Your opening shot is looking at B division you are at the north end of the kitchen, built in the late 70's as you pan right you can see the roof of B annexe which held the girls after they burnt Fairlea, you also can see E division, hard right is the wall,6 post, which separated, A, H, J divisions and the new chapel, we burnt the old one. The other side of the wall you see A division muster yard, 2.32 is 6 post gates, screws use to sit in an atco hut checking movent slips, looking up you can see the E division yard wall, bricks on the right, the building directly in front is Bdivision, that particular window is the B div. Seniors office.2.59 the A division garden shed, 3.26 the path that led to the slot, H division to you, I might add probably the longest walk ever coz you knew what was coming! 3.28 chapel door, 3.57 welcome to H.division, let the games begin. 4.14 just to your left out of shot is where you got " welcomed" to hell by 5 or 6 screws, 4.25 you would be breathing harder than that if you were in reception uin H div. No matter who you were, they didn't care, we all got flogged on arrival. 4.50 you are looking at J division, in the 70's it was for young offenders, yoggies to us. 4.59 A division entrance,6.29 Jdivision enterance,6.40 old dungeons under A division, not in use in my day, 7.02, A division chook pen, they kept A division non workers from 8.30am til 3.30pm, use to be to tin sheds x2 to keep out of the weather, one was a gym, a few weights etc. not as you would know a gym still better than nothing. 8.48 screws view of the labour yards in the slot, screw would walk up and down making sure we were in our cages still! 9.36 the industry yard where Read stabbed Keith Faure, better known to you all as Keithy George, too bad he missed!10.06 shower yards in H division, 3 minutes cold showers depending which screw was in the tower, they controled the water from up there, 10.38 number 2 industry yard. 11.30 inside 2industry yard, this is where there was another well documented murder, not Read, in case you are wondering. 12.16 as you entered a yard you were ordered to step onto the cross about turn by the right salute the tower and break off when told to do so, 12.22 wtf??? Wasn't there when I was, probably says,"all screws suck ....s", if it doesn't it should!12.49 the belly of the beast.13.02 we had to quick march to whatever yard you were in, there was no saying no!

Great vid, very Interesting to see the view into the labour yards from above. I think Its a disgrace what they are doing to the joint, it would make for an awesome historical site, instead of building those hideous modern buildings all around it, leave it how it was. As for that strange writing, well It wasn't there in 1990.

Ha ha, great video mate. There is not much on the net like this about pentridge. Good work. @art, I was in Camphill in 2005 and the place is very old. It was a prettt rough place when I was there, but nothing like Pentridge. There was a few stabbings here and there, but thats about it. My stay was short in the C cat, just a little over 2 years. To get there, our sweat box van had to board a ferry which took about 45 minutes, I remember thinking if the ferry sinks we are fu*ked.

Does anyone know anywhere you can see old photos? I was just informed there was a story on it the other day on tv and my dad was in a picture. But can’t see to find any old pictures. Does anyone know where I could look to find some? Would be much appreciated, my dad was in H division and he recently passed away.

I've been inside twice when it's been open to the public. Most of the buildings were open but there were no guided tours, you had to find your own way 'round. I saw really old communal shower facilities, a rock breaking room, a supposed new Jika Jika building which was awful and looked old and very neglected and the first old original cells that were built. Both visits were only 'one off' days and I can't remember how I found out about them.

absolute disgrace how this was allowed to be dismantled etc, i went to san fran and Alcatraz tour and i can tell you they have tourist paying big money to see and by stuff about it and its no where near as good as what pentridge was regarding stories and visuals, it could have been made into a major tourist attraction for melbourne....i know there are many that were glad to see it gone but....i think this was because of the FW jeff kennet wasnt it
@johnnyfairmont8 жыл бұрын
+ruth field (ruthie1) we cant change what has happened now. we only have what we have. which is why i feel it is important to collect/record and display as many stories/photos and pieces of Pentridge as we can. TRUE stories will be the hardest to find as i think any of the 'visitors' would be reluctant to say much.

9:25 - You can see just how much has been lost. One handle for each door. Only the first three doors from either side remain today. 10:26 - The three cells on North side that remain. Sink.. blank.. sink. Now you can see where the walls have been rebuilt and compare the drastic "modifications" to the catwalk.

Just one more question.. lol. 7:28 - 7:35 - is this looking through the bars at the top of the door at 6:30? Looking inside, I can see arched doorways. These are not common in Pentridge and would be from an older built section??

Sad to see such great Victorian history neglected & virtually forgotten?. Culture is built off the back of your history, it's reckless to abuse it by neglecting it & letting it rot into oblivion?. This should be a well polished museum of Victorian history ?. But it will only make way for high rise city apartments, the history buried & lost in the foundations of the modern new age world?.

@willpugh-calotte21999 жыл бұрын
+ruth field (ruthie1) The Pentridge complex was decommissioned in two stages. As each part of the complex was decommissioned, they were opened up for a few weeks for the public to walk around in freely. I visited both parts of the complex as they were opened to the public, and took many photographs. I don't recall any restrictions on photography during those open-to-the-public periods. H Division was one wing of an "X" configuration building, the other three wings being A Division. One of my photos shows a sign, created for the visiting public, clearly marking the entry to H Division. There was no limitation on walking around in H Division. As I recall, the cells there weren't different from A Division cells, but, if my memory serves me correctly, at the end of the H Division wing there was a row of small walled yards which I guess were used for hard-labour purposes. There was no limitation on walking around there, either.

+Will Pugh-Calotte would love to see the photos. im in the midst of building a 3d model of the prison as it originally was. Resourses are very limited so im trying to collect what i can in the way of photos and video, so that i can accurately reconstruct what has been lost.

Because it was so brutal, if the R.S.P.C.A. Kept animals in the same conditions the public wouldn't put up with it. They treated us worse than animals at the zoo, the yards were concrete and brick with wire across the top, the only thing you saw in the labour yards was sky, we were in the yards rain hail or shine, we got nothing,except brutalised.Evreryone knew what went on and said nothing, Social workers, priests of every faith, politicians all stood by and allowed it. I'm not sooking, you asked why, that's why, maybe some of us deserved what we got, remember this, if you treat people like animals eventually they become animals, I did!!!

Of all the beautiful and grand buildings in Melbourne from this era which have been torn down in the name of progress Pentridge is one that should have fallen to the wreckers hammer. The human misery and suffering and state sponsored murder that took place there right up to its closure should be removed, at least, from sight. That people choose to live there today surround by such evil karma is beyond me,.
