A brief tour of Meyer Sound’s new flagship PANTHER line arrays. Shipping in February, 2022, Panther combines two long-excursion 12” woofers and 3” compression drivers with four channels of onboard Class-D powering fed from a dual (analog/Milan AVB network) input module. Designed for large-scale touring and installs, three models offer different horizontal dispersion: the 95° PANTHER-M; 110° PANTHER-W; and 80° long-throw PANTHER-L. Just been to an Ed Sheeran gig in UK. Probably about 300 of them across 12 arrays. They had another 60 subs (not sure which) in LR rigged in 10s between pairs of 16 Panthers. Sound was excellent in minimal acoustic type tracks, with huge LF pressure. Turned to mush though when they were driven hard with "fuller" tracks. Roof was open in the stadium and was quite windy so that doesn't help. For the size of stadium though (Principality, Wales) the overall levels were very impressive, probably the loudest LR I've heard. Just washed out when pushed hard and vocals were lost

@@DW_drums Probably a bit harsh to say "mush" but the vocals / mid were lost at times. The LF never distorted tho and was pretty crazy. I honestly think the wind swirling through the stadium had a lot to do with it -its got an 80K capacity so its a very big space, the roof was open and the wind was quite strong. Overall though the system and SPL it produces was pretty incredible - to the point I had to look up what they were then comment here once Id found them!

Maybe they will use these in the next Dead and Company tour. Meyer Sound has been with The Dead since like the eighty's I think and their shows have always sounded amazing pretty much any where they have played. In the pavilion at Saratoga it sounded like a really nice hifi stereo which I think is amazing to get that type of quality out of a large format pa system.

It's a real shame that so many large scale "concerts" consist of so much pre-recorded sounds and very little real live performance in this day and age. The amount of tracks being played during a so called "live" performance is upsetting. It's like breeding perfect Wagyu cattle, perfectly butchering the steaks, only to cook it well done and eat it with ketchup.

Class D amplifiers may be more efficient but its topology can compromise its fidelity in certain cases, where as Class A-B and certain class H amplifiers are by far the best sounding types in the world.

Modern class d amps are way better than what they used to be. Sound quality has improved a lot and these days u won't be able to hear the difference between class ab and class d but the difference in power and efficiency is huge , i recently installed a sony gs80 car stereo in my car and the power of every channel output is doubled. From 15-18w rms at 1% thd to 50w rms at 1% thd.. the headunit alone makes enough bass to eliminate a subwoofer and i did not install a sub cus i need the trunk space.

I don’t think the big box line array systems ever reveal the price as they are so specialized and get purchased on an individual venue/tour basis based on their specific needs. A full system of these is likely going to be up in 7 figures though or close to it

Exactly! This is a very long-winded infomercial that seems very impressive and polished where they constantly use very subjective terms such as 'class leading' and 'rival beating' and all that rubbish but they never give any objectivity in the form of actual, real information about the product to back those very loose and ambiguous statements up. Wave ranges/shapes, constructive/destructive interference pattern reduction solutions, power, impedence, dsp processing capabilities... they don't tell us about any of these! Which leads me to believe the same conclusion as you came to.......they're probably not very good!

Truss bending PK sound.....even Meyer now realise heavy boxes are falling out of favour. I can't see the benefits of robotic angling unless your field of coverage changes mid concert. It's also struggling to gain traction outside a few EDM gigs.
