Nice review. I have this jacket. Great jacket but 2 things that need pointed out. In torrential rain, the front full zipper does not have a front storm flap. It's on the inside. Water does get through eventually. Second and this is my biggest gripe. The jacket wets which means in rain, for the moisture to vent out, a wet outer membrane wicks the moisture from you but leaves you feeling cold. It's a bit weird and takes some getting used too. Water doesn't get in, but it just makes you feel cold when stopping on a cold hike. Apart from that, it's a good shell.

I. own this jacket and its my every day jacket for spring and autumn. It s so light weight and roomy i can wear a t-shirt or a wool shirt underneeth depending on the temp or how long i will be outside. Its not the jacket i would wear in a downpoor but for light rain its very good. The moisture will fill the material and it will get heavy if its a constant downpoor. The water need to evaporate outnof the garment but it does that rather quickly. Just remember to keep the jacket clean. I do a light washing of it twice a year. Ive owned it now for 1.5 years and it looks like new after like 200 days of use. Its also the softest jacked ive ever worn and for sitting in the car its so nice that you can sip up the front froom the bottom a bit so the jacket sits flat on you. Also keeps keys together or separated in the pockets eith the extra inside pocket so you easily find them.

Great vid - i have been wanting to know a bit more about Fjallravens "waterproof" credentials and this jacket looks impressive. I would love you to do a comparison between, for example, a Mountain Equipment Lhotse and and an equivalent Fjallraven??

@@trekitt Add the Rab Kangri to the list, please. I'm looking for a waterproof suitable to go over a Carinthia MIg 4.0 and Carinthias PRG jacket is not exactly everywhere to examine or try on. I've almost given up on Arc'teryx LEAF as in the UK I've no idea when any product will enter the country, and the distributor in the UK doesn't even give customers an idea when gear will arrive! It's a bit strange how some of these manufacturers expect their user base to wait maybe 6 months before their product arrives, then they want to charge us like a wounded bull after waiting 6-9 months! So any reviews of quiet shell garments suitable for going over a jacket like the Carinthia MIG would be useful on the channel!

great review. i've got the same jacket but in anorak form. i love the fit of it and the overall look of the jacket. the textile i feel i can wear it in both casual setting as well as a good hike or trek without the crinkle of a classic gore-tex shell. plus the environmental side of it is always a plus

I assume that they recorded the video some/several weeks back, since its technically winter now. And i know that they had some snow and below zero celcius temperatures over there. Here in Denmark, on the other side of the North Sea from the UK, we had -18c and 16cm of snow, then a warm front hit us, coming in from the Atlantic, and gave us +8c temperatures with literally all the snow gone in just under a week.

The leather logo stitched on to the arm, wont the stitch holes let in water? Feels a bit unnecessary part of the jacket personally

The stitching behind the leather patch has been seam taped, just like the rest of the jacket to maintain the waterproofing.

Isn’t this a rain jacket?? Why are you not showing how it works in the rain?
@trekitt7 ай бұрын
It is a waterproof jacket, but whilst the jacket is waterproof, our camera setup at the time was not. This is something we're looking to address in the future to allow for more weather focused content on waterproof clothing. This was also a video giving an overview of the features of the product, showing the fit and features is not something that requires getting the jacket wet, it being a waterproof should be fairly self explanatory.
@davidcook5858 Жыл бұрын
This jacket leaks like a sieve after about three rain storms (got mine 2020/21 and it failed in the field 2023). Not a lot of wear and I had not ever washed the jacket in a machine. So disappointed about this. Fjallraven expects you to be in the 'water-proofing' business. You have to buy their spray and re-proof the jacket. I paid big bucks for this jacket to avoid trouble with rain conditions only to find that Fjallraven expects me to do the work. If I'd been on a longer, colder trek I would have been in serious trouble because of this jacket. It went from Hero to Zero without any warning -- one day great and next day worthless.
@smudger9ontheline Жыл бұрын
Did water actually start permeating the membrane or leaking through zips e.t.c? Did you try reproofing it after this and did it restore its waterproofness? I was seriously considering one of these jackets for mountain use so any info is much appreciated. Cheers.

I’d buy it if it had side pockets.

The venting zips act as a passthrough so you can access your midlayer pockets, but your personal preference for actual side pockets is also a valid stance.
