Great duck set up! I have a few ducks myself along with a couple geese. Oh and only 52 chickens running around as well! 😂 Chickens were my first addition to our property, they got a really nice coop/run/tractor, but I let them free range from 10am till they decide to go to the coop for the night. Ducks & geese I have old truck canopies set up as their shelter, they too free range all day. Unfortunately they don’t go to their coop beds on their own as I’m sure you know too!😂 They’re not too bad usually though, I just have to show them the way to their homes for the night. They got food and water inside also. There’s no floor, so I put hay on the ground for them. I can easily move the canopy duck/geese homes to a new spot every couple days since they like making a mess! They got a in ground pond and a kiddie swimming pool to play in and I have an old cast iron bath tub I’m going to put in the ground for them to use to. Just bought an arched metal pole structure that has a heavy chicken wire that runs over it. I plan on adding hardware cloth on the bottom up 4 ft high on all sides for better protection from predators. I‘l be adding those solar lights too! Also some cameras another great idea. I got electric power in the chicken coop as well as solar power and a chicken heater that’s just warm enough to keep water from freezing on really cold nights! Think I’ll go with solar and battery back up in the duck/geese structure? Eventually I will have to separate the ducks and geese into separate homes since the geese can be a little mean to the ducks at times. Luckily I have 5 acres to work with. I’m hoping to dig a fairly large pond for the ducks and geese to use and possibly sleep on if they choose to? I have a large dog kennel that the ducks have taken over sleeping in at night. So I added hay on the concrete floor for them to make nest in and keep warm. There’s a roof on the kennel so they stay out of the rain . But I added a bucket of water for the ducks. Dog kennel temporary till I get them a better structure built. Almost got the geese structure done now. My first time ever having these kind of animals. I’m learning as I go! 😂 done better than my neighbors though, our last summer had some extremely hot days and they lost most of their chickens to the heat. All my chickens and other animals all had ice water, pools, and misters to help keep them cool. I have quite a few trees that a cooler area the chickens hang out at too. Fortunately all my animals survived the 107 degree weather, although some of my security lights got cooked in the heat and stopped working properly. Got to replace them! Animals are spoiled with the security lights, the chickens often stay out till midnight if not longer grabbing worms and bugs that come out at night. Apparently I got enough lights that the chickens feel safe being out after dark! But they stay close to the coop run in case they see any predators in the area. Fortunately the predators don’t come on my property very often. I think all the lights help keep the predators away?

Thanks for sharing! Seems like you have a lot to do with all those chickens, ducks, and geese! I wish I had a larger property, hopefully one day I will have a few acres as well. I think that lights are definitely helpful to deter predators. We also learn as we go. We are currently planning a new house for the ducks, so stay tuned for updates :)

That works very well for us. With the smaller water troughs, they still have enough water to splash around. And they get regular yard time to access their big pool ☺️💦

Love the setup. I am setting up a putdoor run right now and love all the ideas. 2 questions: is the artificial turf hard to clean poop off? Is the coop hard to get eggs out of?

I love everything about this design! Economical and functional. I'm doing this if I get ducks this year. Working on a greenhouse and it is not cheap or easy. I love the cameras too! Those ducks are well loved.

I absolutely love this. You did an awesome job.how has the artificial grass held up? Did you put it directly on the ground? I definitely want to make this for my ducks and chickens ❤ I also love the hinged top for easy clean out.

Thanks! We added gravel underneath the turf. We have had it for one and a half years now, and it still works well. A few patches, though we're the ducks, ripped it apart 😆 We made one video specifically about the artificial turf. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6azlHp-qtR1oJIsi=2viQn1AJoYGScwm9

This setup looks fantastic!!! How do you keep the turf clean? We had deep litter on the ground but the ducks would turn it to mud faster than we could put new hay down. Also what's your strategy for keeping their water clean? We dump and refill every day but it still gets 4-5 inches/10-13 cm of muck at the bottom

I am happy to hear that you like it. We hose the turf down daily to keep it clean. This works pretty well. There is another video from the installation. The water bowls and tubs get refilled twice daily. With the turf, they don't get that dirty. But they poop a lot inside 🙄
