Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke visits a hidden gem of a country house in Shropshire, close to the border with England and Wales - Pitchford Hall. Pitchford Hall has been considered England's finest Elizabethan half-timbered house. The recent history of the hall is turbulent one - in 1992 it was sold and lost to the family. By extraordinary determination and endeavour over 25 years the family has now returned. Rowena Colthurst, whose mother inherited Pitchford in the early 1970s, has worked tirelessly with her husband James to get the family home back - but is now faced with the enormous task of recovering the building from years of neglect.
From Elizabeth II to Cleopatra, Real Royalty peels back the curtain to give a glimpse into the lives of some of the most influential families in the world, with new full length documentaries posted every week covering the monarchies of today and all throughout history.

It is so easy to become completely disillusioned with the world, yet someone with a heart overflowing with generosity of spirit returned this painting. I believe to my depth of my soul, Mercy is given back ten fold to those who show it. Whoever got this painting back for the dear family, will be blessed, when he/she cries for it most. I have seen it happen in my lifetime. The power of mercy is never ending. Always give show and be part of mercy!

I am so escited to have discovered Julie and her love for these historic mansions! I loved this one about Pitchford Hall and the family's story about reclaiming their ancestral home. I particularly enjoyed seeing her son going on the tour with them. He was entertaining and respectful - a lovely family. I'm glad they were able to buy the house back and I wish them well in restoring it, especially in finding resources to help in that quest. I am Native American, but I've loved reading about the royals and British aristocracy since Princess Diana came on the scene. There are no records of my ancestry older than the establishment of the reservations in the mid 1800's, so I am a little envious of Europeans and their centuries old records. Great story and thank you for offering these videos.

It’s a very stunning house but there are others that can hold their own; Samlesbury Hall in Lancashire, Plas Mawr in Conwy and if you want an original Tudor castle, try Tattershall in Lincolnshire, (which is built with some of the oldest bricks of the country). What l have come away with is the resilience of the soul and the kindness of strangers - bringing this place back to life is a lovely, lovely story.

So very delighted to find you, Julie, and this incredible programming. I almost hesitate to write this as others will think I'm making it up. As a small child, I didn't have a 'play house', I built myself a 'mansion' in the trees. As a young woman my exploration took me to every book about the aristocracy, the way of life (which was very familiar), and their holdings. Living three years in Europe and Great Britain.I visited every stately home and property I could find. It simply never grew old. In the past, when the aristocracy began to lose their estates because of high taxes, I cried many many times. Living in London, Hampton Court Palace became a recurring event in my life. Simply taking in the hammer beam ceiling on every visit was a great source of joy, as was getting lost in the maze. I'm an old woman now. My love and interest has never wavered. Did I live this life in past lifetimes? Whatever the reason, you have come into my life with this incredible production. I wanted to thank you. Each episode is an indepth study and absolutely fascinating. I walk there beside you. It warms my heart. Thank you, Julie.

Well, you certainly make a case for past lives! Honestly, sometimes that is the only explanation that fits. I'm an Anglophile, always have been (I'm old, too 😮) I can't watch the film of the destruction of estate homes in England after WWI, literally have to turn my head. But you are VERY emotionally involved here. Maybe someday you'll have a past life regression that will explain your attachment to these glorious structures.

Oh my goodness, I am so happy to have found another Julie Montagu video since I stumbled across one a day ago. What an utter delight these two ladies are and how brave of the Colthursts to re-acquire and restore Pitchford Hall. I'm afraid I would have simply stood there and gaped at the fallen ceilings wondering what the heck I should do about it. The room Rowena Colthurst painted bright red at age 13 made me laugh. I can completely picture a 13-year-old girl determined to make the room her own and different from everything and everybody else's space. I was rather sad to see that not much seemed to have been done to the house in the interim ownership and wondered why that was. What an idyllic place to live. Congratulations to the Colthurst family and all good wishes to you as you restore your diamond in the rough.

What a thrilling place to grow up!!! Those dark wood floors in the first living room stole my heart!! The children will grow into very cultured adults with rich imaginations because of this place - the stories before, and then the reality of living there. I love the Viscountess' enthusiasm, too - it's contagious! Of important note, however, is that - and forgive me if I'm wrong - wooden floor boards do not flap in the wind!!! Is that a ghost captured by the cameraman at 17:25 ???

There are simply things in life you can’t possibly believe the heart can bear. Complete total admiration for these people. I know their heritage is long gone under the hammer, but their dirt, their land their history they won back! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 I have not seen anything that touched my heart like this. As a Texan who lives not far from Houston, I'm very proud that Texas has a little part to play in that the painting was purchased by a fellow Texan so that it might hang in the house once more. These presentations are very interesting indeed. One minor detail regarding the audio component: in between videotaped sections, there are quite a few 'background' narrations, and we are strikingly reminded that these snippets have been recorded separately because we can hear a bit of echo in the recording venue; moreover, the microphone must be of a different type, because Julie's voice almost sounds like that of a different person. If the echo could be suppressed acoustically during those narrations, and if the voice tone characteristics were more similar to what we hear during the video parts, the entire production would seem to flow seamlessly; this would enhance the quality of your productions, which are already excellent.

Wow, that was so good. Btw, how did your pants stay white 😮😝. They are the sweetest family and I am so happy for them that they were able to acquire the home back. Never give up, right? And thank you Mr.Texan, for your kind and generous donation 😍

This place is fantastic! I hope it works out for them to have guests come & stay to help fund the restorations & upkeep. It's so sad but the taxes & cost of upkeep it what causes these places to be abandoned, it's jam packed with history. Wouldn't it be something if this program were seen & people would gift back some of their ancestors paintings & belongings? It's the paintings I would most treasure since they were the photographs of their day. Thanks for such a fun visit, you sure are one to enjoy every moment like the hidden plunge pool!

What a remarkable story. And what a special place. There is definitely some serious sacred psychogeograhy going on there.

I didn't really understand exactly how her ancestral home got suddenly sold out from under them, including it's contents? It is so sad, but I am very happy that she and her husband persevered and were able to get it back into the family.

Loved loved loved this house. Loved the idea of the library but wished it was a bit more in keeping aesthetically with the building. Shame they didn’t have traditional coracles. Those were obviously modern replicas, despite what they said.
