I just recently discovered who you are. Over years of depression family tragedy and learning I am an empath. You are saving my life right now. I have this stupid connection with you even know you do not know that. It just happens with me with certain people. It can be exhausting. I feel like this was supposed to happen for me. I just discovered Silverchair with Neon Ballroom when I was on my edge to adulasence with 17/18 and it stuck in my mind ever since. I even recently started to listen to it and other songs from Silverchair again, even to Diorama I couldn't hear for many years as it was the record I listened to the most when one of my loved ones broke up with me. But as Daniel I evolved and came out stronger through darkest times than I ever was. So much love and respect to everything he and his bandmates acomplished. I'm just sad I never got the chance to see them live here in Germany. Best wishes and love ❤❤❤

Same here. Born in 75 & I lived in small town Rapid City SD pop like less than 60g most of my life. Of course I had to rely on radio play for most of it too... So it was either 2 radio stations, one of which my mom worked at as newscast there, so often a couple of her Coworkers that DJ'd on the fm station would send cool tapes home for me so I got a couple... I think it was Freak Show. And MTV who believe it or not played VIDEOS still back then. So I would record them on my VCR... LOL...

I feel so privileged to have been in the credits…..I’m the last person who speaks, and it’s very surreal. Emergency Calls Only and the line “I don’t know what has been going on” has really connected with me and is my favourite song from FN. I’ve just gone through an ending of sorts and have been a bit lost, that song has helped me be content, so was stoked to talk over it!. I was belting the song out in my car right before the email with the link to the documentary came out in fact!! Silverchair has meant so much to me for as long as I can remember, and I feel like I got to say thank you to all of them. I hope Ben & Chris know it too. Was the best era to grow up and they killed it, they should all be so proud of their achievements.

Discovering Silverchair this year is the best thing thats ever happened to me. Every life affirming performance + album is a 100/10. Never connected to any other music or lyrics more than his - Fucking amazing. You can't even describe the albums because they're otherworldly - every album is fucking GODLY. It's fucking insane how good this music is, like I could cry. Get fucked, I can't believe I missed out on this shit for 23 years lol. Daniel you're a true musician and human, best music I've literally ever heard - Diorama made me want to live again

I agree 100%. Pulled me out of a hole more times than I remember. Starting at album 1 right through was a journey of amazing joy and catharsis.
@willowtree33052 жыл бұрын
@@BryanHRBrodie I wholeheartedly agree, you said it perfectly. I randomly came across a 1999 concert video and was blown away by it, especially Suicidal Dream. I then listened to the studio version on Frogstomp and remember thinking this is nothing compared to the live version.. Through more concerts (I think I've watched every one on youtube lol) I realised every performance of theirs is unrealistically good like better than any music I've ever heard. Then I listened to Freakshow and thought wow, this describes my life perfectly.. Then Neon Ballroom described my life even more perfectly. Then Diorama just hit it out the ballpark. Like each album just got better and realer. It's literally hilarious how good their music is, like I still can't believe it. I only just listened to The Dissociatives this week as I've been trying to fathom the other albums for the past 8 months haha. Also just listened to I Can't Believe It's Not Rock and the song Rain has me in a bloody chokehold. This shit is crazy. They have set the bar way too high for other artists lol this musical talent is truly unrealistic like in my 23 years of life I've never heard anything this moving or emotionally real. It's truly shocking
@BryanHRBrodie2 жыл бұрын
@@willowtree3305 you are spot on again. They nailed it live every single time. I play guitar a little and how daniel sings and plays some of those chords especially on later albums blows me away. I'm 38 and started playing guitar because of how I felt hearing nirvana for the first time. I can't believe I missed silverchair but im pretty certain I would have heard freak and tomorrow when I was younger but somehow it passed me by until lockdown. Every time I put freak on the stereo or played the riff on guitar my 2 year old would drop everything and start head banging. I'm definitely gonna check out those songs you mentioned. I appreciate your like mindedness. A lot of people are only interested in the first 2 albums but if they only gave the other albums a chance they would surely come around to the genius of Daniel Johns.
@willowtree33052 жыл бұрын
@@BryanHRBrodie I had that same feeling too watching Nirvana's Unplugged performance, was immediately hooked. Learning their discography has been amazing - honestly the best band ever. Got my first guitar a few months ago & its taken me that long just to learn Come As You Are, they make it look so easy! The fact they can play that well & sing at the same time is wild, it's so much harder than I thought! Did you watch tutorials on youtube to learn Freak? Thats so awesome your kid is loving music too! I see people comparing Kurt & Dan but their music/singing couldn't be more different, only similar thing is the honest songwriting, having no limits in expressing their emotions & life experiences, the unique & creative, sometimes even funny lyrics. Basically I just love how their songs are about life - relatable yet taboo topics people don't often openly discuss.. It's so healing to listen to. I also love how they stood up for the right things & used their platforms for positive change. I reckon Kurt would've loved Silverchair for sure. I also heard songs like Greatest View & Straight Lines on the radio growing up but never knew who it was or took much notice of it. When I listened to the albums I was shocked that I recognised some of them & have been hearing these songs my whole life. Even seeing the Young Modern cd cover brought back memories of 2007 being a kid seeing it in supermarkets/promoted on tv, yet I never truly acknowledged it. I also love Daniel's song 'Going on 16', it has a cool music video too. I think their best music video is Without You, its so beautiful, such a breathtaking meaningful song. I like all genres so I can vibe to all his music, but I've definitely seen the people who only like the first 2 albums & its their loss! I also find with the Nirvana fans most of them really hate Courtney Love, I think her band Hole is incredible & her songwriting & performances are fantastic, to me Hole's music is up there with Dan and Kurt! As someone who didn't grow up with rock/alternative music, its great finding these new bands, currently loving Dookie by Green Day and Adore by Smashing Pumpkins. If you have any recommendations for any music I'd give anything a go

