You’ll have no doubt seen the ISS winking silently across an inky black sky wherever you happen to live. Magnificent as this celestial spectacle is, it does beg the question - what goes on inside? What are mealtimes like? Why are there strips of velcro all over the place? And did one astronaut really sneak a trumpet aboard?

Not sure what good putting a collider in space would do. Sure the problem of gravity and tremors would go away. But they require quite a bit of power and there is a lot of ionizing radiation in space that would mess with the equipment. I have heard of the idea to send laser interferometers to space to study black hole mergers and other gravitational radiation sources. Pretty cool!

@@myballsitchsomethingfierce6319 Ya... but no... That's the same idea as the old ones of using the boosters or fuel tanks as giant living quarters after you get up there. It's got some potential, butthe reality is you need a LOT of extra systems to handle the life support and other requirements that you won't get in a normal tank, doing it's job it needs to in order to get up there in the first place. So if you want a more proper place people can live in, it'll be denser and heavier relative to its interior volume than a simple tank. That all said... They do still allow for a lot of simple "space" in space, which is both good and bad as having more compartmentalization is normally desired to avoid risks, but an open space has its own options. So more likely you'd send up a small living area on the front of it, and then maybe keep the rest of the starship with a system to open and access the fuel area if you need some extra space, send a second or third with things to actually put in there like some equipment or supplies or whatever so it's not just empty space. Still the best option is arguably to just send up a 3d printer and raw materials to custom build the desired stations structure, then ship up the detailed complex parts to install and you could get a much more custom shaped and designed station for relatively less cost, though a fuel tank or such bolted on for that extra space again could be good. If you want a large volume for something like say... having a fishery or hydroponics sections in space that's isolated from the rest of it you could use a modified fuel tank for that perhaps, or again an exercise area given it's space depending on what you got for that. Though without modifications to make them more durable, radiation shielded, and proofed against micro impacts I'd not want to stay in a fuel tank for too long and would still feel much safer in a more purpose build living area and shelter. If building a new station, possibly having an area that spins might be good, but the joints for those is always a concern in space. But for more modern purposes having some gravity or acceleration would nicely helps the living conditions, while keeping that zero G in areas as well for all the important science and actual reason you went to space.

lol, lot of thinkpads. really speaks volume to which laptop people should get if they want longevity. the ipad's have recently been nothing but trouble on the ISS since they are running super old 32bit software no longer supported or developed. theres a rumor that apple had a couple of employees that did nothing but help keep those early ipads (1's or 2's from ~2011 i think) running but eventually gave up since they were being used so little. then nasa wanted to use the ipads to track nutrition about 6 yrs ago but there was literally no way to add a new application to them so they had to crowdsource and eventually ask 25 people to develop a custom nutrition tracker for them. what a headache.... i bet nasa is afraid to jail break the ipads for security reasons

Whoever leads in IT and artificial intelligence will dominate the world. Why does China build it's own Space Station? European Space Agency was open to China's inclusion, but the US was against it. US didn’t kick out Russia because NASA is dependent on Russian crew capsules when US shuttles were grounded after its failure. Putin withdraws from ISS in 2025 because it’s reaching the end of its functional life. Chinese Space Station’s one-fifth the mass of the ISS but it’s more spacious it’s fitted with wifi-connection video calling from the space station to earth shorter travel time from two days increase the number of automated and remote-controlled systems But we’re expected to believe that the US intends to defend the "rules-based order" that Russia and China are posing a challenge to.
@hiHi-iq5yp
@hiHi-iq5yp 2 жыл бұрын
@@LesliePeter fact check: NASA didn’t kick out Russia’s because they were partners and Russia contributed to many modules and science experiments on the ISS. The Chinese space station has around 4,000 cubic feet of living space while the ISS has 32,333 cubic feet. So more spacious in terms of volume isn’t correct. But the capsules do look a little wider if that’s what you mean. It doesn’t seem a considerable amount though. There is of course Wi-Fi on both space stations. The ISS do live interviews with many organizations constantly. The Soyuz capsule takes around 6hrs after launch to reach ISS but with a record breaking 3 hrs. While the Crew dragon takes 19 hrs but can be done in 6 hrs.

@@LesliePeter ; China want to show the world, that they can do everything better than every other nation on earth. This shows everywhere. In industry, in buildings and in spacecrafts. But what is with Space X - Kubric 2001 rotating space station ? USA, Russia and China claims to build such new space stations on their own. It is an gigantic effort of money, material and energy. Is this space race is really sensefull, when on the other sider each KWh used in normal live is a KWH used to much ? China produces 100 times more steel and concrete than Germany. China seems to be a hero in modern high level developement. But it cost a lot also in CO2 production.

@@ArKritz84 yes, we know it is science fiction. That is where inventors get their ideas. Launching a rocket with people aboard and landing it with a blast is 1950s science fiction. On Star Trek, people talked to a computer, and it responded. Alexa is now in homes. Researchers are using 3D printers to make meat. Sounds like the beginnings of a Star Trek replicator to me. In the future I expect a commercial hotel for outer space vacations that will be comfortable. These commercial launches are for regular people to be able to visit space eventually. There will be mining too like in the movie Alien. We are just witnessing the toddler phase of the birth of space flights.
