVE IT! ❤ Outstanding Peter! I am apparently "English"...yet I am also a "born again Christian", and have been since 1984. So Peter, if I were with you and Josh, I would have asked him... Regarding the Amish who completely cut themselves off from "English", how do they as Christians fulfill "The Great Commission", which is found in *chapter 28 of Matthew's Gospel,* _"And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”_ - Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus taught that we must go out into the world and spread the gospel (there are plenty of other passages as well which declare this command). How can they obey Christ, yet remain cut off from outsiders?

After my son was born I couldn't quit drinking due to severe post partum depression and psychosis. My son stayed with a Mennonite family for the first few months of his life and they treated me as family. They didn't judge me and they only wanted me to get better and back to taking care of my children. I'm 5 years off the sauce and I'm forever grateful to the Mennonites of Colorado for their help.

Most of the more severe illnesses happen to people by surprise, unexpectantly, impacting first in the brain, then in the corresponding organ which that part of the brain controls. The end of WWI had absolutely everything to do with the Flu and lung TB outbreak that occurred killing millions. In nature, the biological conflict linked with a territorial fear (just what it means-a fear in your territory, your home, your community, etc.) is a widening of the bronchia (tissue loss). Your body attempts to widen your bronchia in order to allow more air into your lungs to give you more strength and energy to fight to keep your territory safe. Stay with me.......The biological conflict linked with a death fright impacts the lungs. The lungs attempt to grow larger in order to allow more air in because breath equals life, as we all know. No breath equals death. While you are in the fear or death fright conflict, you notice no symptoms of “disease”, except you have cold hands, cold feet, you can’t sleep, you awaken at 3 AM every night, you have little appetite. During the WW1, millions of people were in fear of the bombing of their homes and cities where the war was most active. Fearing for their lives, their loved ones in the war, their ability to survive. The food in the stores was sparse due to shortages. This lasted for 4 long years! The longer the conflict, the worse the healing phase. Within 2 weeks of the German Chancellor announcing the end of WWI, these millions of people ALL went into the healing phase all at the same time. It is during the healing phase that you experience symptoms of illness! What is the healing phase of the bronchia widening? Severe bronchitis, pneumonia. The body attempts to refill this lost tissue and you experience inflammation, fever, coughing, body aches, fatigue, etc. What is the healing phase of the extra lung tissue that grew? Decomposing of the tissue by TB bacteria and fungi. The symptoms of this healing phase are: severe coughing up of blood and tissue, fever, inflammation, severe mucous, body aches, fatigue. During this decomposing of the extra tissue (tumor), the body expels a lot of protein, and without replenishment, severe protein loss can result in death. Antibiotics did not exist yet. If TB bacteria does not exist in a person or they have been vaccinated against TB (big mistake), then the tumor will simply encapsulate and become dormant and not harm you. Who died during the Spanish Flu? Mainly the poor who could not afford to buy meat and proper nourishment, and the people who were directly impacted by the bombings and destruction of their homes. Millions of people suffered fear and death frights during the fighting of WWI, and millions of people all went into healing at the end of it. Not everyone was affected because not everyone suffered the same way. It’s not a “flu”, it’s not something you “catch”. It’s biological, meaningful, and unavoidable. One hundred years later, a Fear Campaign begins, using the media to spread it......

The amish moved in our small town a few years back. The "swartzentruber" type. I work at a outdoors store so got to know a lot of them. Very nice hard working people. They Sell fresh grown produce and have a little saw mill where they build sheds to sell at real low prices with great quality. They always wave and smile when they pass you by. Great presence to have in the community. They give a boost to everyones overall health and morale. Love to see them grow

Linguist and German here with a fun fact. Pennsylvania Dutch is a whole set of high German dialects (meaning they're from the German highlands & Switzerland). These are anglicized versions of different Frankish, Palatinate, and Alemannic dialects (the one in the vid is Alemannic). What he calls "High German" is a transliteration of "Hochdeutsch", but the English designation for it is "Standard German". Germans who know a bit about German dialects can still tell pretty well where an Amish community emigrated from based on what their Dutch sounds like 200 years later.

@michab3697 Fellow German here and your fun fact actually taught me something...I didn't know there was a difference between "Standard German" and "High German" (Standard Deutsch / Hochdeutsch) as from my experience everyone refers to standard germans as high german and I had no idea that there is a definition of high german for being the dialect(s) spoken in the higher (elevation wise) regions down in the south. Very weird that in the lower part of Germany (NI, HH, SH..) we say that we speak high german but in fact speak standard german. Thanks for providing that extra bit of info which led to my enlightening wikipedia search. =)

I'm a Holmes County Mennonite and I thought Josh did a really good job explaining himself and his people. It was good to see a lot of familiar places near my home here on KZbin. One reminder though. There is a continuum from Swartzentruber Amish all the way to very liberal Mennonites. Josh almost straddles the fence between the two, landing on the Mennonite side, so he is on the fringe (not in a bad way) of being Mennonite. A whole lot of Mennonite people look more like Peter than Josh, A whole lot, if not the majority vote. A good many women do not wear coverings. And most Mennonites consider themselves English. Other than that, he did a excellent job. Most people here get along whether they are Amish, or English. 😊

Living in the country, especially Amish roads no one is driving crazy fast, there are no foreign cars, and there are people who ride with horses. If a person is riding a horse with a buggy, they can go but so fast. The respect for their community will keep them safe. Plus, it isn’t a city, so there is gaps of cars & buggies when driving. What will he even drive into. That’s how safe they are, I bet you they rarely ever have accidents because of this. He can do that, us in the English world/cities can’t. My grandfather lives far out in the country in South Carolina, with just farm land around him. You could drive with your eyes closed for probably 5 minutes and you won’t see another person or hit anything-quiet an exaggeration but true. It was noticeable, but normal for me.

