I have gone to tj for dental work( still in progress) i dont like tj though. Its so sad to me to see the needy people and animals, and so i avoid it. I like taking my car because i feel safer. We just go to a dentist that offers the medical pass. My experience with dentist has been good so far.

$132 is a good price. Yep, American dentists want to do your whole mouth. Usually they are the youngsters who just graduated and need to payoff loans. I like going to OLDER senior dentists. IT'S so clean in their offices, better than MY Dentists office.

I had a lot of medical treatments in Querètaro by very reputable doctors this year. I had the best experience ever. No waiting no insurance. I had every doctors whatsapp and could talk to them anytime. The care I received was a hundred times better than my dad got here recently for a knee replacement

I live in Arizona, and I've had some dental work done in Nogales, Mexico. I've saved thousands getting my work done in Mexico. The dentist office I visited in Mexico was literally right on the street that I entered on when walking into Nogales, so didn't even need a taxi.

I took my dog to Tijuana for an ACL repair surgery. They did a great job, and my Daisy had no complications. The cost was about $800 USD and in the US it was going to be over $3K. The following pin removal surgery was less than $100 about 6 months later. The vet called regularly when we got home to check in on her recovery. I would go back in a heartbeat if my pup ever needed another surgery like this.

Just an extra hint: I personally use Uber in TJ, never felt unsafe and cheaper than local taxis. I've done a lot of work with my knee there as well. My son gets Physiotherapy through Fisiosport in TJ. As a native San Diegien I have never driven across the border. I also haven’t been here in 30 years. We now go every week for the past month. The benefits of going to TJ for the treatment of rehabilitation for my sons ankle injury has been well worth it. I just wish I saw this video prior to going . Finding an orthopedist would have been my next step a few months ago

Hey I just went to TJ for a deep cleaning for dentist… here in LA price was $2000 and in TJ very professional Dentist $260 ! Definitely worth it !

After I sent the message, I remembered I forgot to say where I go in Mexico. It is a little town Los Alogodones. It is just southwest of Yuma, Arizona and you should see the line of Americans going in daily for Medical treatments of all kinds. The Local Native American Tribe own land on the border and have a parking lot and you can pay to park your car there and it is well worth the price. When we do go, we leave where we are staying very early and get to the border as early as possible. Such wonderful people there too and always so helpful. My cousin lives in Brownsville, Texas and he goes across the border to Mexico for everything including haircuts and he also loves Mexico and the people. @@GarethLeonard

This is the video I needed a few months ago when I was in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and walked past a dentist office. I'd heard stories about medical, but not dental, stuff in Mexico being cheap. I was due for a regular cleaning, so I popped in to ask if they spoke English (yes, of course), when their next opening was (in a few days), and how much it costs (~$46 USD). I went back to my hotel and did some research, checked reviews, etc. before deciding to do it. That dentist cleaned better than some I've had in the US and spoke perfect English! Turned out he had lived in the US for a few years and had many U.S. patients in Playa. He had a solo practice and did everything himself, including my basic cleaning! In the US, that never happens unless they're short staffed. The best part was no new patient Xray requirement that costs an arm in the US. I saved so much money with that dentist, it practically paid for my flights! I had a very similar experience with a dental cleaning in Budapest, Hungary, where I learned Hungary is the choice destination for medical and dental tourism for people in neighboring European countries. I think that cleaning was ~$35 USD in 2017. Hope my stories encourage others to consider this. And Gareth, I'm blown away you haven't had travel insurance! I have used World Nomads for years and have had many claims paid. It covers all travel and medical incidents for less than medical insurance alone costs in the US!

I have been to Guadalajara with my daughter for a procedure and Tijuana with my sister. Both times were excellent experiences. Also there is a delicious steak house in Tijuana that is absolutely amazing. It is right across the street from the big hotel we stayed at.

I don’t know if Mexican health providers are required to carry malpractice insurance like they do in the US. If they don’t carry it, that might explain their less costly prices.🤷🏾‍♀️😉 The trick is to come across an ethical, skilled doctor with formidable aesthetics for the ones in the beauty industry.😜 And if they are like that, I wonder how long they’ll want to remain in Tijuana.😅

As someone who has dealt with health issues for over fifteen years now and has had lots of frustrating experiences with doctors here in the U.S., I'm amazed at not only the price point for treatments there, but also the ease of access to specialists. Thank you for making this video. My husband is actually from Mexico but he’s very worried about going down there because of the cartels. But we both need a lot of dental work. We do have dental insurance but as you know $1500 a year per person in our family doesn’t cover much maybe a couple cavities. I just had two root canals done and needed two crowns, and between the cost of the two crowns, and the two root canals with insurance I was still out of pocket almost $4000! No more I think we’re going to come to the clinic, so thank you so very much for making this video. It put my mind at ease.

As she has been to Latin America on visits over the years and speaks Spanish due to her time there, she went to Colombia, stayed in a lovely condo on the beach, and had the work done AND the condo stay for about $2500!!

