Upon my first shroom trip, my depression disappeared overnight. It shifted my perspective on the way I viewed myself. It showed me that I was stuck in one way of thinking. This was unhealthy mentally and it was affecting me physically. Within 6 months of the trip, my chronic lower back pain disappeared, I'm sure it was due to tension and stress, and hasn't returned.

So surreal -- one thing I find encouraging is that whatever commercialization occurs, mushrooms will always be a DIY option if you so choose. And that includes whatever spiritual relation you have with it. Less criminalization can only be a good thing... but the medicalization/capitalism stuff... we'll see! As someone who found the shroomery as a teenager, got myself a spore syringe from sporeworks, and have been having my own weird lil relationship with psilocybin ever since, I agree, its all very surreal. PS I found your channel just from gourmet/medicinal mushrooms but I obviously had a prior interest. Does anyone ever get interested in mycology NOT from psilocybin shrooms? Seems to be the overwhelming majority 😃

My opinion is that cubensis should be legalized in the US and let the people choose.where they obtain it. There will be people who are quick to jump on big pharma and then there are people that want to get them from a trusted sourcem who put their heart and soul into it. Wishful thinking.

$200 an ounce, I’m surprised it’s not more. Last time I bought a zip of mushrooms. It was about $200 only because they were out of season and wild. I don’t live very far from Oakland. There is a church you could become part of, kind of like the same deal with the old-school medical marijuana cards. You fill out their paperwork become a member of the “church” and you can have access to any psychoactive plant. In legally due to it being part of your religion the prices for their mushrooms are ridiculous some $50 an eighth or more 400 ounces so when you stay $3600 for a pound I’d say that’s pretty joog. I know a guy right now growing his own, and he charges about five grand for a pound. Granted, some of the fruits were as big as my arm.

The molecules change according the way they are grown. The timenand intimacy mom n pop growers provide makes the fungus come alive. Do u want fungus that is like a well cared for cow, or do u want slaughter house industrial cattle product. Similar to Vitamin C, lab made C is not alive, very minimal benefits. Plant based Vitamin C that has had no heat applied is alive, the benefits are through the roof. Plants and animals grown with love have been proven to be more healthy than a food from death mills.

I think in theory it might be a good idea but I really don't trust people to have the respect necessary to handle this. I worry it'll just be handled like the cannabis industry in Canada, more rules and less respect for the medicine. Mushrooms are not recreational, they demand respect and I just don't see society as a whole being able to use them accordingly. It will likely be seen by capitalism as another hot new commodity to market and see how much money they can suck out of it, just like the cannabis industry. Don't get me wrong, I don't think people should be getting in trouble for mushrooms but having mushrooms enter the conversation as a commercial product strikes me as wrong. The cannabis industry focused so heavily on profit that 4+ years later, customers and patients still can't reliably get the same product each visit. Considering most people don't have the discipline to grow mushrooms, we are going to not only supply them to anyone of age but also disrespect their origin as medicine by legalizing it as a recreational product? why not just de-criminalize and let those who want to use it, use it? Seems like money is the main motivator and I just don't know if this is really a positive step.

can't help but feeling weird about this. I been using shrooms for more than 7years and they changed my life for the better and I can't imagine these things being part of a huge commercial thing. All those people sound more like commercials and entrepreneurs than people that actually understand mushrooms... It's all numbers and money and I fucking hate it. "look at our pretty and easily digestible graphic design, our neat neon sign, see how much money? so impressive right?" like a carrot on a stick. It's good that it'll become more widely available as I really believe it could help so many people but I can also forsee lots of cases of the "reckless type" of people going balls to the wall with those and feed psychedelic's bad rep. So yeah wait and see I guess. I just hope it'll be done right. People need to first be educated VERY WELL. You don't fuck around with them mushmush Grow kits is all we really need tbh, if you care enough to tend to them for a few months, you show your care and respect and ought to be the kind of person that benefits from those instead of going full nightmare mode.

@@justinfranchi5936 Well to be fair I've experimented a lot of different doses. Spaced out big trips work fine but it's kinda like "positive trauma" past one point and so abstract you can't always bring everything back. After years of tripping w shrooms and acid I never had a bad experience and learned a lot on myself but I feel I'm coming to a closure or at least will slow down a lot on the big doses like in my early beginnings. Small and microdoses is where i'm at now. which is very close to your "popping small amounts on a daily basis" except I take em 1day on 2 days off. It sure sound bad when you pair it with that "starbuck, hustle, supplement" bullshit but that kind of practices genuinely pushes you in the right direction without any risks of freaking people out so it might be good for that kind of people lmao. Like for example I'll minidose a 0.5 in the weekend to paint, read and have a walk or microdose a 0.2 to quiet my eternal remnants of social anxiety as well as canalize my annoying adhd brain. but I don't have time to actually trip anymore. I came from very very far (ackward anxious type) now I'm percieved as pretty confident even though I'm still a little anxious inside , the goal of psychs is obviously to not need them anymore does that sound better to you? haha

I get where you're coming from, but not everyone has the time, space, or skill to grow medicine at their home. Some people don't have a home they can grow in. Some people just can't keep things alive (brown thumbs). Having safe access to high quality medicine of know quality and potency would be beneficial to a lot of people that wouldn't be able to produce their own. That said, I believe personal use production should be legal for all adults. I feel that way about pretty much all substances though. As long as it's being used responsibly I don't have an issue with a person using anything to make their life better. We aren't still living in Puritan times are we?

