Jamie overpowering Brianna in the stable in the books always makes me cry. It is something my dad would have done and a simple but brilliant way to show his daughter she did all she could to survive.

ok all these comments are about the slapping situation that happens with the whole Lizzie miscommunication but can we talk about how the show did not show a proper reconciliation with Jamei and Bree?!?! Like i was WAITING for that after they cam home with the news that Roger was alive!!!! I needed more Jamie and Bree scenes! This man lost 20 years of his life with her! All i needed was for her to verbally say that she forgives him and that he's sorry and would never cause her harm or heartbreak. ughhh that would have been just perfect. And not hating on it, but there were too many Claire and Bree moments in the past. Claire had 20 YEARS with Bree!!!! She needs advise and love from her father who is the most beloved character in this series!!!!!!!

Love the show, but ... this episode - well, sorry, but it was very annoying. People do not keep secrets when comes to life and death situations. Claire knew everything and then she got angry when Jamie bit the wrong man. How ridiculous. Bree asked Clair to keep this secret , and in a way she's justified she didn't know how life was at that time, how law worked and so on. But Clair - OMG - she of all people didn't feel like sharing such a terrible news with Jamie? Well. for me that plot ruined not only the whole episode, but actually the following ones too. :(

The thing is, though, it's not like Claire knew who Brianna's rapist was the entire time and just decided not to tell Jamie. She was finding out the truth right as Jamie was beating Roger, so it's not like she could've done anything to stop that. But Jamie telling Claire that he beat some strange man up might have spared Roger from being sold into slavery.

Yes, thank you!! In last week's episode Claire finds out about Stephen Bonnet while Jamie is already off beating poor Roger to a bloody pulp. When Jamie returns from the encounter with Roger he lies to Claire and tells her he punched a tree. Claire also tells a lie of omission by keeping Stephen Bonnet's identity a secret from Jamie. So no, Claire is not the sole person to blame here. What the episode showcases perfectly is how lies, half truths and secrets cause more harm & damage in the end then simply being forthright & honest right from the start.

Okay seriously people are you hearing yourselves?!?! Regardless whether it was from the books or not the performance between the characters is very realistic. Especially when someone is assaulted they often feel angry about their attacker and sometimes when that person can’t find said attacker or is too scared they would unintentionally take it out on the people that’s closest to them especially family & friends. I’m not saying one was right Than the other cuz Jamie, Claire, Brianna, Lizzie each did some things that they thought were the right thing but are often misguided by their own stuff or just did it the wrong way. So if you wanna keep on complaining bout the characters, actors, or writers of the show then either keep it to yourselves, complain it to the writers or stop watching the show cuz all this back talking, complaining, & whining is getting really old & very annoying & Some Of us don’t want to read or hear more about it.😤

Why do you try to turn Claire into an old lady? She has lost her brightness, her sense of humor, her energy, her curiosity, her capacity for reflection, her sexually daring attitude. Obviously, I don't expect Claire and Jamie to have sex this episode, but where is their love story? Where are the aspects that made Claire an interesting person? And why have Brianna slap her own father? Yes, she didn't grow up with him, but she knows that he is her father. That is crossing a limit and exaggerating the defects of the character. In the end, we end up blaming her for a situation in which she is the main victim. That slap is not in the book. She tries to hit him, but doesn't can not. Visually that slap is shocking and probably doesn't happen in books, because is a taboo that a son hits one of his parents and puts the characters in a place where their relationship is very fractured.

Claire still is all of those things but she's also a mother now. She's spent 20 years as a ghost of herself because she couldn't be with Jamie. She lived in a loveless, sexless marriage for twenty years and that probably informs a lot of how we see Claire now. She and Jamie are in their 50s and are less focused on spontaneous sex romps than they are about building a home with their children and family. I included Fergus as their child because for all intents and purposes, he is. They are grandparents now, the show has to be able to evolve past S1 & S2 if we're going to tell the stories of the next generation. The trouble is, that's supposed to be Bree and Roger. But they just don't have the same chemistry together that Claire and Jamie did and there's no foundation for their relationship - whereas, we saw Claire and Jamie meet, flirt, become friends and then as a young married couple fight and make up. We saw them struggle and get through a lot of things TOGETHER.

Not that it's important but the three of them were all sexually assaulted. During season 1 when Jamie and Claire were beginning their relationship, there were red coats who caught them and one got to Claire. Then she got to kill him with the knife trick she was taught earlier on in the episode. They all have these traumas that are really hard to get through as a family, not to mention individually. Claire almost lost Jamie to Randall, but this ep showed their strength as a family. Brianna & Jamie's scene was an absolute tearjerker. I just wish there are more of them and with Claire.

