I agree to a extent, most people's substance abuse stems from mental health and trauma. They have to go to the root of the issue, usually involving meds, and therapy. Usually if they don't get the therapy, and meds they'll relapse. Another thing is they have to be tired of being addicted. When you get tired of being at rock bottom you'll claw your way backup.

Ex fentanyl user here. I took the blue 30s for 3 years and got tired of getting sick and continuing to take them. All I did was take a half instead of a whole one everytime I needed them and eventually switched to the pink 10s and took one of those everytime I started to feel sick. Then I got to the point where I was splitting the 10s in half and got all the way down to a half a 10 a day and just quit all together and never had any withdrawals or anything. I’m around them all the time to this day and still don’t mess with them. It’s definitely possible to get off them without feeling sick or getting addicted to another drug like methadone or suboxene. People just doing it all wrong or don’t actually wanna do it. You can’t get off a drug by using another drug.
@austinreese555320 сағат бұрын
You absolutely can get off a drug by using another drug. I was addicted to research chemical benzos for 6 years and we used a multi-year long lyrica substitution along with adrenaline blockers and now Im even 6ish months off of Lyrica and just use Vyvanse for ADHD.
@austinreese555320 сағат бұрын
I have multiple years sober from the exact method youre arguing doesn’t work. Also if you go to detox, they always use a substitution to make it easier. Methadone or Suboxone for opiates, phenobarbital for benzodiazepines, Valium for alcohol etc. Substitution is the literal medical technique that is almost always used.
@lamaarporter30019 сағат бұрын

@zhuyu926819 сағат бұрын
No disrespect but you don't know what you're talking about. Just because it worked for you doesn't mean it'll work for other people. And it sounds like you were physically dependent but probably not psychologically addicted. Methadone and suboxone are used exactly the way you described, by slowly cutting the dose, and suboxone often by rapidly cutting the dose over a week or so.

I mean, how are they going to get by when there's simply no one left to steal from? Obviously totally unfair to the regular citizens and business owners that have always called an area their home. But you see my point? And I'm certainly not saying I want to see that happen or it get to that point. It's just an honest question because I legitimately don't know. Also not everyone boosts (shoplifts), some people prositute, some sell drugs, some work normal jobs, some panhandle (beg).. the one guy was selling firewood for the fires burn on the corners to stay warm.. theres many ways people make money for their fix. There's something else going on with people who get prescribed painkillers, and then go on to be addicted so severely that they end up escalating, and out on the streets. As someone who has been on fentanyl and percocet for years (well, fentanyl didn't work out--I hypermetabolize it, and so I start ODing within an hour of having the patch on, but I had to try it multiple times to confirm that was the case), I'm still consistently on the same amount and able to reduce on good days. But my clinic also mandates that we get psychological evals every couple of years. I think that might be the missing component here. They're being patched at a high level for an issue that might be temporary (such as surgery) (I have a chronic issue, unfortunately), and outstanding mental issues that no one looks out for. I feel bad for them, but there's more to it than 'I got prescribed pills and magically got so addicted that I destroyed my life and am now zombieing around Philly'.

What the hell does he mean that suboxone is not working? When you ongoing a suboxone therapy, you don't feel withdrawal symptoms and you are completely sober. That's exactly how it should work.
@Steve-ev6vx4 сағат бұрын
You aren't sober on Suboxone 😂, it gets you high. They can't take it until the fent is out of their system though or it makes them really sick. If he is on subs and still withdrawing, he was dependent on other, non opioid, drugs.
@slaingirlfound4 сағат бұрын
@@Steve-ev6vx Subs may get you high at first. And yes you have to be in withdrawal before taking it. Once it reaches its ceiling effect you no longer get high no matter how many you take. The crazy thing about it is you can break the Sub barrier by using a very high dose of shorter acting opiates or a super strong opiate like street fentanyl. But if you take a Sub on top of Methadone and you’re not in withdrawal it will throw you into a rapid withdrawal like something you’ve never felt. Look everybody is different. Some need medicated assisted therapy. Others don’t. To each their own.
@1LEETLANDСағат бұрын
@Steve-ev6vx the suboxone pill kicks in so that you won't feel the withdrawal of your previous drugs. If you take while you are sober then yes, you will feel high but only for the two or three times of the same dose. When you take the prescribed dose daily - you are in a completely sober state of mind and physical condition.

War on drugs caused this, if they would have kept giving out the pills people wouldn't have turned to alternative substances, when they cracked down on the pills heroin took it's place . When they cracked down on heroin, fentanyl took it's place. When they cracked down on fentanyl, carfentynal took it's place, now with tranqs. Same thing happened with stimulants. When from coke, to crack, to crank ,to methamphetamine. The war on drugs doesn't work. not without putting in the resources to get addict's clean ,and provide mental health meds and therapy. Honestly at least the weaker substances wasn't actually killing people. Worst part is China supplies the precursor chemicals to the cartels. China is playing the long game. If we had a system like Portugal we could fix the addiction issue , or at least decrease addiction and OD.

I've been clean of my addictions since 2015. Almost a decade now. But I stopped counting the years a long time ago. For me, I did it without God (though I found Jesus this year) and I did it mostly alone. I had to take myself out of the environment. I had to lose my friends. I had to start building my brain and personality again...rediscovering those things that made me think life was so amazing to begin with. The reason I started drugs was to experience all that life could offer. I started with MDMA before I smoked tobacco or weed. It started with parties. It ended with homelessness and ongoing family astrangement. I defeated it by mentally leaving that space and physically leaving that space. Thank God my city isn't a cesspit of drug availability and enablement.

This! My city only had 2 homeless people for the last 18 years. Everyone knew them and would feed and help them, they chose to be homeless. Now my city has a few huge encampments and this happened within the last 3 years. When I talk to them, most aren't on drugs but their rents doubled+ and they have no other choice but to live on the streets or in their cars. Most of the people I spoke to have jobs, some even have 2 jobs. 😞 My rent doubled in the last 2 years but luckily I had family I could move in with. I feel so bad for people who don't have family to help them. 💔

It's an interesting thought that maybe they should be provided with drugs. Imagine any drug all they want. The notion being that ultimately people will do what they want and won't change until they want to. By giving them the drug the peripheral crime related to acquiring the drug is severely decreased/eliminated. Instead of a harm reduction campaign for the user it would be a harm intensification campaign by enabling the drug use as much as possible. Overdosing would be allowed.
