Could you imagine the turnaround that Mexico would experience if a Bukele type administration actually swept up the smaller criminal localtional gangs , the cartel mentality that rules over the neighborhoods all the way into the national Mexican military, political regime, and cleared them out into a country that ruled with a predominant, legitimate lawful government, with a high Gnp, a fearless workforce that Mexicans are gifted with, and . . reversing they're national constitution to open up trade of the resources (oil) that restrict them as of now ? We would be calling them a super power. But good luck on that

I wouldn't think it's possible there because of how deep the corruption runs. Even police and politicians aren't safe if they speak up. Then again I'm sure everyone thought the same for El Salvador before they did it.

In a state of emergency, human rights like due process may be suspended but only under extreme circumstances. The US has a history of fearing a too powerful and corrupt government while Latin America has a history of believing in a stronger government to fix the people's problems...I have heard. If the US becomes Latin America which it is in danger of, it will destabilize. We want strength but not a dictator.
@AnnacolleenEttersАй бұрын
Our laws should protect the law abiding. Once a person joins a gang, they should lose the rights that protect the rest of us.
@AnnacolleenEttersАй бұрын
@@rianbey1 They should lose their rights, when they crush the rights of the law abiding.
@rianbey1Ай бұрын
@@AnnacolleenEtters Ok, but when the people accept leaders taking away criminal's rights, those leaders or the next leaders may take away the rights of the people. Governments by definition are a conflict of interest. Their job is to protect the infrastructure that serves the people but also their job is to protect the government and often those two jobs contradict each other. How many times have the people in search of a solution created a monster? Also when a leader is too powerful, they make many enemies so they can never retire without fear of retribution and so they cling to power even more causing greater harm while stealing the peoples representation. There may be a popular and wise dictator but having created a precedent/example for such concentration of power, the next leader will abuse the job. The old way is to have a peace chief and a war chief. When the counsel of elders declares war, the War Chief steps up and takes extraordinary power. When the counsel says the war is over, the War Chief gives up all power and the Peace Chief shares power with the counsel of elders and others. Tradition gives the War Chief immunity. The Greeks had similar and voted in the Dictator. It's a very old problem. I think it's reasonable to declare war upon the cartels...but not forever.

I work with a woman from El Salvador. She became a single mother of 2 when these people robbed and killed her husband one night.