So much comment here, pro and con, about this episode and here's mine. I thought it played out brilliantly, exhibiting their humanness. Brianna was not being obstinate or "bratty" after learning from Lizzie about Roger's return and eventual fate at Jamie's hand. She was simply overwhelmed with blind rage, which drove her vitriol for Jamie. Jamie, realizing his mistake, was stunned to learn the truth as he fumbled through response. Claire, shocked as it all unfolded, did only what she could, trying to comfort her daughter. Even Ian, realizing his own guilt in the conundrum (putting it mildly), eventually tried to fix things with his proposal, a comic-relief moment as Jamie quickly told him "get off your knee, you idiot." Roger's desperation on the journey was brutal to watch, but very honest as the episode filled the atmosphere, peeling away the tense moments scene by scene to an ending crescendo. So what's not to like here? The raw emotion displayed in this episode was very real to understand, done so well by the writers.

This episode pissed me off. Like how is it Jamie’s fault. Yea I get it, he shouldn’t have lied to Claire about what happened to his hand and also he was wrong for beating roger recklessly, but this is all Bree’s fault. If she had just told them that it was bonnet, none of this would have happened. To Jamie, how could he had known that, the man was roger. He was told roger went back through the stone, he didn’t know who actually raped Bree. The only information he actually got was from Lizzie, and if he had known that it was bonnet who did this to Bree, when Lizzie told him he saw the man, Jamie would’ve have completely realized that, the man Lizzie is talking about isn’t bonnet and he would have at least asked roger who he was and why is he looking for Fraser land..! 🙄

Episode 410 was thrilling, moving and sad. Once again the performances of Sam and Sophie stood out in a very powerful way. However, Brianna!s abusive, aggressive and out of control behavior was too much for me! It was shocking to see the blood on young Ian's face. In my opinion slapping her father and her cousin was totally unnecessary! I honestly believe that the same scene could have been done without the need to slap Jamie and Ian. Claire behaved badly, she should have tried to calm her daughter down, but I think she is just as abusive and aggressive when she gets angry. Neither Jamie nor Ian are responsible for what happened to Brianna! Fortunately, the slaps are not in Diana Gabaldon's book!

In the book, Bree actually punches Ian and is going to take a swing at Jamie but he pins her arms. Ian called her a whore, and Jamie accuses her of falsely crying rape. Since Ian in the books has been sleeping with prostitutes and Indian women, she's upset at the unjust accusation AND the double standard. That's not being bratty. Also, in the book, Claire tries to mediate, but she is feeling especially guilty because the ring was actually Frank's wedding ring, and she wanted to keep it. Finally, Jamie was actually the one who questions if Frank raised her right when Bree refused to marry Ian, when it was Jamie who put him up to proposing.

@@jacquelyndixon2788 Maybe you're right and the slaps are in the book, but I don't remember them in this family discussion. I don't remember Brianna slapping Jamie but she fought him when he tried to show her that she couldn't defend herself against Bonnet and he used strong and insulting words to provoke her. As for Ian I remember he and Brianna had a fight over the marriage proposal. In my opinión if the producers and writers of Outlander have changed the storyline of the books in all seasons, they could have changed this scene so disrespectful for Jamie and Ian. I wonder why they always want to make Jamie look bad, but instead, they did a whole episode just to show us how good father Frank was. This episode was totally different from the book.

Marissa, I understand they change things for TV, but sometimes those details make the actions of the characters we love seem out of character. In this episode, that wasn't so for me. These are people who haven't lived together long enough to really know each other, who come from different times and look at things very differently. Why does Brianna have to respond perfectly here? They all are acting out of some guilt or shame here. I think I related to the anger here more than to any of the other arguments they've shown this season.
@jacquelyndixon2788
@jacquelyndixon2788 5 жыл бұрын
I have sympathy for all of them, and I'm exasperated with all of them. I like that none of them are perfect, it makes them more human. Brianna came clean about the details to her mother, can't fault her for not spilling about being raped to men she barely knows. Plus, even in the show, she was trying to spare her parents from feeling guilty, and to keep Jamie from fighting and maybe being killed by Bonnet. The only time I have not been able to care for Jamie's behavior was all of the brothel and Lallybroch/Laoghaire scenes in season 3.

Jacquelyn Dixon exactly! Even though I did care for the slapping and it made me cringe, a character is not always suppose to react the way you want them to. ELPIONERO CONDOMINION - Your original comment states, and I quote; "I didn't like Claire's attitude towards Jaime, she was the one to blame!!, she didn't tell him the whole truth!!" As you can see you very clearly stated that Claire *was* to blame because she didn't tell Jamie the whole truth. Newsflash, Jamie didn't tell Claire the whole truth either about beating Roger to a bloody pulp. Jamie lied and said he hurt his hand while punching a tree. *Both* characters are guilty of miscommunication as well as telling lies and half-truths to each other. "Claire's attitude" as you put it stems from her anger & frustration at the whole situation and the fact that Jamie brutally beat up the wrong man. You do realize that two people can be madly in love with one other and yet still get angry every now and then right? This includes copping an attitude with your spouse when you're frustrated & upset. It doesn't make Jamie & Claire's love story any less potent. Quite the opposite in fact because it makes their relationship far more realistic. The occasional argument or fight, whether it's warranted or not is normal & healthy behaviour between two married people. The making up is even better and you'll see this happen with Jamie & Claire in the next episode.

