Ever heard of NBA players saying a specific player on their team were on ice tubs and can't stand anymore or something like that while guarding specific players? He definitely meant his heart and focus was never in the defensive parts of practice. He was talented and big enough that him just standing in the lane was enough most of the time. Seems like at mid-season, there are four tiers of teams in each conference, all sorted by almost identical records, each comprising roughly a quarter of the teams in the league. BOS, PHI, MIL in the East, and OKC, MIN, DEN, and LAC in the West, are Tier 1 Contenders at roughly 30+ wins, and within a game or two of each other (23% of teams in the league). Tier 2 Competitors rounding out playoff spots are NYK, CLE, MIA, and IND, and in the West, SAC, PHX, NOP, and DAL. All are 5-6 games behind Tier 1, and capable of being Tier 1 contenders by April (27% of teams). Tier 3 scrappy play-in teams, include ORL, CHI, ATL, BKN, TOR, LAL, UTA, HOU, and GSW, all are around 10 games back, who could pull off an upset and win a first round playoff series should they qualify for a post-season (30% of teams). Lastly, there's a Tier 4 of tanking, featuring CHA, WAS, and DET in the East, and MEM, POR, and SAS in the West, all playing for lottery position 20+ games behind Tier 1 (20%). To me, this clustering suggests Tier 2 teams need to be the ones to make moves at the deadline to become more competitive, and we've seen that so far in the East - Rozier to MIA, Siakim to IND, Anunoby to NYK. Based on this trend, I'd expect it continue with SAC, NOP, DAL - and maybe even PHX if they can afford it - to make a move before the deadline as well, acquiring players from Tiers 3 and 4.

As a Bulls fan, as much as I love watching Caruso and him as a player in general, his value is sky high right now. We aren't going anywhere and we need to move him when he's got value. We have a few good young guys to keep around, but moving Caruso sadly has to be the play. Vuc, Lavine and Derozan are all top of the list as well. We need to move at least 2 of those guys. Build around Coby and despite PWill's slow start he's getting more steady and confident.

Not sure Carlisle likes him... he is signed to 8 million for several years. He is an automatic lightning rod off the bench. His Points per minutes played is really good. Imagine if the Bucks stole him away from the Pacers... I also would love to see him re-unite with fellow friend and Montrealer native, Lu Dort in OKC. Again off the bench... in both cases... a couple of first round picks and an expiring contrat role player maybe gets this done... Mathurin is a gamer. Mathurin shows up in the really big games...

Philly needs to find a way to get Cam Thomas from the Nets to fill that 6th man role. Maybe the Nets will be just stupid enough to give him up. Or maybe they can get Dinwiddie. Even before the season started I said the Bucks would have to make a move at the deadline. Giving up Grayson Allen was a stupid move by them in my opinion. If they can someone get a Bruce Brown or Caruso and some bench scoring depth they'll have a chance. The Celtics are just too deep, but their biggest problems are Porzingis' health and coaching. If he stays healthy throughout the playoffs they win it all. If not they're beatable. I still don't trust Mazzulla, but we'll see.
