@@iamcat1797 in the first movie, it was jot trying to keep Riley upbeat and happy all the time, and having a distinct dislike for sadness but realizing she's integral too. This seems more like a chaotic hostile takeover by anxiety (which can be in the clinical, medicated case rather than just puberty). It's not really sharing emotions, it's anxiety literally taking over everything because, well, it's anxiety and it needs to feel that control in an increasingly (seemingly) uncontrollable world. And to them, simple emotions cant/won't protect Riley, because they are...simple

You can see that Anxiety is the villain not because she is bad, but because she somehow wanted the best for Riley and did what she did with her main emotions. Perhaps just as Joy realized that she needed to give space to all the emotions in the first film, Anxiety learns something similar in this one, that there are no more sophisticated emotions and that without the main ones, she and the other 3 are completely useless.

Emotions are the vibrant hues painting the canvas of human experience. From the euphoric highs of joy to the profound depths of sorrow, they shape our perceptions and actions. Love envelops us in warmth, while anger ignites like wildfire. Fear tightens its grip, while hope whispers promises of better days. Sadness washes over like a heavy rain, cleansing the soul of pain. Emotions connect us, binding hearts in empathy or tearing them apart in conflict. They dance within us, orchestrating the symphony of our existence, reminding us that to feel deeply is to be undeniably alive, navigating the labyrinth of the human condition.

I think it's really heartwarming that Joy has fully accepted Sadness for who she is, and how important she is for Riley. And I like already how Fear and Anxiety are fearful/worried about two completely different things: Fear is worried for more concrete concerns in the present, anxiety is worried about more abstract concerns that could or could not be in the future. Fear is worried about the possibility that Riley could get hit in the mouth with a hockey puck (which is rational and easily fixed), Anxiety is worried that if Riley does not make a good first impression on the cool kids that in the future she will not be popular/have friends (which is irrational but feels oh so important now that she has to or else she will be thinking about it for the next year).

For those of you who want to nitpick this movie, I am genuinely glad that this movie doesn’t resonate with you in the way it does to me. The particulars with which we struggle with our emotions, so unique to each of us - and I for one struggle with anxiety all the time - I feel that this is the best representation of emotion I’ve ever seen. so I would love to see you guys make a script that apparently does this better, but I have yet to see anything of substance that makes me feel so seen in a world that is ready to judge and criticize anyone that doesn’t measure up.

I think one of the coolest part about this film being released almost 10 years after the first film, is that the children that grew up seeing this movie are likely going through what Riley is in this film. Puberty. Several therapists have attested to how Inside Out helped young children understand and process their emotions, and now those children are growing up and developing feelings they have even less understanding of. My parents kind of glossed over having any of these discussions and didn't address them until they became problematic, so I hope adults and even therapists see this movie to help their young pre-teens/teens navigate the misery of puberty.

This is the perfect representation of a teen going through puberty. the fact that their emotions are all over the place (literally) as well as their emotions being bottled up, causing them to feel more anxiety, and depression, rather than their usual self. puberty sucks, and it's fun seeing it turned into a physical representation. Edit: for people who are saying "thanks for stating the obvious" i KNOW i am stating the obvious, i am just pointing out my respect for it. calm down.

I had a crippling anxiety attack, seemingly "out of the blue", and it... kinda changed my brain permanently. I had to beg, but, my mother got me counseling, (only good therapist I've ever had personally, which is sad.) Having a movie such as this around would have been immensely helpful for me. Enjoy these years! ❤️ No other time of your life is as crucial to the adult you will become, and you have so very much to look forward to. With love from an older, wiser, internet stranger. 😉❤

I don’t think it’s why they’re not in the first movie (I think they thought of them after the first movie & that’s why), but previous repliers totally missed your point. I believe OP’s theory is that these emotions get so strong during your developmental years that they split off into their own embodiments of emotions, like how anxiety would possibly normally be created by fear & sadnesses, but because the feeling of anxiety is so strong, it becomes its own emotion character. Then, unless the adult feels this emotion really strong on the regular, the emotion disappears. It’s probably not the intended plot but I think the theory makes some sense. Hope this was understandable. 👍🫶

I'm in my 40s and not a fan of Disney in general - but I have to say that, having watched this one, I was kind of blown away by how unexpectedly relatable the depiction of anxiety was. In some parts it hit so close to home that I had to pause the movie and kind of get the emotion out of my system. It's rare that a Disney movie affects me like this, well done. That said, it's just not true that children don't feel more nuanced emotions such as anxiety, envy, embarrassment, etc, these are not emotions that "only kick in at puberty."

Bro 10 years ago I watched this movie with my family members in the cinema as a 10 year old boy, now I’m a 20 years old man and some of the family members I watched this with have either passed away or started families of their own. This nostalgia is really putting my life into perspective and I just want to tell people reading this comment to enjoy every moment of your life, because you don’t know what would happen next.

What I appreciate about the first movie, they could have made Fear a total chicken-wuss (brilliant vocab, I know), but he knows he has a job to do. That part where Riley starts to run away for the bus near the end, and he stops her like "are we sure we want to do this?". That, I liked. Shows Fear has a brain. I guess there's fear (one's own safety, somebody's safety, etc), and there's cowardice.
