Colorado plays host to two big events. The Leadville 100 and SBT GRVL in Steamboat Springs. For cyclists doing both it is the LeadBoat Challenge. We were fortunate to go to both events, as Leadville is on Saturday and SBT is on Sunday. Catch the amazing cooking talents of Allen Lim and the riders such as Lachlan Morton, Alex Howes, Mo Wilson, Maude Farrell, Peter Stetina, Ian Boswell, Lauren De Crescenzo, Lauren Stephens, Kaysee Armstrong, Sammi Runnels and more! We were only able to stay a short time in Leadville and then headed straight to Steamboat to cover all of the mountain biking and gravel cycling in the beautiful landscape that is Colorado. Did you do any of the events? Let us know in the comments!

Great coverage of the events. Particularly leaving in the shade thrown by some of the women on the team tactics. These events are evolving and the team games along with it. Hopefully it doesn’t begin to erode the grass roots nature of the events and turn it into UCI road racing on gravel.

Tactics are what makes racing fun..
@timwhite2365
@timwhite2365 3 жыл бұрын
@@nationsnumber1chump just play it out to its logical conclusion. More racers decide to bring teams - either thru Expo Exhibitor slots or just signing up numbers hoping they get enough in via the lottery - limiting the slots available to riders just wanting to finish, then the average rider starts losing interest and then it becomes a team only event that very few care about and it goes the way of domestic stage racing, ie Tour of California. Having men on the team to pace the female leader and provide mechanical support happened at Unbound. Now we have a domestique fetching water bottles and supplies. Just seems to run contrary to the self supported nature of where it started. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it works out. From a tactics perspective there are plenty of tactics being leveraged without having teammates in the men’s race.
@nickstayner
@nickstayner 3 жыл бұрын
@@timwhite2365 It is a testament to the character and ethics of the women that chose NOT to employ a team of male domestiques to aid them in their own pursuit. Plenty of other strong women could have chosen to do this, as it is currently not explicitly banned at most events. Poor form? Absolutely.

From the Velonews article on the race. "While the rest of the women stopped at the fourth of six aid stations, De Crescenzo was able to keep riding, and once she got a gap and was riding with some male racers, she never gave up the lead." I guess there was no "honorable" agreement to stop. It's been suggested that De C got water bottles from her teammates, though I've not been able to confirm this. This whole gravel racing feed zone situation is a mess.

Gravel is still so new to be taken this seriously. I knew it wouldn’t be long till the grassroots self supported hometown vibe was lost but it’s happening even quicker than I imagined. Not stopping at a feed zone is totally the riders choice, but having domestiques bring you things you needed at skipped feed zone seems like cheating plain and simple. Nobody wants to complain and be a poor sport but cmon.
