Nasa: builds one rocket in a few years Spacex: builds the world's largest and most advanced rocket every day

4:15 "Linear adjacent flow" refers to an optimized production process often used in manufacturing. The concept aims to arrange workstations or processes in a linear sequence, where each stage is adjacent to the next. The goal is to create a smooth, continuous flow of materials from one process to another with minimal delay or disruption. This approach minimizes unnecessary handling or movement and reduces waste, queue times, and other inefficiencies typically seen in batch production. This method is particularly valuable in just-in-time and lean manufacturing systems, where reducing waste and increasing efficiency are key goals. In some cases, companies aim for "single-piece flow," where a single product moves through the entire production line without waiting for other products, which enhances production speed and reduces waste further
@kungfoochicken0828 күн бұрын
It seemed pretty self-explanatory to me. Even if its not a common term, it should have been fairly easy to understand the concept he was describing.

I have no doubt SpaceX can one day manufacture 100s or even 1000s of Starships, but the bigger question will be will the FAA allow SpaceX to fly them? Or are we going to see 1000s of ships just standing in a very big "rocket garden"?
@backacheacheАй бұрын
True, with the Mars window opening soon the faa's processes need to be as slick as spacex's, perhaps it needs to be flipped so that the faa etc have deadlines and without an objection in that timeframe it's an automatic yes.😮

The FAA needs to stick to airplanes which they're not very good at if Boeing is an example. The government needs to create a new agency for space flights.

The Star Factory was designed wrong. It should be an assembly line. With a mainline that can have one or two rows (one side for the Booster and the other for the Starship. Then perpendicular to the Mainline would be a (11) linear assembly line for each ring segment which is usually 3 to 4 rings tall. Each Line would, Stamp, Roll, and Plumb, Wire, and stiffen each segment. with maybe a 30-40' ceiling. The Mainline would go 40 to 280'. Each would be built from the ground up on its own mobile stand needing as little as 4- and no more than 11 Robot Welders. After the Engines are installed from below, they move outside to the back of the building to the Rocket Garden which would run the whole length of the Mainline parking 30 Starships and Boosters both protecting them from the elements and allowing for pressurizing each awaiting testing. The glass offices would run the length of the Mainline hung from the ceiling separating the Mainline from the linear segment lines. The rest of the factory would be building the subcomponents... Flaps, Sensors, Header Tanks, etc so would only require a 10 or 20' ceiling. Too much wasted space.

The biggest problem I see is trying to fly 1000 Starships a year. That would almost certainly put pricing pressure on natural gas (whose primary ingredient is Methane) and is delivered to homes all over America for heat. As natural gas prices rise, politicians will be pressured to do something about it - and Elon Musk will quickly find that his Mars Colony has lost support in Washington DC.

The question is...what are they going to put in all those rocket ships? I haven't seen any plans (or news of any plans) for any new space stations, moon stations, or anything that is waiting on a 1000-rocket ride share to space, to the moon, or even less...Mars. I suppose the "build it and they will come" mentality is at work here. Granted, it is exciting to think about the possibilities. If Starship is successful and cost are driven down such that 1000s of flights to orbit are a reality, then think what private industry could do with that kind of access to space. New space stations... Really, really, big telescopes... A permanent presence on the moon... Maybe Mars...
