In this interview offered up by the Bafferts, we discuss his top horses Justify, Arrogate, and American Pharoah plus his views on drug testing. I asked the question to the public in another episode "is Justify using performance-enhancing drugs" and Bob Baffert addresses this and many other topics on the minds of horseplayers.

This is just such a satisfying interview! Bob Baffert has been my idol for years, and to hear him actually get comfortable enough to share his views and memories of his training career is just wonderful. I was full on with American Pharoah. I watched all the post-race press conferences for the Triple Crown races. Such a collection of high quality people who loved horse racing and loved American Pharoah: the Zayats, Justin and Ahmed, Bob,with his son, and. Victor Espinoza. Those were enchanted weeks. Thanks, Bob, for doing this.

Great interview and hats off to Bob for giving you 50 minutes of his time. He's the face of horse racing in this country and his accomplishments are legendary. His approach to training has obtained superior results year after year but his eye for quality and ability to read a horse and develop to their potential means that he is certainly in the GOAT discussion for his craft. Congratulations to team Baffert and wish all of them continued success.

Christian, I think the fact that Bob & Jill welcomed you to their stable for an interview speaks volumes. Only a person who has nothing to hide does that. On the contrary, he could have his attorney look into slander charges for allegations that Justify was juiced. When you are the best trainer in the world, you get the richest owners and the best racing stock. Plain and simple. Good horses make good trainers but only the best trainers can win the triple crown (twice). If you want to help the industry, please investigate the the individual state's procedures for drug testing, etc. For instance, do you know if all of the runners in the triple crown races are tested before and after the races? I know procedures vary from state to state, but I think the betting public has a right to know that the game is being played on a level field. Thanks, Jay

They were extremely forthcoming about everything and I appreciated their invitation to address a topic that is on the minds of many horseplayers. All I did was ask the question is it possible? After speaking firsthand to Bob and to other individuals in the industry in charge of drug testing, I find it extremely difficult to be the case. More interviews to come.

They were not, according to documents reviewed by The New York Times. Instead of the failed drug test causing a speedy disqualification, the California Horse Racing Board took more than a month to confirm the results. Then, instead of filing a public complaint as it usually does, the board made a series of decisions behind closed doors as it moved to drop the case and lighten the penalty for any horse found to have the banned substance that Justify tested positive for in its system.

I wish you had more questions about how others that have been caught cheated he was coming off like nobody cheats in horse racing. He came from qh where cheating is very prevelant and he made it seem like it was a clean sport while he dominated it. You could've asked about clenbuterol which has steroidal properties and is legal in cali and when combined with other drugs is very powerful effects. You didnt mention like you did on your previous video about the statistics and how you said he mathematically too good.

There is no way Arrogate doesn't finish in the top 3 in the San Diego handicap... If he ran backwards blindfolded he should have at least finished show... Smith never even put out the slightest effort to have Arrogate run that day... Same thing happened to Abel Tazman this year.... I don't who but somebody made a fortune betting against those two

There horse, man. Not race cars. Ever been around a horse? A plastic bag will scare them so much that it is equal to us seeing a grizzly bear in the wild. Arrogate shipped to Dubai and had a hard schedule. So many horses bounce after that trip. Smith saw the horse wasn’t firing and was worried he may have been hurt so did not whip on him. That wasn’t the Arrogate we know and many times horses aren’t the same after that Middle East ship. Arrogate also didn’t like Del Mar.

None of his horses tested for PED’s. What are you talking about? Pletcher has 6 fails the past year but NYRA was covering them up. ALL trainers encounter these contamination and overage issues. PEDs is something wildly different. I actually think it is smart to do it like they used to and cover up stuff that is contamination as the public can’t differentiate between Tylenol contamination and hardcore doping.

This is fucking hilarious. I'm with you... the numbers never lie... for someone to win at such a higher percentage than other trainers. It's not rocket science. To say that hes a better horseman than everyone else is laughable and truly a slap in the face to other good trainers. For him to sit here and lie to your face about Justify and then for him to fail a test is just hilarious. To be honest should it be a stretch for horse players to be able to get there money back if a trainer breaks the rules ?? Horse players make this business.. we should have more horse players demanding their money back if they lose their money and a horse fails a test! I've read charts that the footnotes read the winner was DQ'd for a failed test... the horse didnt recieve the winning purse money and was still a maiden afterwords! How many horse players lost money on that race because someone CHEATED?Notice the rambling about from Bob talking about non sense shit that doesnt matter... all the little details to keep you listening... just talking about random shit to say he talked to you but hes just telling stories! Classic liar. Hall of fame trainer no doubt but there should be an asterisk beside his name for sure.

Every human endeavor includes an element of imperfection, flaws, mistakes.. Drug testing is no different. It is not a perfect process. With that in mind.. blood samples should be sufficient enough to undergo a 2nd testing procedure if you get a positive... and the animal tested should be allowed a 2nd draw of blood to provide to prove it is clean. This would eliminate issues of a testing agent mixing up a handful of samples they had to work on .. or a tainted test kit... or a tainted batch of test kits. If your process doesn't allow for insuring yourself against human error and bad test kits ... You're not providing a Professional or Fair testing service. A single sample.. and single result type of prodecure "pretends" the process will be error/mistake free.. ALWAYS... and that is never the case... that is not a fair way to do drug testing. Employers and Governing bodies are OFTEN unprofessional in their drug testing procedures.. not providing for the % of inaccurate results that will always occur.