Well, that's a totally justifiable emotional response to the situation consider long the fact that she traveled through time, got married, was raped, got pregnant, had to adjust to a way of living that's totally different from what she's used to and then she found out that her husband, whom she believed was back to the 20th century was actually there, looking for her and her father beat him up and then her cousin sold him to the slaves. Now, I think we can all agree on the fact that all of this wasn't Jamie's fault. He believed that Roger was the man who raped her daughter and he became aggressive. Totally understandable. (even thought I don't like how he handled many things in this past episode but whatever...) Still, in that situation, you can't just ask her to see things clearly and logically, you just can't. I find it so funny when people want characters to always be perfectly well-behaved, and situations to play out where everyone does the best, most contemporary and "woke" thing in the situation... The thing is, flawed characters are what drive a story. Everyone is flawed in real life, and making perfect characters in fiction would be so boring! And if you want perfect situations where everything is about learning a lesson in the most seamless way, go watch The Brady Bunch, cause that's as close as you're going to get. Meanwhile, I'll stick with the drama and intrigue of this layered, complicated, frustrating and satisfying, brilliant story.

I think the acting, the actors and the books are wonderful! They simply couldn't be better. However, I will stop watching simply because the writers have decided to veer so far from the books I love so much. Making decisions to basically 'make up' stories that didn't exist in the books was unnecessary. The books were wonderful just as they are, and yes sometimes graphic and maybe they didn't follow what today's society thinks at this very moment is socially or politically acceptable. Yet what happens in the book is very real and true & the way things happen still & even more so the way things happened in that era. This is why I've decided not to watch Outlanders anymore which is really sad to me because I love the books, I love the actors I love the acting. I don't think it possible that a better cast for these characters could exist. I believe so many things that have to do with women's rights yet I also am a realist and not only did these things that happened in the book happen then...they still happen now in our own era. To ignore something so important to acknowledge did not strike me as a great choice. It wouldn't have had to be very graphic to have brought across the same point and still stayed with the actual storyline of the book. It is just a story book after all and all of the people of every movement that think it should be more sensitive should take a look at a lot of other shows or maybe even the newspaper which show absolutely no sensitivity and add no value to the story being told. I hope people do keep watching Outlanders, but for me, I wish it followed the storyline of the books I love so much in a more Real and True way. The other reason I find it really sad I won't be watching anymore is because they're a gorgeous and talented cast. If I had not read the books I would probably still watch. I wish them all great success!

JUNE entiendo tu desepción pero yo tambien amo los 8 libros, pero creo que el trabajo maraviloso de los actores, y la adaptación en general es muy buena. no te prives de seguir disfrutando de la maravillosa serie.

Am I the only one who wanted Jamie to find out how getting the ring back contributed to her assault? I don't want to punish Jamie, just help explain why Bree would have put herself in jeopardy even if she didn't fully realized how grave. I feel like Jamie would have understood since he's done some pretty dangerous stuff for love himself.

Victoria Maidana, how is Jamie not to blame?? He beat up Roger and had Young Ian get rid of him, which is why Roger is in danger right now. How is that not Jamie's fault?

What is wrong with you all ? You’re mad because bree hit jamie ? Try to understand her, she was abused and never really let her anger out until that moment. She was just so angry at everything and let everything out on jamie.

This is the episode that ruined Outlander. The Brianna character is so repulsive. She destroyed the show. She supposedly came back to help her parents and instead she fucked up everything. This was the best show on Earth until Brianna came back

I’m sorry but after Brianna abusing HER FATHER and cousin I can’t watch this anymore until the season is over. She’s just too much for me. She didn’t keep the same energy with Lizzie or Roger at all. People show you their true feeling during a misunderstanding, and this stands true for Brianna. Can’t stand the girl.

Do you remember the punch Dougal gave Rubert in the Wedding episode ..........Brianna is also a Mackenzie by blood, Her grandmother is a sister to Dougal Yeah It was a little shocking but if you look at it from an acting angle Sophie studied Jamie, Claire, and Dougal's tempers, you have to give her credit for that

Has no one here ever had a fight with someone they cared about? With their parents? Has no one ever lost their temper before? I loved my father and mother bothe dearly, but I remember when I was young, I'd lose my temper, and my mom had the same temper and we'd really lock horns. After she died, there was a time I got so pissed at my dad I shoved at him way harder than I meant to. It's like Claire said, sometimes people say (and do) things in anger that they don't mean.

Can't wait to see this season!! Waiting for DVD. Wish so much Starz could fit my budget. I love the books and the first 3 seasons have been amazing adaptations. I like that things can be a bit different. It leaves room for surprises. Also, I understand that a huge book has to be condensed into a show. Each episode needs to be appreciated as a single movie though. Look at the sets, costumes, and brilliant acting! Bravo Starz and team.🤩🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