@@kevinpopescu9741 it sounds like you have some sort of superiority complex when it comes to mushrooms. mushrooms are mushrooms regardless of if you grow them, get them from a friend, or get them from a large company. to sit here and try to degrade others for how they acquire their mushrooms is exactly the opposite of how you should react. like i said it sounds like you just have a superiority complex, like "oh you had to buy your shrooms. sit peasant, youre in the presence of a master grower". it is beyond foolish to act like you can not benefit from mushrooms unless you grow them yourself. and your argument is completely garbage because im willing to bet you dont grow your own food or slaughter your own animals. just because you can grow something doesnt make it realistic for everyone to grow them. use brain please. also give anything to a large population of people, and there will be a group of people who will abuse it or act like fools, mushrooms are not special in this regard, so once again bad argument.

“I am old, older than thought in your species, which is itself fifty times older than your history. Though I have been on earth for ages I am from the stars. My home is no one planet, for many worlds scattered through the shining disc of the galaxy have conditions which allow my spores an opportunity for life. The mushroom which you see is the part of my body given to sex thrills and sun bathing, my true body is a fine network of fibers growing through the soil. These networks may cover acres and may have far more connections than the number in a human brain. My mycelial network is nearly immortal-only the sudden toxification of a planet or the explosion of it’s parent star can wipe me out. By means impossible to explain because of certain misconceptions in your model of reality all my mycelial networks in the galaxy are in hyperlight communication through space and time. The mycelial body is as fragile as a spider’s web but the collective hypermind and memory is a vast historical archive of the career of evolving intelligence on many worlds in our spiral star swarm. Space, you see, is a vast ocean to those hardy life forms that have the ability to reproduce from spores, for spores are covered with the hardest organic substance known. Across the aeons of time and space drift many spore forming life-forms in suspended animation for millions of years until contact is made with a suitable environment. Few such species are minded, only myself and my recently evolved near relatives have achieved the hyper-communication mode and memory capacity that makes us leading members in the community of galactic intelligence. How the hyper-communication mode operates is a secret which will not be lightly given to humans. But the means should be obvious: it is the occurrence of psilocybin and psilocin in the biosynthetic pathways of my living body that opens for me and my symbiots the vision screens to many worlds. You as an individual and Homo sapiens as a species are on the brink of the formation of a symbiotic relationship with my genetic material that will eventually carry humanity and earth into the galactic mainstream of the higher civilizations. Since it is not easy for you to recognize other varieties of intelligence around you, your most advanced theories of politics and society have advanced only as far as the notion of collectivism. But beyond the cohesion of the members of a species into a single social organism there lie richer and even more baroque evolutionary possibilities. Symbiosis is one of these. Symbiosis is a relation of mutual dependence and positive benefits for both species involved. Symbiotic relationships between myself and civilized forms of higher animals have been established many times and in many places throughout the long ages of my development. These relationships have been mutually useful; within my memory is the knowledge of hyperlight drive ships and how to build them. I will trade this knowledge for a free ticket to new worlds around suns younger and more stable than your own. To secure an eternal existence down the long river of cosmic time, I again and again offer this agreement to higher beings and thereby have spread throughout the galaxy over the long millenia. A mycelial network has no organs to move the world, no hands; but higher animals with manipulative abilities can become partners with the star knowledge within me and if they act in good faith, return both themselves and their humble mushroom teacher to the million worlds to which all citizens of our starswarm are heir.” - The Mushroom Speaks, by Terrence Mckenna

Set, setting and your personal biology will affect your journey to a potentially large degree. Maybe more than strain variation effects. That said, I've found wood lovers to be beneficial with less unpleasant physical effects. That can vary though, as wood loving mushrooms (cyan's etc) can cause temporary paralysis. I haven't experienced that, but I know someone that has. That could be extremely heavy in a trip. Not what I'd want for most people to have to endure. I'd also guess that the growth medium and any mineral supplementation might affect the felt effects of a given strain. Growing conditions may play a factor too. Having access to their fancy lab gear would provide a lot of insight if a person were to be diligent in their testing.

Psilocybin isn't the only indole (psychadelic compound) contained in a mushroom... There are others such as baeocystin... Since real scientific study has just began on the chemical makeup/composistion of hallucinogenic mushrooms, it's not yet understood what role these other compounds play or how they interact with each other... We do know that different "strains" have different % of those compounds, even more so among species outside of psilocybe cubensis, so it's very possible different mushrooms have some differing effects. "Set & Setting" are important and should never be disregarded... especially considering it's one of the only variables we have control over.

