Once they overcome the FOV problem in a posterior version (v1.2, v2, etc.) and the price goes down to something "consumeable", this device will represent a real revolution. This, unlike the other solutions, can be used to increase productivity in a wide variety of environments (office, gaming, designing, etc.).

there r more issues with it than just the fov and the price...but they r all irrelevant being a dk version it's just a proof of concept meant for developing the software.......within 4 years there might be a dozen of these on the market all with different features and price ranges and within 6 years those will be dirt cheap and one day these will be as ubiquitous as displays ....it's almost inevitable what's important is that ....having a freaking digital layer over this reality is now possible

Wow, we go from having real desktops, to having virtual desktops, to a hybrid of the both. It might have low graphics and frame rates, and the FOV's not perfect, but it is a step in the right direction.

this is eerily similar to the "sixth sense" technology demoed by Pranav mistry(Top ten TED talks ) 7-8 years ago in Mysore(India) and was distributed as open source. Except for one difference that Sixth sense was a much more comprehensive technology to address the problem of merging digital and real worlds. Are the "holograms" as jittery in your view as they are in the video? Or is that happening because of the strain of capturing the video and rendering things at the same time? Or what?

how do you get the recording of the holograms for these videos?

+Bill C It has a 2.4MP on-board camera. They probably just take the footage from that and overlap the 3D graphics generated by the hololens for this footage. He mentions that it shows of the recording capability of it too, so that definitely backs it up.

apparently Magic Leap has no marketing budget because the only time I ever hear about it, its some troll on the web. I had a kickstarter campaign to buy my HoloLens and these guys trolled me there. My KS failed so I bought it myself.....

+Bill C You created a Kickstarter campaign so that you could buy yourself a Hololens? I'm not surprised you were trolled. I don't think Magic Leap is short on funds as they have 3/4 of a billion dollars in funding. According to them, they're keeping a low profile until they're ready to come out. Hololens and other players are softening up the AR and VR market in the meantime.

I'm curious why it is a waste of money to non developers. Most reviews say it is great for a V1 product. You didn't mention any real negatives other than FOV.

+Sam Quattrociocchi Hey Sam. At the time I made the video there were 4 apps on the Windows store which were made to take advantage of the Hololens. And what is available can be considered 'feature centric'; meaning it's there to show off what it can do, not leverage the technology to make for an experience your average consumer would enjoy. It's brand new, so there simply isn't 3K$ worth of content available.

Okay, I'm a developer. And I'm thinking about getting one. I have already been accepted to wave 3. So I am curious how I can best visualize the FOV. I am also curious about what the colors are like and how opaque the holograms are. Do you notice the lack of black holograms? Do world objects occlude holograms? Is color separation bad when you look around?

it's waste of money because you can't do much with it right now. And you can probably get a cheaper and better public version later.

amazing. the only thing i want to know is how well it works with periferals. why? because the interface looks godawful and slow. if you could intergrate a decent glove with it you could do really interesting things. then all you would need is a better display, like the cyborg man who wears a vr helmet every day. that guy whos been doing it since 2002. him.

Can everyone please look up the definition of hologram... These are not holograms... Please stop using that term... A hologram is a photographic recording of a light field, rather than of an image formed by a lens.. It,gives the illusion of a hologram but it's not....
