During the last Shogunate regime in Japan, Tokugawa shogunate, the shogun’s mother, his wife, his concubines and thousands of female servants lived in a place called the Ooku (大奥).
After Tokugawa Iemitsu succeeded as the third shogun, he did not have any concubines for a long time. Rumor has it that he liked man instead of women. But everything changed when his first concubine entered the Ooku.
