I still remember seeing her win a dunk contest when before she began her time at Tennessee 20 years ago. She's definitely one of the best to ever do it. Her spot in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is waiting for her.

I'm glad she did it lowkey. I'm annoyed at players who do the whole goodbye season...it's kind of an EGOMANIAC type thing to do that. She did her thing and now she is calling it without the FAN FAIR. It takes a solid person to do that...especially someone so DECORATED in the game of basketball.

How is it egomaniac? Kobe was celebrated during his last game because everyone knew it was the end. If you know your fave player is retiring next year, you get to make a decision about seeing them live for the last time.

You could tell she doesn't want to be fussed over-- didn't come on the show-- but it's important they did this. Let's be real, they haven't paid enough respect to the women's game over the years ("this ain't the WNBA!" used to be a Chuck punchline). The one Inside guy who added a lot of WNBA royalty on his segment was KG, that didn't get a lot of attention but I really appreciated it.

I'm not mad at the players that do a farewell tour. But i for sure takes a special kind of ego to be that good and also be like...nah, that ain't for me. As a fan, I wish we were getting the parade, but...she did it her way, much respect.

Candace was kind of the role that Caitlin Clark was in when she was in college. People tuned in to watch her in college and followed her in the WNBA. Even tough her early career had some road bumps, she was kind of marketed as the "Female Lebron," or because she was considered pretty. And once she got over her early injuries and he pregnancy and she came back to the Sparks she was absolutely great. I always remember the coverage of her/Taurasi, and it seemed like they had a quiet rivalry.

@@369pendulum Nah. Candace had reporters on her front lawn in high school. ESPN televised her college decision, which was not a thing done for a female athlete before that time. She had big, big, BIG time hype. Magazines and TV spots everywhere. She had it all - mad handles, creat court vision, foot work in the post, a jump shot, stellar timing on blocks and steals. Easy on the eyes. Heterosexual (back then, lol). Even social media were as big back in 2008 when she entered the WNBA draft (nationally televised, which they had not been doing up until that point), we would have seen what we see now with Clark. I'm almost glad she missed the 24/7 news cycle though. I can't imagine what the comments would have been like when she got pregnant after her rookie season winning ROY and MVP. Marketing-wise, she never quite recovered from that, despite being by far the most popular and recognizable female baller until Caitlin.

@MrNewktrane
@MrNewktrane 4 ай бұрын
@@steelcurtainsteeler2249Swoopes & Lisa are 2 all time greats who I still miss watching do their thing on the court. But CP changed the game forever as there never was before nor present- a female player at her size of almost 6'5 with handles like hers who could & did bring the ball up the court. She could - and did on occasion - play any of the 5 positions on the court. Her all around game remains 2nd to none as she could shoot & play on ball defense like Swoopes & defend in the low post like Leslie. CP's low post game was sick as she was and 1 waiting to happen with her low post moves & her court vision - which any of her teammates had to keep their head on a swivel as one of her bullet passes might be coming their way in an instant. There will never be another game changer like CP. Period.

@@steelcurtainsteeler2249 maybe she's the better dribbler or scorer. I would agree. She might even be your favor. But for the last 20 years Candace Parker has had the best career in basketball history. From Slam Magazine and slam dunks in high school. Being the first person to bring real attention to Women's College Basketball. And ultimately having a media, analyst and position in sports news that competes or even outcompetes Shaq, Kenny, Chuck and Ernie (the KINGS of basketball on TV). Those guys did it after great careers have done so much for TV basketball. She kept up with the greatest to ever do it in a way where she could be considered one of the greatest tv basketball people. Yes, Cheryl Miller was THE most important woman on tv basketball, but Candace is often the most important person in TV basketball. I say she's the greatest person in basektball because she did all of that before retiring. It takes everyone else at least two elite careers to get to where she got halfway through hers. You really have no idea who wins 1v1 or 5v5 under experimentation conditions, but I KNOW Candace is God's gift to basketball and if you don't, then that's fine. But she's Mount Rushmore. Mountain is built on Cheryl, but Candace is rightfully the present and future face of basketball. She wins and it's not even halfway over. Shaq wins because he was fast and strong. Things he had to work on. He's everywhere on TV. Something he had to work on. He's money from behind the arc. Something he had to work on. Shaq worked hard from day 1 to do 50 to improve his skills to contribute to basketball as the best contributor in the room. He competed with everyone day one for that job. He competed with Kobe his entire career and today there's no competition. Shaq is the most important basketball player and your favorite players favorite player.
