Thanks for this one. My grandfather and grandmother moved there in 1957-8. Griffin GA - Chattanooga TN - GA - Hixson / Chattanooga TN - Chicago IL- Ashmon ST - Gbatala Gbatala was actually one part of the Sahara trade route. Middle Ages old 1100 - 1500. Yes, it is centrally located. Thanks again.

Flemister hill was founded by James W. and Freda H. Flemister (his wife). They immigrated to Liberia in 1951 from GA., USA Their son, Ijoma Robert Flemister (deceased in 2021) was first elected to the House of Representatives at age 23. Ijoma is the youngest ever elected Legislator in the history of the Republic of Liberia. Ijoma was elected to represent District #1, Montserrado in the House of Representatives, 48th and 49th Legislatures of Liberia. They also owned vast lands in Marshall.

I was disappointed that the series only discussed the founding of the town and then skipped to Charles Taylor’s NPFL Civil War era. But there was so much more history involving this town. Tubman allowed Ben-Amii’s Black American Jewish Cult to settle there in 1968-69, before they emigrated to Israel. There was even a Military Camp and Prison there before the arrival of Taylor. Hopefully the host will return for a part2. Inquisitive minds want to know more about this interesting town.

Mr. Kolo contradicted himself. Initially, he said he was born and raised there. Later, he said he went there at 17 years from Bomi.

The town is just like a maze. It is like people are living on top of each other with no elbow room. How from the people who Owen cars get to their homes?