I own an optometry practice in a fairly large Amish community. They knew my dad, who was their optometrist for whole families. He did the hard work of getting the Amish community's loyalty because he was a great doctor. I love the Amish community because they pay either cash or checks, so I don't have to pay merchant fees. Being a two hour drive from homes county , I visit them often… They love their land and live a virtuous lifestyle. Even the local Walmart in Millersburg, Ohio has a buggy and horse stable.. In Berlin Ohio there’s probably some of the best Amish food markets in the country not to mention the restaurants, antique stores and apple orchards .

This is my second time to watch this vid. I must say that Josh is a very decent and very nice person. He seems to be more than willing to take the time and patience to explain the difference of different parts of his culture. I constantly am reminded - no matter how different someone else and their culture may be - we are all really alike and not so differnt. They have a home apathetic doctor, but, anyone can go see this doctor whose educated in it and, they use herbs and, such! I have lived in some rural areas in Indiana, in Cross Plains, Indiana the Amish and Mennonites were my neighbors at one point. They also would also serve food at different community functions and, sell their different products! Like even home spun brooms! But, basically a the home apathetic doctor also does Home Births, if they need to go to the hospital where it’s safer on them and, the baby, their doctor will recommend that as needed!

Mexican woman here ! I married a Canadian Mennonite ! His family tree comes russia/ Prussia (his dads side ) and holland (moms side ) He is more of a modern Mennonite also and is a grain farmer! Most speak what’s known as Pennsylvania Dutch, it’s more like German though! I was up in Indianapolis, IN at a big hospital to have surgery quite some time ago, while me and my, ride were in the lobby and, in came a big huge group of Amish came in, this was long before Covid, and, as soon as they got there food was passed out from a big huge cooler and picnic basket, both men and, women pitched in to help, but, even then, you weren’t to be doing that in a hospital! But, they kept eating and, talking with their mouths full, even the little ones, but, they even brought a cleaning supplies and, a container with water and, they cleaned it all up and, put it away and, washed these their hands from a wash cloth and, a little soap and, then, dried their hands! They even seen a broom and mom and, one lady done that! It was like the whole family and, then, some came!

I don't think it's a simple life at all. They work very hard and some don't even have electricity. It may sound nice but can you imagine having to use an outhouse during a snowstorm in January when it's -10 degrees.

@kartofle123: There are other options than the outhouse, such as chamber pots, if the weather is truly that bad. But it’s nothing our ancestors didn’t survive through, so it wouldn’t kill us either. Some people have indoor composting toilets, and a lot of the out houses I have used are actually pretty nice and have just a little breezeway, with a roof still attaching them to the back of the house.

This is the most interesting videos I've seen in a while. I love Josh's openness and kindness. I'd be attracted to this lifestyle. The honesty is so lovely in a world driven by dishonesty & hatred. How refreshing to hear him say "we pay taxes because we are required to do so by law". He knows that it would be sinful not to do so. Can't wait for new videos.

We were just in Holmes County today. Went to the livestock auction and to a farm to get produce and what-not. It's beautiful. We love going out to "Amish" country for the day. Everyone's sp nice. The amish are so polite. I'm Asian and they often. Like to ask questions which is lovely. They're genuinely curious and not hostile in anyway which is a major change for me. Especially during covid

@@Momknows absolutely they do! My husband loves their pies and buy meat from them. Local and organic plus helping independent people not huge conglomerates. My daughter 2 loves everything they have especially cookies. I love buying jams and jarred things!!! The pasta is always fabulous too. Made some tonight with locally sourced amish beef which we grind ourselves and some spices we bought to try out.

There are millions of Conservative , Evangelical Christians in Britain, America etc. who live similar lives to the mennonites and Amish, but we do not wear the clothes and we do not need a rule book except for the Bible. We believe in Holy living and do not smoke, drink alcohol, go to the cinema, theatre or a pub, unless we are buying a meal. We do have a TV, but tend to watch documentaries rather than music shows , comic shows. You Tube is very good because of its informative documentaries We read the Bible every day. You can find us in a number of denominations .We believe in keeping our homes clean and neat as honouring to God.

as someone who's lineage was amish, grew up down the road from the amish, had homes built by the amish and family worked with them, they have always been kind people to me. they keep to themselves yet provide for communities outside their own. they are the perfect neighbors. *my father was one of 16 in his family. it was quite common to have a dozen or more kids where we were from*

I once helped a carload of Mennonites who were stranded on the side of the highway 20 years ago. I'd never come in contact with any before. Some of the coolest people I'd ever met. I still think of them from time to time and hope they are all doing well and not being mistreated.

Saturdays. One of the 10 commandments is not to break sabbath (which is Saturday,not Sunday). Church on Sunday was created by the Papacy. Church on Sunday breaks the sabbath commandment.

I can’t even find a church in my area that worships on sabbath. I was taught wrong my entire life, and the past 3 years I’ve been working on finding Gods grace in my mistakes and getting it right. 💜