My fear is that mushroom production/sales once legalized, similar to cannabis, will be screwed up by local and state govt. Colorado seemed to have done it right for the most part, but California (where i live) completely screwed it all up, way too many different types of "licenses" with exorbitant fees, way to highly taxed, just massively over regulated, so now, there is even more black market cannabis than legal. As well, Cali's laws were written in a way that favored, after a couple of years (now) to favor only large multi million/billion dollar operations, largely forcing out the small "mom and pop" operations. I guess we will see, but it's ashamed when a natural remedy such as cannabis and mushrooms, which essentially are completely safe, the govt. starts to mandate crazy expensive testing, where there has never been testing, and have never had problems. I guess it just goes to show that the govt. can screw up anything.

There was a very strange feature in this case, strange because of its extremely rare occurrence. This man had once been brought to the scaffold in company with several others, and had had the sentence of death by shooting passed upon him for some political crime. Twenty minutes later he had been reprieved and some other punishment substituted; but the interval between the two sentences, twenty minutes, or at least a quarter of an hour, had been passed in the certainty that within a few minutes he must die. I was very anxious to hear him speak of his impressions during that dreadful time, and I several times inquired of him as to what he thought and felt. He remembered everything with the most accurate and extraordinary distinctness, and declared that he would never forget a single iota of the experience. ‘About twenty paces from the scaffold, where he had stood to hear the sentence, were three posts, fixed in the ground, to which to fasten the criminals (of whom there were several). The first three criminals were taken to the posts, dressed in long white tunics, with white caps drawn over their faces, so that they could not see the rifles pointed at them. Then a group of soldiers took their stand opposite to each post. My friend was the eighth on the list, and therefore he would have been among the third lot to go up. A priest went about among them with a cross: and there was about five minutes of time left for him to live. ‘He said that those five minutes seemed to him to be a most interminable period, an enormous wealth of time; he seemed to be living, in these minutes, so many lives that there was no need as yet to think of that last moment, so that he made several arrangements, dividing up the time into portions-one for saying farewell to his companions, two minutes for that; then a couple more for thinking over his own life and career and all about himself; and another minute for a last look around. He remembered having divided his time like this quite well. While saying good- bye to his friends he recollected asking one of them some very usual everyday question, and being much interested in the answer. Then having bade farewell, he embarked upon those two minutes which he had allotted to looking into himself; he knew beforehand what he was going to think about. He wished to put it to himself as quickly and clearly as possible, that here was he, a living, thinking man, and that in three minutes he would be nobody; or if somebody or something, then what and where? He thought he would decide this question once for all in these last three minutes. A little way off there stood a church, and its gilded spire glittered in the sun. He remembered staring stubbornly at this spire, and at the rays of light sparkling from it. He could not tear his eyes from these rays of light; he got the idea that these rays were his new nature, and that in three minutes he would become one of them, amalgamated somehow with them. ‘The repugnance to what must ensue almost immediately, and the uncertainty, were dreadful, he said; but worst of all was the idea, ‘What should I do if I were not to die now? What if I were to return to life again? What an eternity of days, and all mine! How I should grudge and count up every minute of it, so as to waste not a single instant!’ He said that this thought weighed so upon him and became such a terrible burden upon his brain that he could not bear it, and wished they would shoot him quickly and have done with it.’

I think pot and shrooms should have their own special category as medicinal/recreational. I also think we should have small growers and large facilities, just like we have with beer and pot. Still keep small independent growers in business as a cottage industry and have the giants who mass produce because psilocybin is necessary for our evolution and we need a mass infusion to shift consciousness.

big places like this have to be more mindful of their waste streams, I understand they have to treat the residual substrate/grain spawn like its a dangerous controlled substance, but they could probably compost it in a big metal shed and test the compost after a while to determine its psilocybin content, and while their at it use compostable plastics even though there are many problems with that, its still better than petro-plastics.

Remember any Species that produces an Alkaloid needs the precusors necessary to generate high % of the Alkaloid ones growing for. As for psilocybin, the amino acid Tryptophan is absolutely necessary, and increasing this within the substrate will benefit the Alkaloid content of the end product. Without understanding the Bioconversion that occurs within the biochemical pathway within a species, We cannot hope to increase the potency of the harvest. Biochemical conversion is the future for many many different products, not just mushrooms, but bioplastics, and much more.

Can I just say, honestly, commercial production of mushrooms is not only unnecessary it's detrimental overall. Mushrooms are very easy to grow yourself with minimal to no experience, and even easier these days with new methods that are self enclosed and ready to go. Earth will never run out of psilocybin mushroom spores and anyone who want to partake can easily supply themselves for life with small preparation and set up. Man doesn't provide mushrooms nature does. And she does so abundantly.
