Science is sadly mostly politics, when a scientist or a group of scientists reputations are at stake they will do just about anything to keep that information from being studied. Regardless of if it's even true or not, a lot of them actively lobby against research on our own solar system.

I got to meet Clyde Tombaugh back in the 1970s. He was a lovely man and he still deserves the recognition for having the patience to go over those observations so painstakingly as to find Pluto in the first place. And it was where we were expecting something, just not our first dwarf planet.

Oh man I remember loving the hunt for planet X as a little kid in the 80s. I honestly didn't realize until this video that Neptune's orbit *never had* any deviations from the math. The inconsistencies were dismissed as bad data in my junior year in high school. Until 10 minutes ago I thought the Kuiper Belt caused Neptune to deviate. You learn something new every day. 🥰

Back when I was young, and Pluto still had planet status, I always thought that another reason the "Planet X" name stuck was because it would be the tenth planet, and X was the Roman numeral for ten. Just one more reason I wish NDT hadn't put out a hit on the planet named after Hades.

I thought the same thing. (Note: The rest of this comment verges on fan fiction) Sometime after the release of "Star Trek:Nemesis", I realized that the next Star Trek film would be the tenth. Since Pluto was still a planet and I'd hear of "Planet X" in sci-fi and speculation my whole life, I thought the next film should be called "Star Trek: X". My idea for the plot was that a long unknown tenth planet in the sol system was somehow on a collision course with Mars colony.

My most recent understanding is the Planet X between the Ort cloud and Kuyper belt would explain some of the Comets and other objects plummeting into the inner solar system. But this just raised an interesting question to me. Comet Shoemaker-Levy. Was that an historically known comet?

Fun fact, I learned in school back in 2002-4 that there are 11 planets, last 3 are pluto, Vulcan and X. Though the issue was solved 10 years back. It's terrifying how slow the information used to spread accross the world. note: I'm from Bangladesh, which is exact opposite side of the planet compared to US.

IMHO, the worst thing about Pluto's demotion is "Planet X" USED to work on two levels: "X" for Roman numeral 10, and "X" for "unknown variable." But it's out the window now. I have the same misgivings about the English language choosing "corn" over "maize": every fall, we could scare the kiddies with the thought of getting lost in a "maize maze!" (That would've been amazing...)

On March 23, 1966 Planet X left the solar system , and it was at night so nobody saw it . Then they sent planet Y to replace it . But if you look carefully at the photos , you can see the mountains look quite different , even though the continents were made to be similar.

I've never heard one conversation with this guy that I didn't enjoy. He delivers knowledge in such an enjoyable way that it doesn't feel like you're learning. If I would have had this guy for a professor in school I probably would have been in a completely different profession that didn't involve violence!!
