Shaq used to leave the court as fast as possible anytime Kobe hit a game winner, with the most terribly unhappy look on his face. I saw it with my own eyes, the beef was real, and it was bigger than they even reported at the time, it was nuclear. Plaschke wrote a great article in The LA Times when shaq retired about how they could have won 8 or 9 if they had gotten along, and it’s true, and most people in LA know it’s true. Gods are held to a higher standard, the one of “did they maximize every bit of possibility they had?” Shaq won 3 with LA, could he have won 8? Yes. Is 3 still great? Yes. It’s complex, and I’m glad Kobe gives him a parental stare during the interview, obviously it made shaq find some honesty within himself.

JamesonScalia i was fortunate enough to see the best 10 yrs of the lakers from 2000-2010. It sucks that the two couldnt get along longer, but if they were able to work things out like scottie n jordan, magic and kareem, kobe and shaq would of won for sure 6+ rings minimum

Being 45 years old and having seen all this back then while living in the San Fernando valley , this reveals why I've always Loved Kobe so much. People comment all the time bout kobes 5 rings and way too often try to discredit his first three for having shaq. Those people that wanta do that should watch this again and listen to the big fella when he gets honest in moments as he talks to kobe.

Chuck was totally right. They should have won more. But he should have known that Shaq would go crazy on him with that Lakers crowd there. Also, I don't think Shaq would be the player that he was if his attitude toward the game was different. I think that may have been a point that Shaq was trying to make as he was telling Chuck that he didn't know what he was talking about.

Shaq keeps bringing up three out of four to escape the fact that he didn’t work out on the summer so they’re run could last longer. Kobe hated that he thought it was all good to have a young player who can give you 40 because you’re out of shape. If Shaq came in with a better work ethic his career could have been more dominate longer. Look at lbj who’s just as dominant but he works out and diets throughout the off season.

In terms of optimization, Charles is right. Did Shaq win titles, yes. But could he have done more? Absolutely. Because of his weight, free throw shooting, lack of post moves, and defense, he didn't optimize his chances of winning. We saw the last bit of an angry shaq in Miami.
@azizafzali7308
@azizafzali7308 7 жыл бұрын
Lack of post moves? You just showed your limited knowledge of basketball. Shaq had very effective post moves. Go back and watch him in the 90s. His weight allowed him to be the most dominant player in the modern era. Heres another thing you and other people like you don't realize. Shaq admitted that he rested in the off season due to injuries and the beatings he took from hack a shaq during the season. Lets say he doesn't rest and instead trains nonstop... maybe that leads to him over working his body and not allowing it to rest. For a guy that big that might lead to a major injury if he hadn't gotten the right amount of rest. People like you underestimate the importance of rest when it comes to training and sports.
@iaresimon
@iaresimon 7 жыл бұрын
Lack of basketball knowledge? Blow me, I watched him his whole career. Even one of his coaches Tex Winter touched on it. When his power left him his lack of feet work(his words) and heavy hands didn't do him any favors. Don't assume I don't understand the importance of rest, he was noticeably fatter over the years, being drafted at around 290 to explode up to 370. He lost 60 lbs when he went to Miami, its not rest -- its fat.

Sorry I wasn't clear, Fat shaq. Shaqs game was overpowering people. But his first decade in the league -- he was an athletic specimen from the NBA standards. Because he gained weight and his footwork wasn't up to par, along with his touch, his game was a shell of himself from his younger days.. The most disappointing thing from a Shaq fan, was that he couldnt have the the discipline to keep the weight off and compete at the highest level for years more than he did. I think if he did he wouldve had the longevity like a Kareem, Kobe, or Lebron.

So Shaq relied on kobe but when chuck says it its no Google the finals key word FINALS proves it was kobe who carried them in the playoffs but Then it was Shaqs thinking that he should get more numbers in the finals to show he was dominant this sit down will help ppl understand why kobe didn't just avg. Like 35pts a game because not only did he a so called "ball hog" have to share with another black hole in diesel but he also had to let Shaq get his numbers or else he probably wouldnt of put in any effort in the finals very revealing well at least for the kobe haters real nba fans know whats good.

Shaq was no black hole. He was a 60% scorer. Kobe a 45% scorer. If he and Kobe was the same age and both free agents, it is clear the Lakers would've ditched Kobe and Kept Shaq. But because Shaq was much older and on the downside of his career they decided to keep Kobe because he was just getting into his prime years.

Man, the 3 out of 4 answer over and over. Shaq admitted he didn´t train as hard as he could in that interview as he did at the one with Graham B. He also says there is no beef when Kobe states in an interview he wanted to leave cos Shaq said he couldn´t win without him. He´s one of my favourite player, as Kobe is, but he just can´t admit the truth. The beef was real, they might have taken some advantage of it and blah blah but it was real, he even tried to punch Kobe man, such a huge fist can you make you disappear as if you were snapped by Thanos.

Shaq did say that he knew he had Kobe, so he didn't need to work hard to prepare for the season. HE SAID THAT, also Kobe called what they had beef in the interview several times he referred to their disagreements as beef and say that it served as a motivator. HE SAID THAT. What is Shaq's problem? It is true that if Shaq was as devoted as Kobe they would've won more....even though he is satisfied with what they had accomplished. Shaq was just a lazy bum of a player who relied on the easy way to be great and that was to use his size to dominate. Hey he's right! He did get 3 out of 4. But Chuck is also right, they could've won more if Shaq was more dedicated to the game and didn't rely on Kobe as much as he did.

