Hey Tony, I just wanted to share a message of gratitude. In a comment I shared months ago, I mentioned that my family and I were srt to visit NYC in June, We , I especially (being visually disabled), have had a lot of anxiety over visiting cities in general but NYC was bringing us a LOT of anxiety. Yet, after watching many of your videos, we felt much closer. We only had a day to visit, which, as you know, is not nearly enough, and spent most of our time at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Once we made it back to Lower Manhattan, we explored as much as we could with the time we had. Long story short, we had an amazing time and a HUGE part of it was thanks to your videos. No words can truly capture my gratitude. We went from dreading NYC, to being excited to loving it and now we can't wait to go back. You are a gift to NY my friend. Thank you and much love to you

There are so many amazing old structures in NYC, but for some reason it blows my frickin mind that a wrought iron fence has been there since before 1776.

You’re kidding right? Tom suffers from Anthropophobia. He may not be vocal about it because he thinks he’s hiding it but I see the signs so him being a professor would make him very uncomfortable. Why do you think he left his big time profession? He will give you some BS excuse but that’s not it.

I often wonder if the Dutch considered "Mannahatta" at that stage being a passing, temporarily thing too and didn't take the "buying" of it very serious. It was just a trading colony after all, that were founded and abandoned all over the world all of the time. Besides the beaver pelts there was not much of trade interest and not many colonists would live there. The Dutch West India company wasn't very interested and involved either. The deeper insight of the possibilities of the place came later (with people like Adriaan van der Donck).

Interesting tour and laid back. I didn't know slavery was so popular and wide spread in NYC. There must have been a labor shortage back then. What kind of jobs did slaves do in New York? I associate slavery with tobacco. cotton and other agrarian industries. Was there also slavery in other northeastern cities.

Lmao, the irony of "wasting" one’s time in New York! 😝 Whether you’re a visitor or living there, is there such a thing? Even lying in bed each morning, I’d be already planning or thinking ahead about every detail of my day, no matter how mundane or not. And not on a neurotic or OCD way, just… planning 😉 If anything, my year spent there was one of the rare times in my life when my family (and friends) likely thought I was GOOD and focused. Other than… you know, trying to go to community college online, at a school in my home town in San Diego, California. Having the textbooks sent to me in NYC. Ya know, besides that little failure. 😂
