Sadly, trite, invidious comments read below for the most. Ryman is by one of the most intelligent contributors to modern painting for me and it was an honour to do projects with him in the '90's. Garner Tullis, Pietrarubbia, Italy / Wikipedia

What the hell has he ever done? white, blank paintings? His masterpiece was that polar bear in a snowstorm.

This is one if the funniest interviews, the woman seems genuinely annoyed with Ryman.

“Learrnt?” You might want to try remedial English when you have some free time. The word is learned.

I really like his work and some of the things he's said (in other situations) but this was rough. The interviewer seems to be frustrated with how little she gets out of Ryman, and Ryman seems like he genuinely cannot talk intellectually/academically about (his) work (as opposed to being intentionally cryptic), which I actually love, but was probably expected of artists at that time, especially Minimalists because of their manifesto-type writings. I don't want to consider him Minimalist, though, in the same way that I consider Agnes Martin an Ab-Ex painter (she also says she's Ab-Ex).

Why did Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel try to make Ryman uncomfortable?
