HMS Diamond has been battling Houthi rebels in the Red Sea, taking out multiple drones using several on-board weapons.
Meanwhile, in Portsmouth, her sister ship, HMS Duncan, has been taking on a training exercise to recreate the Type 45 destroyer's response to a potential aerial attack.
Commander Ben Martin, Commanding Officer of HMS Duncan, said it is "routine business" to make sure the ship is prepared "as the very high readiness destroyer".

For anybody wondering what they are wearing it's flash protection against fires. It has been mandatory since the Falkland conflict any time the ship is likely to be under attack or in hostile waters all crew will be in flash protection, one of the harsh lessons the RN learned the hard way.

Why aren't they wearing eye protection? The eyes are the most vulnerable parts to flash, flame and fragments--and there's no replacing them.

If we got rid of our own nuclear deterrent and just hosted US nukes we could put so much more money into our navy and with china and the South Pacific being the next naval focus point it’d make sense to have 10 nuclear attack and cruise missile launch subs instead of ballistic subs but idk.
@keech100
@keech100 4 ай бұрын
Technically not that much from the deterrent themselves. Only 3bn I believe a year which is about the cost of 2ish nuclear attack subs before you take into account training and ammo. Although I do agree with your overall point of needing more normal troops. We pretty much just do whatever the US does as it is

The next major war will be in the Pacific, now that Russia is castrating itself and it's economy in Ukraine. The war in the pacific will be fought by the US, leading Canada, Australia, Taiwan, NZ and probably the Philippines too. The UK will no doubt play a role but it isn't operating in it's back yard so its contribution will be more limited.
