As a delivery driver myself, here me out on a few things. * Make sure that buttons, knobs, touchscreens etc works well with different types of gloves. Usually using electrical gloves. It should be tested with new and worn gloves, because as they wear down, you are only left with fibre. * Doors should have a camera sensor for opening. this should be placed at knee height, and easily activated with the legs. we often carry things while trying to open the car, and putting that down on the ground isnt ideal when wet outside. * Make sure the steering wheel is as light as possible to operate, and many different positions that it can be locked in. * The screen should display the rear view camera anytime the van is stopped, then fade out after some speed is gained. Really helps when you get to traffic stops, or start riding. often people on scooters that wizz by. * For more details, PAY UP!

I'm happy to buy one new and convert it if the range is adequate. In 10 years time batteries may have changed enough that I'll fork out for another expensive one and you (or someone) can have this one for a much more reasonable amount of money.
@melanieenmats3 жыл бұрын
It won't be like gasoline vehicles though. You'd probably have to buy a new battery which makes it entirely different from buying a used van. Battery lifetime is way shorter than engine lifespan.
@AWildBard3 жыл бұрын
@@melanieenmats The opposite is true. Battery lifetimes are about double the life of ICE vehicles. It's one of the main reasons battery electric vehicles are cost effective right now. Because even though the cost is higher, they last longer and have significantly less maintenance as well. So the overall cost of ownership over the life of the vehicle is lower. Once the price of batteries goes low enough, there will be fewer and fewer applications for ICE vehicles.

I'm curious what will happen if the van drives over a speed bump or anything similar that would hit the underside of the vehicle, would it damage the battery? Would the battery explode?
@thebrowns53373 жыл бұрын
Just a guess but there is probably a protection plate underneath as this will protect the batteries against damage (therefore reduce the risk of fire etc) as well help with the aerodynamics. If you look at most or diesel vans designed for fleet, certainly around 5 years old (not sure about brand new ones) they don't even have the plastic underpans we are acustomed to on modern cars - lift the bonnet and you see the floor through gaps around the engine. I imagine in your scenario, although hopefully not a speedbump but maybe a rock etc, an internal combustion powered vanwould alsk be at risk as something ljke the fuel pump, oil sump etc could get damaged. Again I think we are looking at worst case scenario and normal use these things can drive over speed bumps, kerbs etc without too much bother. Ground clearance this van doesn't looklower than say a merc sprinter and certainly not lower than a car. Don't see many Teslas exploding due to a speed bump!

The low floor is nice for city deliveries and efficiency, but not for some other uses: rural roads, dirt roads, camper vans. How easy will it be to raise the suspension or build a variant with a higher floor? How about an air setup that raises it when needed - that could be best of both worlds. Not sure if the rollerskate setup makes this sort of thing easier or not.

In Sweden where I live they pour a large amount of salt and gravel on the road during the vinter to prevent accidents, this leads to cracks in the windshield and some unlucky owners of vehicles have to change their windshield every year or more often. It is a nicer designed van guys than what we have on the roads now, but this new EV van is sadly not as nice as the Alpha design, that we saw only a few months ago really. It’s a shame that they’ve gone soo far away soo easily from the look that drew a lot of people to ARRIVAL in the first place. I hope that they will consider releasing the first design as well in the end for the rest of the future aesthetic loving customer base. Do also hope that the bus design (which is in production) will remain the same as that had the same kinda look to the Alpha. That modularity look with the smooth simplified shapes really drew people in, and it would be very disappointing if they just went back to the ‘what we already know’ look.
