And if you don't, would you mind to ask your elderly people in your family or neighborhood to see if anyone knowing of vietnamese boat people back then. I'm eagerly looking forward to hearing from you Thanks greatly and happy new year 2023 with all the bests to you and family

U feel a little distinguished from the rest of Thailand because Narathiwat is at the border of Kelantan (Malaysia). Their custom and lifestyle are very similar to their southern neighbour. Every fabric of life is staunchly adapted from Malay ethos: simple, unworldly and “sopan-santun”/reserved hospitality. Glad you took the challenge to visit Deep South despite discouragement from negative advice.

Not a myth, dude, around 7,000 people have died from terrorist attacks in the extreme southern provinces. since 2004. The Thai cops often have active checkpoints although being a foreigner often gets you a wave-thru at checkpoints because the cops don't want to lose face if they can't communicate with you. Visiting during a Muslim festival may have distorted some realities. There are terrorist cells but the people are very friendly and curious. There are frequent bombings although the covid virus seems to have reduced the terrorist activity. Police and teachers are often targeted in bombings although attacks on police stations are also carried out with guns.

Very interesting vlog Paddy. The UK Foreign Office still advises against all but essential travel to the southern three provinces, which might affect a tourist's insurance if they were to be involved in an accident. (More likely than a terrorist incident). The thing that always strikes me about these increased risk areas is that the people on the ground are still living the best lives they can, with family, friends and laughter - just as we all do. Thanks for showing us somewhere so different.

Paddy, your quick tour of Narathiwat is incredibly amazing. The choice of the hotel with a two-minute walk to the beach is a good choice. The game you have observed is called “sepak takraw”. It is one of the competed games on the biennial Southeast Asian Games. One thing you will notice that most of the Southern provinces are predominantly Muslim given its proximity to Malaysia. Even the food selections are of good fusion. You are blessed to be in Narathiwat during Ramadan they normally break the fasting after 6pm and you will see more activities after sunset. The burger looks delicious and at an affordable price. I only passed by Narathiwat once en route to Malaysia and I haven’t explored the place as you do. Your aerial shot is superb. Thank you, Paddy for giving us a quick tour of Nara. This is virtually entertaining. Congrats. Can’t wait for you to visit Phatthalung, Trang and Nakhon Si Thammarat, soon. Keep safe.

This close to the Thai New Year’s there’s checkpoints everywhere but no one gets checked unless it’s about 10 o’clock at night also your video is probably shot on the ninth and 10th of April it’s only three days until Ramadan. The Muslim community does not eat during the day and it will last until May 12 you’ll be long gone from the south by then but you time your visit during it. As mentioned before I was based out of Yala from the late 80’s until about the year 2000. Most the people that are giving you warnings and telling you how dangerous it is Most Likely have never been there and they’re just going off hearsay. I hope you make it down to Betong and the border with Malaysia. South of Yala are some amazing lime stone mountains the roads are epic and there’s lots of stuff to see.. enjoy and remember to stop by our village when you get to Udon Thani province we’ll be looking for you.

Malaysia North with a bit of Thai flavor for sure, considering the location of the province and its history.

your English accent is so easy to understand for me not like others British that I know. 😂 the weird green thing is called “lod chong” made of rice flour and I think you can find it in other countries in SEA I like this series of travel so much , Im Thai but I never visit many many provinces. nice to see! 😃 ปล.ดูมาหลาย ep ละ คิดว่าบ้านเมืองดูมีระบบระเบียบมากกว่ากรุงเทพอีก

in the border of malaysia, most of the people are thai malay who speaks malay. the food is heavy malaysia’s influenced like roti and that fried fish you ordered. everything looks like the northern states of malaysia like kelantan and kedah.

bro... little tip... I had the same starving problem when I lived for 5 years in thailand.... The main reason is the carb and the sugar that you eat from morning to evening. they always put some spoons of sugar in every meal that makes it sooooooo delicious XD and when you eat carb 3 times a day it makes you even more hungry so I ended up eating 4-5 meals a day in thailand because I was so hungry until I quit sugar and reduced carb

Hey Paddy! Love the channel. I hope you get up to Khon Kaen soon. I have in-laws and a house up there and that place is just an excellent slice of non-touristy Thai life. They have a few excellent temples and a couple of sweet walking markets. Day and night. If you get to the giant convention hall at the university, look for a noodle shop across the road. The nam tok noodles may change your life.