Shaq can never be considered among the great centers. One he simply didn't have enough skill, and couldn't shoot free throws. He didn't stay in shape in off season. But also his only strength was easily taken away from him. In 90s he was crushed by people like Rodman and Hakeem Olajuwon. The Pistons beat them because Shaq didn't have enough game outside the paint. And Kobe and the rest of the team wasn't good enough to get him the ball down low, or to break the defensive pressure on perimeter.

Lol! I see Chucks point of view but I think Shaq is right. After losing to Detroit, management knew they had to get quality players but wouldn’t be able to afford it. Look at the 03-04 team. Besides Shaq and Kobe, and old Malone who got injured and GP, who’s left? The logical thing to do was trade Shaq. Would renogiating Shaqs contract help? Possibly but he was 32-33 at that time. That’s the age range when NBAers are looking for their last large long term contract. Shaq looked out for himself and his family since he had $57M locked in for two years and Lakers looked out for themselves. It was a win-win. He got one in Miami and Lakers got two more. Both parties knew what they needed to do. Chuck is one to talk about not being in shape. lol.

Charles makes a great point. Shaq didn't want to accept it, but out of his own mouth he admitted in the interview that he relied on Kobe and didn't even bother to maximize his own God given abilities. Most dominant? Maybe, based on natural gifts. But just imagine what he could have been if he had pushed himself the way that Kobe and Jordan pushed themselves. Shaq is too stupid and too stubborn to see that even now. And the irony is, Shaq is trying to belittle Charles, a man who is only 6'5", but played the power forward position like he was 6'11.

Love Shaq--he's a real funny dude. But from 1000 miles away, I'm going to tell him he's full of it. What he found during those title years was that he didn't have to exert maximum effort because Kobe was such a beast. He got lazy, fat and happy. Nothing wrong with that--when you retire. Barkley is 100% right--that Lakers team WOULD have challenged the Bulls dominance. The NBA had NO answer. The whole idea of not practicing annoys the shit out of me. Same vibe when Iverson said he didn't have to practice precisely because he was so great. Bullshit. You practice with the team and you get even better.

I'm sorry but I somewhat disagree, when Chuck went to the finals he just had a MONSTER called Micheal Jordan as an opponent who averaged 41 points 8.5 reb and 6.3 assist, while having scottie Pippen has his second wing giving him more than 20 points and almost 10 rebounds. Chuck had none of that his second best player scoring wise was averaging 17 points and it still took the Bulls 6 games to defeat them with the final score of game 6 of 99 to 98. I respect Shaq and I think he knows how to win, but he never faced the GOAT in his prime.

why bring up mike/ i am not questioning mike. look the nba didnt have mike for 2 years. chuck had his chance. but as i say, he had no team mate the caliber of kobe. mike is the best nobody in his sane mind would question that.

I'm just saying that telling that Chuck wasn't able to do it because he didn't have something isn't fair because they played in two different eras with different competition and different quality of teammates.

A bunch of teams could have won more!!! Michael could have won more...yall need to stop with that. The discrepancies was EXPLOITED through the media. Shaq getting upset because the Narrative that "Kobe sabotaged the team" was being pushed & people ran with it! Blame Kobe but not realizing its TWO sides to every story....& then there is the Truth!!! Kobe never hated Shaq & Shaq never hated kobe...they jus DISAGREED on some things....but that dont mean they didn't have true feelings for each other & didn't truly cared about each other. I think people are seeing that now & realize that after Shaq FINALLY takes responsibility for his fault, it ONLY leaves the media to take responsibility for their fault as well....because they sided with Shaq! That's why Shaq got mad with Chuck, still screaming the same old story, still saying the clichè shit EVERYBODY says! Painting a perception that theywant people to perceive. Kids now in days look at Kobe still as a "Selfish, ball hog, ran Shaq out of town, (kinda) type of guy". But then look at LeBron as the "Greatest" of All-time but don't know he got SWEPTED 0-4 in the FINALS against the Spurs because they do an EXTREMELY good job at covering it up.The beef between him & kyrie, trying to blame Jae Crowder for Gordon Hayward injury when, IN FACT it was lebron cheating on defense sitting in the Paint, over pursuing to ball got up under hayward which lead to his fall! Smh amongst other shit but leave it to them to pick & choose what to lead with & what not to report VS The truth!

M. Acosta I doubt that he was trying to get under his skin. Chuck was just sharing his thoughts on the situation but unfortunately Shaq always gets offended when he gets a little criticism, and always has to try and make Chuck look bad because Chuck doesn't have a ring. Shaq can never accept any criticism in a mature manner, always gets so defensive like a child.

shaq wouldn't let chuck finish,. Lakers could have won more if shaq gave way to Kobe when it was kobe's time,. they could have won more if he worked as hard as kobe did,. shaq was like lebron, he is not that valuable when the game is on the line,. you hack a shaq or hack a lebron, you have a pretty good chance of winning a close game,. they are stat freaks but they have MAJOR FLAWS,. If Prime chuck was in the TEAM that shaq was into, they could have won more LOL,.SHAQ wouldn't win anything too if he played in the Jordan Era
