I really don't get why this video series is not better performing on youtube. I expected it to blow up much more. I really enjoy these, Merphy, thanks for all the work you put into this!

I just realized that her One Piece videos do way better than her other videos, I guess she has a lot of One Piece fans on this channel, which is great! But I do wish that the other videos weren’t so underrated in comparison, especially this series! I’ve learned a lot through it

Look at what is trending nowdays. Futile stuff is easy listening, easy to digest and reaches a broader audience. Polished stuff like this documentary, and I say this with disappointment, has a shorter reach since people are losing interest for the actually valuable things like literature for instante, and everything that involves it. The best we can do is to give the example to our child, nephews, nieces etc. So they can grow seeing the value and beauty of books. English is not my native language so bear so with me xD

The upside is that it's evergreen content. People can come back to this for years to come to learn about the publishing process.

The problem is that this series is presented more in a documentary style, rather than an KZbin style. It is hard to explain what that means, but what I do not like so much about this video is how much slow-paced talking it contains, as opposed to more fun visuals or examples. For example, there is a lot of cool stuff that is being shown in this video. But sadly, it is being narrated by the expert who is being interviewed. I would have liked it so much more if the narration was in Merphy's voice. I think this series is a fantastic thing and I am grateful somebody took the time to made it. But while I think it is valuable, I do not think it is fun KZbin content.

The level of craftsmanship these two companies put into their work is breathtaking. I've worked on several books over my career but for the most part it feels like a privelege just to have the opportunity to do anything beyond standard 4-colour offset, eg a gold foil or an emboss. Gatefolds, hardback covers, sleeves, colour management, embellishments, binding and finishing .. there's so much that goes into a book that you'd never guess. This series is awesome. Thank you Merphy.

Paper, stock, binding: what’s not to love? Was anyone else hoping for an in-depth interview with Dwight Schrute?
@hartsbane3 жыл бұрын
Dwight K. Schrute: Soil. Right. We have in front of you here seven different types of Pennsylvania topsoil. Now, what would you say is the most important element in the production of above-ground leafy growth? Probably phosphorus, right? Wrong. It's nitrogen. Absorb this information.

Being a self-published author. This series actually helped me understand, how much more I should be doing to be able to stand up to these books. The work that goes into bringing a book to a readers hand is insane.

As someone who's worked in print production for over 25 years, my jaw dropped when I saw The Road To Potosi - I have no idea how they made the book spine work the way they did, but it's freaking awesome! Edit: and exactly the kind of problem-solving challenge I'd love to be confronted with.

I'm a teenage girl who works at a small independent bookstore, and I'm known around town for being super good at book restoration! People bring in their family heirloom books for me to patch up, clean, and reattach pages. I've always loved to work with my hands, and I've had my nose in a book 24/7 since I was tiny, so it really does feel like paradise. Great video, always nice to learn more about the publishing industry! PS: You wouldn't believe the effect the paper shortage has had on bookstores; it's crazy.

Love this series! It's like How It's Made... but for books! If I could offer a small suggestion: don't speak during the interviews while the interviewee is talking. By that I mean the "yes, mmhmm, right" comments that we so often make during normal conversations. It would give the whole thing a more professional feel.
