This is an amazing renovation. It applies Japan’s traditional Style with a modest modern transition. I can see the bathroom and kitchen being affected by this. For the kitchen, clean stainless steel and an induction(?) stove top to replace the older one. Modernization, but doesn’t obnoxiously eat away at the rest of the house. The Bathroom respects both as well. It removes the older (possibly asbestos tiles) with more zen like granite (I know it’s not real lol). But it balances the need for functionality but adds more zen-like appeal to the bathroom. The bath tap to represent a waterfall was the cherry on top. The living room. My god it’s just beautiful in itself. I swear I saw the tea set and thought a designer built it for the living room (it hikes the price). But you got it at a thrift store?? Absolutely baffling, as if it was meant to be. All in all, your house is in awe. Stunning at every corner. Again, baffled by the fact you will air B&B this beauty or rent it out idk. To be honest, I’d live here.

Hey Sharla, looks amazing. One trick for the dirty grout between the tiles. Believe it or not, plain white vinegar undiluted sprayed on the grout and let sit for 15-20 minutes will get that grime right out. Seriously, Clorox won’t work but vinegar will. I didn’t believe it until I tried it and it was epic. Just don’t mix the vinegar with the Clorox as I believe the fumes can be dangerous.

Hey Sharla. May i suggest you try doing a hydrochloric acid wash on the tiles. Use gloves but try not to get any on the gloves anyway and apply the acid with a hard bristle brush. Scrub them a bit with the brush then leave it sitting for 15 minutes the wash off with water carefully. Do not get any of the acid on anything else. Hydrochloric acid is sometimes used in the masonry industry to clean cement/mortar and other stuff off of clay bricks and tools like metal levels etc. I would imagine it would work with tiles as well. Try a small test patch first to be safe. Not sure if Hydrochloric Acid is available in Japan but it usually found in hardware stores elsewhere.

I've found that a mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide mixed to a thin paste consistency is very good at cleaning grout. Apply with a squeeze bottle and leave for a bit before scrubbing. By the time you're done scrubbing, the hydrogen peroxide has evaporated and you just have to brush up the baking soda. All environmentally friendly.