They don't care about you or me, in fact it's bad for business to target foreigners. Fact is Tj is a great city with great people that gets a bad rap from media. I live in Mexico (city) and unfortunately our country used to have (or still has) terrible fame for doing "botched" surgeries because as the doctors told you, that's what makes the news. In most countries you will have good and bad doctors and people fail in doing the proper research and just focus on the price. But Mexico has really incredible and world trained and respected doctors, specialists and surgeons. And theres also the aspect of "accessibility to anyone"... anyone who can pay for it or has proper insurance can go directly to the specialist and be treated effectively and on time. I can't imagine having to wait years for treatment if my general practitioner would't or couldn't sent me to a specialist. I've had both plastic and functional/medical surgeries here in mexico City and my doctors are increible. I hope many people see this video!

Medical tourism is HUGE in Colombia and very safe. I do all my medical needs in Colombia and it's very affordable. Most of my doctors are American trained. I started going 3 years ago because I was so broken health wise and couldn't afford treatment in the United States. I'm currently in the process of selling my property in the USA and relocating full time to Colombia

I just had plastic surgery at New City Medical Plaza's hospital on Dec 5. It was the largest surgery I've ever had and the best care I've ever received. Unlike in the states, it's not considered an ambulatory surgery. I stayed overnight at the hospital (very reasuring to me). Then, the best part, I was able to go to a care house where I had 24/7 nurse support and three hot meals a day with two snacks, vitals monitored, medicines distributed, help showering and dressing my incisions, and even post surgical lymphatic drainage massage. They were in constanst communication with my surgeon as I healed and I could ask follow up questions any time. Plus I had transport to and from the care house to my post op follow up. It was cheaper than staying at a nice hotel! I can't say enough good things about my experience. Even my primary care doctor back home commented on the fantastic work.

I went to Tijuana 7/8 years ago for gastric sleeve surgery. 4000 paid to a us company to set it up. Got tired of regular health insurance making me jump through so many hoops to try and get the surgery done. All went well. 100 plus lbs still gone all this time later.

However, same with treatments, you really have to be careful on where you go (I could ask doctor friends for reputable places for you).

@@GarethLeonardI’ve been going to a pharmacy in Tijuana called Amsterdam for 20 years now. They have everything, from Retin A cream to homeopathic natural. And they r walking distance, in the plaza that’s right by the PedWest entrance, next to dental brush dental office. They are a small family owned pharmacy that only stock the higher end quality medications from the best laboratories. I was buying from a reputable chain pharmacy b4 but started to develop stomach aches after taking the medication. Long story short.. I learned that many of the chain pharmacies have contracts with the cheaper laboratories, some even make their own medications and don’t always use the highest quality ingredients because profit is their top priority. Were as a smaller independently owned pharmacy is free to stock their shelves with the better quality meds. So i would try to find a smaller independent pharmacy that’s trustworthy, or if you do buy from the chains just make sure not to buy their own brand & choose the better known laboratories.

Myself with health insurance, I still go to Tj for medical treatment. Appointments are fast and doctors go to the root of the cause rather that just prescribing Tylenol. At least my doctor does. And they are thorough with the questions and know what exams you need. Rather than ordering a bunch of exams you don't really need. Pretty straight forward and economic.

The surgeon is absolutely right. Too many aesthetic surgeons without training pass as plastic surgeons in TJ, and the governing board still certifies them because they’ve paid and pass a test. Other red flags, especially for surgery: - Doctors advertising on instagram and requesting pictures and a deposit before meeting a patient. - If your first time meeting the surgeon is on the day of surgery. - The clinic is not affiliated with a hospital which has critical care services backup. Ask about their contingency plan. -The use of influencers: the paying or compensating patients is unethical. - Often luring patients with “special” offers, prize contests, raffles. -The doc or coordinator cancels on you without a phone call and full explanation. - They ghost you or give you the run around. If at any point you have to chase them around for answers…run away! - Overall impression of the clinic and staff: Is there a resuscitation cart nearby and visible? Does the front / reception area look sharp but the rear looks drab? The primary reasons for post-op compilations are infections. If staff has a cavalier attitude about patients’ observations, run!

Garett, it would also be useful for you to make a “follow up” video of actual patients who had problems when something unexpected happened, either DURING a procedure or later, when they leave. (eg excess bleeding, post op infections which MAY/COULD develop AFTER the patient returns home, or any other “something”) The post-op problems are sadly, a reality which can occur anywhere in the wold, no matter the excellence of care. Just a thought….

