Here is the process we follow for our making our master's mix for our production blocks. At maximum production, we do this twice a day, three times a week, resulting in about 600 blocks each week. These 10lbs blocks will go on to typically yield 2-3lbs of mushrooms on the first flush.

As a former electrician, I strongly suggest you install, or hire someone to install the correct size disconnect switch between the breaker and the substrate mixer. Ever time you use the breaker to turn the power on and off you are causing arcing within the breaker and reducing it functionality as a safety device designed to protect the equipment, wiring and personnel. Also you maybe giving your insurance copy a reason to not pay a claim if there is a fire and the insurance inspector finds no disconnect switch and the breaker was used to turn the equipment on and off. Loving your style and thorough teaching technique.

@@LMBee00 Yeah man, electronics component manufacturing requires totaly clean environments for the lithographic masks or a dust spec can ruin a chip (funily enough, this actually fixed a short curcuit bug in an early Atari / Commodore prototype CPU). What he's doing is making the medium that the actual food grows on. They _have_ to chemically, heat treat, autoclave, etc. the medium after what he's making or poisonous or undesirable fungi can take over the colony and make other mushrooms growing in it poisonous in the process. So it does become sterile, just later. You're basically saying a nursery worker has to wear a hair net while preparing soil for food crops to get planted in - even though it'll be sterilized. It's just overkill and unnecessary.

Saludos.

@dialohurt4333 usually steam it. From what I remember, there are tables for calculating sterilization time for fermentation broths using Richard's calculations which should be a good starting point - you can probably find the tables on google/scribd (Richard, 1968). There's a minimum time to reach 3 Sigma and anything above that time runs the risk of degrading your nutrients (not sure how that "wood" affect oak though).

That's why he doesn't work. He does something he loves that produces a much better result than work. Money is only factored in where it has to be in this man's routine. No one loves a job, but you can love something enough to produce the same end goal that a job produces. This is not a job that he made for himself. He is living. That is freedom. There's plenty more factors to freedom and other aspects of life. This man is in no way shackled.... and I doubt he ever will be. One day, I'll let go of my fear and insecurity and do something meaningful too ^^v. Good shit Mike. If you are truely joyful and do something meaningful to you, then you are free. Helping others, and getting paid is a bonus, depending on your lifestyle and situation. The complexity of joy and freedom depends on so many things but can be viewed as obtainable through one lens... that's your own.

@bmassey-

The desire to be rich is probably the most foolish reason to do anything. Probably missing the point of creating profit out of joy if that is the largest factor. Also, probably a big reason why many wealthy people are just as depressed as poor people. Money, or wealth in effective currency, should be a byproduct - not a main focal point of what you love to do. Everything falls apart if your focus is too narrow, I believe. If you spend all of your time making money, or delegating jobs... how will you have time to spend it in a meaningful way? Who will you spend the little time you have with, when you are "finished" earning "enough" money? None of us are taking any amount of money past our death.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:03 🍄 *They use 100% oak hardwood pellets as a base for mushroom substrate.* 01:21 🚜 *They've transitioned from mixing substrate by hand to using an old Chinese substrate mixer, improving efficiency.* 04:15 💰 *You can find hardwood pellets for mushroom substrate at local hardware stores, online, or even local feed shops.* 08:29 🌾 *They use soybean hulls as a supplement for their fast fruiting strains to enhance mushroom yield.* 11:27 🌿 *Gypsum (calcium sulfate) is added to the substrate to promote strong mushroom mycelium growth and improve aeration.* 15:10 🛠️ *They use a machine to mix substrate efficiently, reducing thelabor-intensive aspects of the process.* 25:07 🍄 *They achieve a high biological efficiency rate of around 100% for converting dry substrate into fresh mushrooms, thanks to their careful process and supplementation.* 27:52 🔄 *Folding and rolling the bags is part of the process before loading them into the sterilizer for further preparation.* 28:05 🍄 *Grain spawn is added to the bags of hardwood sawdust substrate for mushroom cultivation to allow mycelium growth and eventually mushroom production.* 28:54 🛍️ *Filling the bags about halfway allows for proper folding and closing for sterilization and later inoculation.* 29:24 🏭 *The bags used for substrate production have a 0.5 micron filter patch, suitable for fast-colonizing fruiting substrates like oyster mushrooms.* 30:05 🍄 *For shiitake and similar mushrooms, a 0.2 micron filter patch is recommended due to their longer colonization period and the need for sterile technique during inoculation.* 31:14 🍄 *Filter patch bags are essential for certain mushroom species like shiitake but are not required for others that can be grown on pasteurized substrates in different containers.* Made with HARPA AI

Mike, you might also want to get a good detailed city water analytic . They are very inexpensive and will tell you a lot about the water quality and give you a baseline for comparing down the road. I would also recc. de-chlorinating all your process water. Chlorine and fungi don't play well together as you know but furthermore, any time you heat the city chlorinated water, you are prompting corrosion of all your metals. Since you don't use a lot of stainless steel, this might be a $$ consideration down the road. Great looking process by the way. Being a microbiologist and having served faithfully in the brewing business for 20+ years, I can spot success when I see it. The devil is in the detail! DD

get a little bit of a smaller bucket, cut the bottom out and then put your bag around the outside. It will really help make it easier to bag up the substrate, just pour into the bucket and then lift the bucket to have a clean bag filled. Or use the 5 gallon bucket and larger bags. I do this with bagging aggregate at my landscape supply company and it works wonders!

Hey, love the videos.... As an electrician I would humbly suggest getting a starter for that machine, using the breaker to turn it on and off, is hard for the motor and the breakers. Breakers are not really meant to be used as switches. If I were local I would offer to do it for the cost of the materials and a tour, but I am in Texas.