It’s incredible to note, despite the battle of mental health issues (in an era where it still was a taboo!!) and despite the physical health issues, first and foremost: Daniel’s UNPARALLELED ability to take the pain and transmute it in the most profound and meaningful ART, WHILE he was struggling with it! TIMELESS art that will never cease to make sense. Daniel, you are one of the most STRONG and inspirational beings on this earth!! Being true to yourself teaches the ill society we all live in the most important lesson! We love you.

As a dysfunctional member of the musical society, I totally get what you try to express in your music, art, and even the much dreaded interviews!!! You just need to remember you are a real person and your journey is honest and you are being real with yourself!!!! Screw what society thinks, and embrace your journey!!!. Music has always been therapy for me. People, friends and critics don't always get it. But that's ok. My musical journey has taken me to some very dark places, but I always came out on the other side. I came from an abusive home life and music was my escape. But through my journey it has become my survival!!!! It doesn't matter if I am successful, because what I do is part of my journey. It helps me grow as a person and deal with my past on a positive level!!! I was a big 'Silverchair' fan, but I am a bigger fan of your present journey, Because it's the real Daniel!!!! Much love to you Daniel, and I hope you are getting the healing you need or want!! You are very talented and don't you forget it!!!!

I think Daniel was an artist who was never allowed to grow up and explore his creativity naturally, he had to do it under the gaze of the media with constant pressure to perform.....multiple hit records prove he coped with the situation remarkably well, but at the expense of his own mental health. I wish I had been able to see the exhibition, but, alas, I live in America. It looks fantastic and fascinating. When I read about Daniel's troubles recently and having dealt with a few traumatic life upheavals of my own this year, I began re-listening to Silverchair. It's been a wonderful experience reconnecting to my past, feeling like my old self again, and shamelessly rocking out. My senior year of high school many, many years ago I had a friend who was a foreign exchange student from Melbourne. She shared a lot of Aussie bands with me. One morning during break, I got myself a Sprite to drink. Sprite was running a promotion that if you screw off the cap and are a winner, you could win a CD. There were only three choices, and Neon Ballroom was one. I've never won anything before in my life. Because of my Aussie friend, I chose Neon Ballroom. I waited for nearly a year to get that CD, figured that it was some sort of scam because it took so long to arrive. To this day, Neon Ballroom is one of my favorite albums. Sadly, I lost contact with my friend about a decade ago. I hope she's all right and still enjoying the music too. Thank you, Daniel. Keep your chin up, head held high. You've made a difference in many people's lives.

