Back in the 70's and 80's when I attended school we just had basic fire drills. Now, students have lockdown and mock drills in case of a potential shooting incident. Class room doors are required to be locked from the inside at all times. As parents and grandparents, we need to be aware and be vigilant. As a community, we need to be proactive and engage with other like minded people to provide a safe environment and best resources for our youth.

Children have always been killed. This has always happened. What is different is that it is so easy to get a gun now. We didn't used to make as many guns as we do now. The guns we used to make suck compared to guns today, and people on average were poorer and would only buy them if absolutely necessary or if they had a good amount of money to spend PLUS a gun shop nearby. Now there is one or tens or a hundred gun shops in any town or city where it is legal. All the guns that are obtained illegally were at one point built and sold legally. There is no illegal gun manufacturer (unless you count 3d printed, but those guns, again, absolutely suck). We decide every day to allow these weapons to be made and sold with very few limits. There will always be imperfect and fucked up people willing to use them for harming others, so the only option we have is to limit their proliferation.

Just did a career day at a local elementary school here in Atlanta. Such wonderful, amazing, loving 3rd and 4th grade little humans being taught and cared for by the most amazing teachers! The Government school system is purposely labeled as a safe space for criminals. The "no guns" sign tells the criminal all they need to know. Being a parent it definitely is on my mind a lot I went to the school that was right outside the projects and we never had anything like this. Because of social media it seems like our children have been hit with mental health issues early on as a parent trying to talk to my kid as someone that has had depression suffering from ADHD all my life I try to tell my kids it's okay to talk about these things and they're even like put off by talking about it. A lot of times we pray for the victims and family (AND WE MOST CERTAINLY SHOULD FIRST AND FOREMOST) but man to the first responders, crime scene personnel, medics, doctors, coroners, cleaning crews. It’s tough on them as well. Praying for all involved and yea, we have to do better somewhere down the the line we’ve failed people. 💔

The shooter was faced outside of the elementary school by 3 police officers. Somehow this 18-19 yo was able to out-fight the three "trained" police officers and enter the school where he barricaded himself inside of classroom killing every kid and teacher inside the classroom. What kind of training do Police officers in USA get? This is the people that are supposed to protect and serve?. These cowards ran away and let this monster kill little kids. They should be held accountable.

That's not totally true. Many politicians have been fighting to pass gun control laws or "common sense" gun laws, but unfortunately, too many others are fighting to let any idiot have weapons of war in any situation and the NRA keeps spreading the money. And too many Americans still confuse guns with "patriotism" and "freedom."
