Definitely have to agree with you there. It's a period of much experimentation where new ideas were constantly being tried out. Yes the P-51 and Spitfire were great aircraft, but aircraft like these could have a beauty all of their own.

I especially have this love for interwar foreign aircraft like Swedish, French or Swiss aircraft. It feels like as if they had made the best out of what they could at the time.

AT my older age , this is always a thrill to be able to be so close to so many different vintage planes and to see up close the amazing detail and restoration, all the original Blk/Wht. photos and films of these planes don't show how advanced planes were really soon after the plane was invented , blows my mind !! thank BIG "B" !

G'day, Believe it or not, when I bought my not completed Volmer Jensen VJ-24w, a 22 Hp Ultralight Motorglider, the bloke who I bought it from had built it with 2 Fueltanks under the Seat (the Rudder Cables went through the gap between them) and they were set up so they could be dropped free of the machine, in the unlikey event of an inflight fire. I considered it a foolishly paranoid fantasy (only 1 Ultralight in Australia has ever crashed as a result of an inflight fire...), so I covered over the hole to reduce Parasite-Drag. After all, how big a Fireball could 3 gallons of 2-Stroke Fuel actually produce ? Such is Life, Have a good one... Stay safe. ;-p Ciao !

Great video, thanks a bunch! That all metal load bearing fuselage skin was really early and modern back then, impressive! Even the Hurricane of Battle of Britain fame had a more old-fashioned design, more like WW1, using wood and fabric. I think maybe Dornier made something like this a few years earlier, maybe 1918 or 1919, all metal load bearing skin, but that one was perhaps more of a prototype? This must be one of the most modern designs to actually enter service back in the twenties!

Bismarck, its great when you get in close to these lesser known inter-war machines, when each nation was trying to read the aeronautical tea leaves while casting sneaky glances at what the other nations were doing. I think an episode discussing Poland's PZL P.7 and P.11 fighters would be good. I understand that when Nazi Germany invaded Poland, these were the machines that Polish pilots used, to go against the Luftwaffe.

with the droppable fuel tank design did this lead the way the external fuel tanks that we all know that are used by fighter aircraft?