Just in case, probably someone have already told this to you, anyways... You are made of GOLD. You are the GOLD STANDARD unbeatable to this time. If you disagree with my statement above, then I have ti say you are extremely precious to all of us, anonymous people, walking by, driving around, on a subeay, on a beach, thinking... No one makrs MUSIC as they musicians used to to do in the 90s till early 2000s. RAW, unapologetic powerful songs like very few dared to di. May be using a piano or a banjo, or guitars to communicate emotions with such frankness that whoever went or is going through a similar situation described in the lyrics, immediately feel like "Somebody else has been through this before - meaning that, I can go through walking till I find the light." At first glance, those brutally truthful, honest songs may sound bad, generate repulsive feelings until you realize no one can speak so accurately about "topic" without been there before. Then the song becomes very familiar and you understand, although it is about suffering or something else, it had to be done that way, the best way to express something, feelung, moments, experiences etc. THANK YOU DANIEL JOHNS. YOU ARE SHINING DIAMOND.

Daniel, Ben, Chris, your art made me. I was 1 year younger than you when I first heard "Tomorrow." It was great as a kind of post-grunge experiment. You all, with Van Dyke Parks, have made music I share with the kids. Introduction a 20 year old to "Across The Night," or "Tuna in the Brine," "Open Fire," and more, and watching their faces as they recognize the artistic perfection you 3 embodied....makes me tear up. You were why I grew my hair out. Why I wanted a PRS, a Soldano Head, and why I got serious about music. I saw you once in Houston, with Ammonia in the 90's for the "Freak" tour. "Cemetary...." "Faultline" was gold. "Undecided," I lived. I deeply deeply appreciate your artistic contribution, cultural contribution, and soul put into chords and an effortlessly perfect voice. You saved me. I love you all so very much. If you read this, just know...LEGACY, INTACT.

i just fell in love with the dissociatives. Better late than never. I wasn't a huge fan of silverchair, but this solo stuff is hitting me just right. Get those videos on here in 720p, at least. Great work. This is Daniel's time.

Find Happiness in all you do, Daniel; drive down whatever sonic avenue lights your soul to spill out fire; draw from whatever river of inspiration you can and give it back tenfold.

Mate....silverchair was your fuel...you are now orbiting, but you will always be the astronaut. You are such a massive talent and australian at that. Its amazing to connect to you on such a common level with how you express yourself in the videos.

I'm not expecting the exhibition to tour (maybe a mini-exhibition? 🥺) , so I'm so grateful that we've gotten to see some of it in this video and in Daniel's IG stories. I can only imagine how awesome it would be to get to experience in person!

DISCLAIMER !! I MIGHT BE MISUNDERSTOOD. First and foremost thenks from heart for the music and emotions which alln those years I- We all have been recollected. Amazing experience to work with a Great Artist´s timelife on a very accurate and sensible-genuine touch. To me , the act of catharsys bring me to interpretate a very sweet redemption of Nirvana sore and bitter end. IF in such a way life might somehow repeat ciclically itself , there might be somekind of similar pattern with a little twist on the plot which could overcome some of the previous patterns, in order to define a way better complition. The point is not here to define a very lame similitude on the music taste with the grunge genre´s association but something which evolve the uncomplete saga with Nirvana´s leader tragic death. To my wiev,the almighty work of Daniel here as Artist and Brilliant musician- composer is to soften-up the end of an era, blinking with one eye a "parallel " universe in which facts are objectively well accepted. No need to take any malfunctional interpretation of other suicide cases, no need to flip into some low feeling reverbs "again " , the past has already been dictated what was in the early ninetees . But another legendary similar story channelled to other possibilities to flip the scrypt, as a given gifts for other generations. THANK YOU for the awesome concept of this golden saga where Dan and all His universe feels as a medicine for our souls.

I've loved this series - seeing the exhibition in person (whilst all about Daniel of course!) is very much about all of us growing along with him. I'd see the clothes he wore in The Dissociatives on Rove and it took me back to 2004 when I watched the interview. Or I'd see a Freakshow poster that my best friend had hanging in his room when we were in high school. I understand when he says "Let's pretend I'm dead and make the record" because visiting the exhibition felt a bit like attending a wake...remembering all the good times and celebrating a friend we've grown along side.

For Me. The exhibition was a very personal experience which teleports you back to moments in your past at each turn. It allows you to go behind the mask we wear every day and reflect or remember time pockets that had somehow been archived in our heads somewhere. Thank you! I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the Album!

Your live acoustic stripped down interpetation of Smells Like Teen Spirit is a masterclass. Quite possibly one of the best covers I've ever heard. Sad to hear you won't be touring. I still remember you in Vancouver with a little known band called Nickleback opening for you. All the best if you still read these things.
