New York City based Interior Designer Robert Passal is well-regarded for his luxurious and livable signature style. Renowned for his unerring eye, Robert balances fine art and antiques with custom contemporary pieces to create singular interiors. His New York City home is no exception! From the inky-blue entryway centered around a Hendrik Kerstens' photograph to his velvet covered bedroom.

I sold Robert the Sciolari light fixture in his kitchen a few years ago. Looks great! He was extremely pleasant and professional to deal with. Clearly has an amazing eye and abundance of style.

You have a beautiful apartment, full of personality and interest. I firmly believe that a home needs art and books and anything else you're passionate about. In my case it's antique Chinese porcelain, which I love being surrounded by, but it could be anything that makes you really happy.

It seems Robert just has this urge to share the knowledge and it is lovely. He understands how important lighting is. Indeed, dimmers allow an incredible variety of atmospheres created by different intensities of light. I have been an all-dimmers guy myself for many years. Another clever insight he shares is the one about large objects doing wonders to small spaces.

I love boxes. For years I collected little one's, recently I was organizing some stuff and realized I hadn't bought myself a little box in a very long time and thought I need to start that up again. I always find places for my little boxes, whether it's grouped or tucked here and there...boxes are wonderful!

Your study is delicious!! I love the dark velvet full length banquette/sofa. I agree with you 100% on dimmers. Even in bathrooms. Dimmers everywhere, and layered lighting. My hubby likes to live in the dark, while I’m turning on every light, on dimmers, and lighting candles.

He is 100 percent correct regarding dimmers! Inexpensive and creates such a vast spectrum of moods --- I could not live without dimmers. I will say I find the apartment way too dark ---- for me ---- maybe if the dimmers were turned up.....oh, that is with the dimmers turned up? "Dimmers will change your life." Yes! YES!!! Most people are totally clueless. But, then, most people are not designers, nor can they afford one. Really, they just don't care (also, tightwads, thinking what all that lighting will do to the electric bill). The average person's aesthetic sense will usually never reach these levels. I remember a designer saying that, if the room has four corners, three of them should be lit. Then there's my sister, any given night sitting in the same place at the end of the sofa reading by the ONE lit light in the room! I know, to each their own. Haring, Basquiat, Picasso! Dude! Wonder what else you have that I didn't catch. Looks like a great collection! Best regards from small-town, badly lit Indiana! ;o)
