I love that Bayle's arena looks like a primitive mockery of Placidusax's area and also feels like a colosseum in contrast to the "place of worship" feel of Placi's.

From above, Bayle's arena reminds me of Placidusax's arena with all of the entombed Beastmen as his guardians - except that with Bayle all of those are empty. Really surprised that the arena changes in Phase 2, and reminds me of how the Scadutree Avatar's arena has all the shining golden amber fade to shadow after it's defeated. That might be interesting to explore in a before/after, especially since you can only explore a bit of the golden arena before the boss fight first activates.

I believed it was a vitrified impact site. During Placidusax and Bayle's battle, the place was shattered, and Bayle crashed down with a piece of Farum Azula which is now fossilized due to vitrification (which is why the arena appears to have once looked like a structure similar to Farum A.)
@irenafarm
@irenafarm Ай бұрын
It looks like it was once underground. The geology is karst, ie limestone hollowed out by water erosion. It matches the extremely folded and eroded limestone from Dragonbarrow to the Moutaintops. Maybe when this was a part of Farum Azula, Bayle was imprisoned here similar to how the royal Omens were kept under Leyndel.
@ASquared544

It’s most likely a very dormant volcano. This is mainly due to the whole Flame Lightning aesthetic and the magma produced by Bayle’s Tyranny. I mean, Volcanic Smoke from eruptions or even dormant volcanoes often produce thunderstorms, so it tracks.

I like the theory put forward that Bayle's arena used to be the foundation on which Farum Azula once rested before it took off to become a floating city outside of time.
@SpremeCalami
@SpremeCalami 2 ай бұрын
1) Placi’s arena alone is far too big to fit in the volcano, not even considering the rest of the city 2) Placi’s arena isn’t the entirety of FA, it is an entire city and land mass that likely fit into the gaping hole in the centre of the lands between map (suggested by the strange elevations in the sea in that area, the divine towers, and Gurranq’s bestial sanctum). Even if the 2nd point is just a theory on where FA originated, it is 100% certain that the entire city, and Placi’s arena, is way way way too big to fit on top of the Jagged Peak
@shiroamakusa8075
@shiroamakusa8075 2 ай бұрын
@@SpremeCalami You have forgotten that its current form has all the parts drifiting apart from each other. It used to be more compact since when we are in the past in Placidusax' "throneroom" we don't see any other pieces of the city outside, so we can assume Farum Azula's original form was that of a round tower that flared up at the top. It might have even be a spiraling tower if Farum Azula followed the design aspects of other "ancient" structures in the Lands Between.
@SpremeCalami
@SpremeCalami 2 ай бұрын
@@shiroamakusa8075 you make some good points but I think the architecture of crumbling FA says otherwise. Almost every building there has a roof, which would be very counter-intuitive if it was all covered by Placi’s arena at the top of the tower, and also how would the buildings be on top of each other if they had roofs? Also, most buildings stand on a piece of rock, which would be weird if the buildings were built high above the floor. I’m pretty sure Placi’s throne is just in the centre of the city, and the rest of it spreads far and wide outside, but we can’t see it because of the wall around the edge of the arena. In my opinion this is just looking too hard where there is nothing to see

Bayle's arena seems to be both a volcanic crater, as indicated by the second-phase fires, and an attempt to emulate Placidusax's arena at Farum Azula. Even the pillars with the indentations could be crude attempts to mimic the FA pillars. However, this poses curious things for the timeline, since IIRC, that area was meant to be Placidusax's mausoleum. Was Placidusax already considered to be dying before Bayle's uprising? Also, regarding the Jagged Peak, is it the tallest place in the DLC? What are the elevations of Bayle's arena and the highest point on the mountain? I'm curious if the Jagged Peak, Shadow Keep, or Enir-Ilim is the tallest area. It'd also be neat to compare the highest elevation of the monolith in front of the Scadutree Chalice, though said monolith can't be entered (tunnel aside) or climbed at all. Thanks for another interesting video!

This video kind of confirmed my suspicion in my previous comment from another one of your videos (which is shown at the 0:10 mark) that it didn’t seem like Bayle’s arena could actually fit at the top of the mountain as it’s rendered from the exterior. This video shows that is in fact the case, as at the 3:00 mark you start exploring the top where Bayle’s arena should be and not only is it not there, but there’s not enough space to fit the arena either. I had figured that to be the case because Bayle’s arena is huge, bigger than the top of the mountain appears from a distance, but also when you’re in Bayle’s arena and you’re looking up you don’t really see any any of the same jagged pieces of the mountain summit you can see from the exterior. I wonder at what point when you’re traversing the mountain that it loads the arena in place of the exterior.

Folks have noted the arena's similarity. The peaks look like building structures that have been destroyed a long time ago and eroded down a lot. The grooves in them are also very reminiscent of Farum Azula's columns with beastman corpses in them. I don't think Jagged Peak is a volcano. Maybe it was once a Dragon City that is now destroyed because of the Dragon Civil war and Bayle sitting at the peak going heavy on the lava lightning? Which makes me wonder if Farum Azula's land bound state, before the storm of time whisked it away, was perhaps a mountain?

I see a bunch of comments saying its funny how it looks similar to Placidusaxs arena. It seems pretty clear to me that this was the original location, and when the two dragons fought, the place was ripped apart. What I wanna know is what the structure was originally designed to do. We had beastmen sleeping in the holes, sure, but what for? Theyre arranged in a circle, but there are also towers around the edge of the arena with the holes too. Was it for creating heat like a crucible? Were they using gravity magic to draw something in from afar? Were they casting wind magic to always keep the peak inaccessible and took the wind with it when it flew off?

I actually think that the arena looks like that because Farum Azula was there before thinks got thrown around. If you line up the map, Thr Jagged Peak is around where Dragonbarrow is, explaining the Drakes, and Farum Greatbridge is not far from there, with the Bestial Sanctum having the same Architecture as Farum Azula.
@SpremeCalami
@SpremeCalami 2 ай бұрын
Farum Azula is far too big to have originated on the Jagged Peak. Placidusax’s arena alone is much, much bigger than Bayle’s. Not to mention the rest of the city outside of that. Based on the locations of the Divine Towers, Gurranq’s bestial sanctum and strange elevation differences across the sea from Leyndell to the bestial sanctum, it is heavily suggested that FA originally filled the gap in the middle of the Lands Between map. It is interesting though that (as you said) Dragonbarrow, the home of most modern drakes and the mother of all drakes, is situated in the same topological location on a map as the Jagged Peak, home to the father of all drakes. Maybe through instinct the drakes of the lands between were attracted to that area because of Bayle’s aura coming across the veil between the realms.

I’m gonna toss a theory into the ring that I think many will disagree with. The Jagged peak, is the cut down remnants of the “great tree” that all other world trees sprung from. Miyazaki has made use of stone arch trees in virtually every game. There’s a distinct lack of stone trees in ER, and no better place for the greatest, most ancient tree than next to the area inhabited by Elden Rings most ancient beings, the dragons.
