@@AlaborJinta She made the right call on it not being a shooting foul, she just made the call late. Continuation isn't based on when the ref makes the call, continuation is when the foul occurs. Maxey's not even touching him once Clarkson gets into his shooting motion and she makes the call. She screwed up in calling it so late, but the end result was exactly what should have been called.

Refs call fouls late ALL game in the context of fouls on the floor vs shooting fouls. But see how its only an issue because it was last seconds of the game. She made it perfectly clear with her hand gestures that it was not a shooting foul she put her arm up and then clearly said shot not good. It was a foul on the floor every day of the week

Play this video at .25 speed. Pause it each frame if you have to. Ref counts steps after the ball is gathered from the dribble. He his left foot is in the air and not established prior to the gather. This is why the NBA has evolved. Ridiculous footwork and timing. They could remove the ticky tack fouls that get called on step back 3s, which would make it easier to guard. But this is not a travel. Edit: I see you are likely not talking about the step back 3, but him taking 3 steps prior to dribbling 😂. Okay my b you gotta point.

I actually prefer refs to make "late" calls if they are correct. Take an extra second, make sure you see what you are seeing, then make the call. If refs were taught to do that, we'd have a LOT less garbage calls due to flops.

It's tough to be a ref. If you call a foul as you see it, there is a brain processing delay from seeing the play, recognizing a foul, and blowing the whistle. The alternative is to anticipate a foul, which gets a lot of refs in trouble.

If you watched the game, Maxey was on fire. Utah needed everything to go right for them to win, so when it got down to the wire, even the announcers said "the refs don't want to decide the outcome of the game". So unless there was something that had to be called immediately, they weren't going to blow the whistle. Which is good, as a ref, if you're not capable of making the right judgement because of experience, then its better to watch the play and use your knowledge to read the game to the best of your abilities, its when you give a team a clear advantage that they don't deserve is when things gets ugly.

Im a life long jazz fan that grew up loving the NBA. In the 90s the NBA and the refs blatantly helped Jordan and the bulls beat the Jazz when Utsh was obviously the better team. Its only gotten worse to a point where i cant even enjoy the league. Its unwatchable, even for Lakers fans they know the refs are doing the bidding of the commissioner and the networks they don't even like it.
