I agree. But, people in New York City attach status to living in Manhattan, like they have "arrived." So, the landlords can get away with spaces that would be unacceptable elsewhere.

Agree. This was my dorm room😬
@ThereAreNoBlackPpl2 жыл бұрын
I am highly confident there is a legal requirement, special dormitories have arrangements like these where they don’t have to have a bathroom inside the individual’s personal space, &NYC says that apartments need certain things, last I checked some of these kinds of apartments were being busted up, because people need access to certain facilities, this is likely a rented room with a SHARED bathroom and kitchen area that people mostly don’t use because they don’t want to share with strangers and prefer to stay in their own space, so they make a mini kitchen and more apartment-like in their room, … basically, this is either misleading or illegal.

What is wrong in my opinion it is to over glamorize living in spaces like this, the girl seems so campy and happy about everything, he is stating that he missed having dogs, that he lives like that because it is New York City and there’s no other options, she is overly excited over seeing a bathroom he has to share, it is ridiculous. I think there is a lot to learn from videos like this but it is clear that people for the most part live like this due to limited options, not out of pure want.

Well in Asian countries and some European countries they have a lot of apartments that are even smaller than this….so people live in small places and rent out places like this all over the world. It’s nothing new and not unique. I always keep seeing comments of people saying things like they don’t know how landlords can even think of renting something like this….when this is done all over the world and accepted all over the world. I guess people in the US think they are too special or too good to live in small spaces or just don’t pay attention to how other people have to live in other countries. Many of the tiny apartments in Asian countries don’t have their own bathroom or kitchen either….they have to share that. And some Asian rooms they rent out are so small only a mattress fits in and you can’t stand up in it….only sit or lay on the bed…..so this guy actually has it well compared to many people.

When I last lived in New York these type units were listed as bedrooms and they rented for about what parents used to pay for a 2 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn. This particular unit is not even that but rather a closet converted into a bedroom which is honestly sad. A trip to Lisbon, Barcelona, Rome or Milan would easily clarify what should one should be able to get that hard earned buck in terms of buying a property, access to transportation, entertainment, culture, professional opportunities and safety.

My first apartment here was 120 sq ft, basically this with a bathroom. I miss it sometimes. The rent was 900, that’s really what I miss!

I lived in the Bronx for the first 28 years of my life, and then left NYC. I miss the excitement and the plethora of things to do 365/24/7. When I lived in Georgia, I had bigger bathrooms than his walk-in closet of an apartment. There is definitely enough room to fit a twin size bed lengthwise, if he utilized the wall space more. How can he afford to get space-saving furniture items, after paying an arm and a leg for rent? If I had to live tiny, my air-fryer oven, toaster, microwave oven, electric wok and electric tea kettle are non-negotiable appliances.

Can you agree that as a NY’er, you would never agree to this just to live in the city?! You would move to the outer boroughs if needed
@hadeev2 жыл бұрын
@@justkhloevlogging The Bronx is more affordable than Manhattan. Nowadays, people are renting a bedroom in Manhattan for what a studio apartment goes for in the Bronx. I live in Dayton, Ohio, and rent a remodeled 575 sq ft 1 BR apartment for $600.00 monthly. I just started my 3rd year in my place, in a safe neighborhood, and my rent has not gone up one penny since I moved in. Since leaving NY in 1990, I never paid more than $750 per month to live anywhere, including mortgage on a 3 bedroom home I was buying. I don't miss living there, just the variety of things to do. I only miss my family and the few friends I still have there. Most of my friends left years ago, like I did, to get more bang for the buck. I will always love NY, but from a distance.
@justkhloevlogging2 жыл бұрын
@Have Faith in God 2022 yes exactly. Only transplants would do this. I would have to be super wealthy to live in Manhattan to be able to get a decent sized space. No way I’m paying all that.

Yikes…No one (esp in the USA) should have to live like this to survive. I celebrate his creativity, ingenuity, and fortitude….but this is a storage closet. No amount of gentrification/rebranding buzz words can convince me otherwise. I’m all for small living, but this aint it. 😬😬😬

Can i ask what you mean by ‘especially in the USA’??
@carlosdejesus52932 жыл бұрын
@@laurensplants2224 The USA is one of the wealthiest nations on the planet. There is no shortage of space or resources. This was not to imply the USA citizens are any more or less important than other citizens of the world. This was not meant to be judgment of other nations either.

Some people do not want a large home. They like living in small apartments or tiny homes. It should be up to them to live in small places if they like. The only thing that should be mandatory is you must have to have a bathroom with shower. Otherwise it fine with me the way he lives.

Seems to be about the size of a dorm room,a small dorm room.i guess it would work for someone that doesn’t need that much space,has minimal stuff,and really doesn’t need that much or not home that much.i can see it if you have a tight budget and don’t want to spend an obscene amount of money for rent when it’s just you.

That's like living in a small van except it has a much higher ceiling. My living room is bigger than his entire place . I remember looking at a fire trap like his place which was a converted house with just 1 little window. Basically there was a single bed jammed in the corner, a little coffee table (1 ft x 1.5 ft) with a 34 cm (12 inch) tv on it (all you could possibly fit), about 1.5 feet down the side of the bed to squeeze past, a small chair then you were in the kitchenette and the only door out of there. It has really thin walls so you could hear your fellow neighbour fart / talk / cough / snore. You then went down a narrow wooden hallway past several other fire traps and around a corner to the shared toilet / shower. I didn't even check out the toilet / shower. I was like, "I'm outta here - How is this legal ?" It was so bad. You'd have to see it to believe it. I'm still undecided if it was better or worse than another place I looked at which required the lights on during the day to see, smelt mouldy / damp in fine weather. These were back in the late 90's / early 2000's before fire codes were really in place. I wouldn't be surprised if the build on both of those properties was done without approval either.