Thanks for sharing great information! I have never thought of medical tourism and was always afraid of the quality of care. I learned much watching this. I've decided that I will definitely explore my options and start treating my self to better dental care instead just suffering with what I can afford in the U.S. with dental insurance. I have friends who go to TJ to see the Dr and Dentist and I never have to be honest, I pay my dentist out of pocket in K-Town LA and it isn’t very expensive and have insurance with Kaiser/ObamaCare as I’m self employed and everything has been fine but at one point I did have one of those HMO/PPO plans and it was a nightmare getting referrals so the system in TJ seems very straightforward and accessible. You just have the task of doing your own due diligence but now with access to so much information, it isn’t difficult and we do it nonetheless. Hoping you’re all better now, can’t believe you’re going through that😬

I've travelled to Tijuana 3x this year, great care at reasonable prices. I had dental insurance through my work, though it was capped at 1,500 per year. They did what you said, where they recommended a whole bunch of work, when I needed a root canal to which they referred me to a specialist and quickly my benefit was used up for the year prior to the crowns. So I travelled to Tijuana and got very excellent care. I felt very safe and took one of those taxi's. One thing, is to print out the directions to your Dr or take a screen shot, incase your phone plan cuts out and you can't use google maps. Another is to find a well known business near your dental office.

That's a great reminder about printing directions. The first time I drive into TJ with my dog ( vet visit) my phone service cut out I was freaking out. Luckily I knew the general area and drove there until service came back. What I do now is download maps offline. It can be done in Google and apple maps.

One vet tech I worked with left to go work in Mexico. She said it was better pay and a lot more freedom in treatment of pets. I've noticed that pet care is goig the way of human care. More insurance, more costs, shorter appointments, and clients feeling not heard.

So true! My kid has an issue but was scheduled for 3 months out for the specialist. I tried calling around and its 3-6 months some aren't even adding more patients! You can have insurance and still pay a fortune especially dental--which defeats the purpose of having insurance. The same happens with Americans traveling by bus in groups to get cheaper prescriptions in Canada. It makes no sense!

Everything in this video is word for word my experience of going to Mexico for treatment. I'm in Phoenix so a 3 hour drive. I can get an appointment for a root canal in a few days. 3 months in the US for an appointment. In Mexico I got a root canal and cap in 1 day. In the US root canal is one dentist, cap 2 weeks later by a different dentist. I did the US thing because I have Medicare dental. Much less, very little, pain in Mexico. Lots of pain in US. I go to Laser Dental in Nogales, 1 block walk from border. Their equipment is very modern, much better than I see in the US. I think the dentists in Mexico know word of mouth is everything so they do everything they can to provide the best care.

I am a dental hygienist in Southern California. I have 33 years experience. I agree this is a great deal. Make sure you get referrals from people who’ve been there. There is no reason why dentistry should be so expensive in Mexico. As long as you have properly trained, clinicians, a system, where you know 100% they are sterilizing the Instruments, the third wish may be hardest, is to find somebody that will back up their work if things go not according to plan.

Growing up and to this day my parents have always gotten medical care in Tijuana. I highly recommend going to a place where a relative has gone to or even knows the staff personally. Today’s waiting time to cross the border is insane so I highly recommend applying for sentir. Very difficult to get authorization. Another way is to ask people you know who do daily commute crossing and ask when is rush hour that way you avoid those timings. Also do appointments early in the morning you really don’t want to be wandering around when the sun starts going down.

The treatment was excellent with the cost was just astronomical. No telling what I could’ve got it done down there for.

Really great information. Thank you! Re: Global Entry or Sentri to speed your crossing into the US....The process to get either of those can be months long. The Medical Pass you mentioned if you are driving is fast and easy. But, if you are walking, and the line is long you can buy a bus ticket from one of the nice people selling them for $10 at the line. They will guide you to the bus area.The bus company has an APIS agreement with Customs/Border Protection. They will pre-screen you and board you on a bus that takes you through/past the vehicle Sentri line. A CBP agent opens a gate that allows direct access to the building where the CBP agents are located. You will have a designated and most importantly, short, line to do a normal check of your documents. I do this nearly every time I cross into the US and normally takes 30-45 minutes, even when the walking line is a 3-4 hour wait.

Great video. I second everything you did in this video. I have been going to Tijuana for years. I use Tijuana Dentist Advanced Smiles, Dermapiel Dermatology, and Simnsa Medical Center. The savings are incredible. For one dermatology procedure, I was quoted $750-900 in the US. I paid $70 in Tijuana. Got $10.000 dental work done for $3500 with better materials and better service.

Hmm,...I have traveled to TJ probably 20 times for dental and just to get away...In recent years has to used East ,( San Ysidro) border and admittedly I have always procrastinated on getting a Sentri card...but I have always left around 8:00 am and never spent more than 1.5 hours at longest to cross...Usually 45 minutes.

Gareth, the is incredibly helpful. I live in southern AZ and I'm ok with my insurance, but so many seniors ask about getting low cost dental care in Nogales. Some are afraid to cross the border.alone. Another question is joint replacements. I know that Costa Rico has a pretty nice package combining a tour on your first day then surgery and aftercare in a hotel. Another major question is pharmacies Veterinary care is a terrific idea. The cost in the US is through the roof. It looks like the Mexican border area is benefiting from medical tourism too. That makes me very happy. Thank you, Gareth!
