Based on the classic novel of the same name, the international thriller is set at the height of the Cold War years of the mid-20th Century. George Smiley (Gary Oldman), a disgraced British spy, is rehired in secret by his government -- which fears that the British Secret Intelligence Service, a.k.a. MI-6, has been compromised by a double agent working for the Soviets.

Darn, it's been over 10 years already... 😅 One of the better movies I've seen, but the Alec Guinness-led TV-miniseries (which I just saw) is superior in most respects, although that's kind of cheating when you compare the running times. Hope I'll get ahold of the original English books soon!

The original is the best. Alec Guinness is Smiley. But Gary oldman did a great job.

What is with tge guy running in the street shooting? The only actual shooting I can remember in the book or miniseries was the Soldiers shooting Prideau as he was trying to escape.

Yes, the first bar that repeats itself before the violin starts. This one they use for Tinker Tailor Soilder Spy, is from the Wolfman with Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt and Anthony Hopkins.
