Great Video, nice to get to know you better. Looks like you have also been an avid renter. So you definitely understand that market also. Glad your daughter got her car back. Big city crime I suppose? We know nothing about that after living in a country town of 950 people for 18 years and now a town of 2,500 for 9 years. Sad that there are so many rotten people!! Have a great week!

Fascinating how many moves y’all have made. For us, we have been in our current home 16 years. We will probably move again but it will be out of town and probably out of state. No point in an in town move. Grew up in Elgin, IL and live 3 hours west in Iowa. Would love to live somewhere else in retirement. Love your videos and advice! Thanks for your work.

10:10 Agreed. Prop 13 is a very misunderstood concept hated by everyone except those who don't do math; it caps prop taxes to what is approximately monetary inflation, not property value inflation. A 90 yo lady we knew, used to pay $1,200 a year tax, while others paid 4k. In the end, she'd stayed in her home a long time, and it was good for her. She sold for personal reasons, regretted losing her stuff and space, eventually getting really sick and dying in a trailer home. So, maybe let the elderly pay less in tax, since they really aren't using most main services anyway.

In our state of WA my elderly mom only pays a small percentage of her property tax due to her lower income. If that were not the case, she would have to sell her home and that is just beyond sad. Not sure if other states offer that same savings. They really should help these elderly seniors stay in their home.

Loved this Vlog, I have never been to Chicago so it was interesting to see the types of homes there. I live in San Diego where the homes are very different. Sorry about your daughter’s car, horrible to deal with.

Glad you enjoyed it! She did get it back with minimal damage.

Yes, refinishing floors while living in your house is nearly impossible. I hope to buy, move, then repair/refinish the hardwood floors

As someone who lives in Silicon Valley, seeing that water left running was shocking. We let our lawns die to conserve water, but at least we don't have to worry about our pipes freezing LOL. Also those homes seemed really inexpensive. Interesting how it's all a matter of perspective.

So one of the few things that Chicago has going for it is its water. It comes from Lake Michigan and is good right out of the faucet. I miss that being in Florida.

I'm originally from Oklahoma and we could have some really freezing temperatures. We had to leave that little trickle of water to keep the pipes from freezing. You never wanted to deal with frozen/ruptured pipes. I haven't lived there for 35+ years but I'm sure they still do that.

My car was stolen 20 years ago in broad daylight. My neighbors found it later and I was able to sell it( I already bought a new one).

An off question but I have a small bathroom with 5000K led lighting What paint color would complement this light?
@KatiSpaniak5 күн бұрын
It’s hard to say. That’s pretty bright. I would go with a light neutral as that’s going to swing the color. You can also buy some peel and stick paint samples. I have a link below.

That house is beautiful, but for a certain type of buyer. Seems almost historical. The thing in the basement looks like an art installation to me! Maybe one of their kids’ projects?

Speaking to the fact of not getting in to a home using a lock box, that happened to me as a pilates reformer teacher trying to get into a lock box in freezing weather, in order to teach a group class in a home studio. Four people arrived for the class at 7AM. Four people plus me couldn't get in. I finally got ahold of the owner who told me what the code was. Turns out she typed it up like this... #1234 The reality was the code was 1234, not #1234. Significant distinction. The 7AM class was not held because the owner's phone was turned off. Thankfully, she called before the next class. Regarding mold in the shower... ugh, I have some in my shower. I need to hire a person to regrout and recaulk What I really need is to spend $$$ to update the primary bathroom. Spending that money in semi retirement doesn't seem like a great expenditure of our funds.
