Bumrungrad Hospital provides ease of use that is tough to match, offering you the ability to get world class health care with English speaking doctors and nurses. There's also Thai Food for lunch.

Quick question! From one of your old videos you mentioned about the health insurance. Nomad(safety wing) with recently moving to Bangkok with my wife and 2 kids I went online straight away. Seems like a good insurance but it doesn’t cover heart/cancer/strokes. Can you recommend any other insurances for a family. Cheers Andy Glad your ok too 👍

Last year, I underwent the same checkup at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, including a dermatologist visit. I didn't have any symptoms, but the dermatologist advised taking a biopsy from one mole. I did so, and it turned out to be skin cancer melanoma. Thankfully, it was in the first stage, and they promptly removed it, so I don't need any further treatment. The doctors in Russia failed to identify it. If I hadn't done this checkup, my chances of survival would have been slim, as melanoma is one of the most aggressive types of cancer. Great medicine in Thailand.

I hope your doctor scheduled you for semiannual return visits to closely examine all of your skin to make sure another melanoma does not occur. Apparently, if you have one your chances of getting another are increased. I had the same thing happen to me and was surprised at how much tissue they removed for a rather tiny spec on my back. I still go back once a year for a head to toe skin inspection by my dermatologist.

As a Thai who is now a medical staff in the US hospital. I can tell how lack of caring the western doctors can be due to because of HIPAA restrictions and the risk of EVERYTHING. Insurance premiums decides who lives and who cannot. It’s sad when I thought the US supposed to be the leader in this field as a first world country, but no matter how advanced the country is, it’s nothing worthy if they cannot even put that techs into use.

So true, doctor. All these USA hospitals keep advertizing all the hi-tech they have for various diagnosis and treatments but they do not mention you have to have top health insurance to be able to afford all those tests and treatments. I personally have been to Mexico and so have my neighbors for dental work because the oral surgeon there is super, caring and 1/4th the cost of USA.

I am Thai but I live in Germany now. I can now compare and say out loud that medical service is Thailand is one of the best (if you get it from private hospitals). Doctors are well-trained. Nurses are kind and sympathetic. The cost is much cheaper compared to what you get. Leading hospitals like the one in the clip invest in new technologies regulary as well. I really miss how fast I can access to medical treatments. In Germany, it takes me weeks or months for any treatment. The saddest part is that I am paying here more than what I paid in Thailand for this lower quality..

Bumrungrad has enormous significance for my family. I lived in Bangkok for 5 years from 2001 and it was our go-to medical centre. My wife fell pregnant during this time and gave birth to our twins there, now, almost 21 years later we are soon to return to Thailand for our first visit in many years, with our soon-to-be 21 year old twins tagging along. I can’t begin to explain the memories and emotions stirred up by this video, suffice to say that we are so excited to be heading back there. I share this guy’s love for Thailand and its people, and also hope for nothing but the best for this amazing country. Oh, and I also took the big medical check-up every year at Bumrungrad! I went to Bumrungrad last January for a cardiology check. The doctor was a Captain in the Thai navy. Among other checks they did a heart ultrasound and then compared it to an ultrasound made after I had been through a stress ECG. The doctor could observe this in his office. He came in with an image from the original ultrasound and showed me how both were identical. One of the things I find impressive is that they get immediate lab results for cholesterol, blood sugar etc. Chris, one essential thing you need to do once a year, as a guy over 50, is get a urology exam to screen for prostate cancer.

I had the physical done there. “ Head to toe in a half a day”. They found the very beginning of bladder cancer. I brought the info back home and it was confirmed. Removal was done right away. No problems since. They very likely saved my life. I remember that the baht was about 45 to the US dollar, so at that time, the testing was about 300 bucks. I would recommend it to everyone My US doctor was amazed at the amount of blood work they did. He said there were a number of blood tests that each would cost more than the whole physical if I had them done at home. I chose a 7 am appointment, was done and had lunch around 12 noon, then sat with the doctor to go over everything. Was out by 1:30

Bumrungrad Hospital has always been a topnotch hospital with the latest equipment. I've been there for exams years ago and was always impressed with the high level of professional services provided there. Making an appointment online made getting in quick and easy, and avoiding long lines. I saw a neurologist and had an MRI scan done faster and far cheaper than having it done in the US. As it turned out, I had to be in Thailand anyway. I've also had a stress test done (in the US) at a heart center. Instead of a treadmill, I was given was a chemical stress test. As I understand, the stress tests are to simulate having a heart attack. It felt like having a full-grown elephant sit on my chest. I thought my heart was going to explode and was very glad when it was all over. The end result was that my heart was very strong and healthy.

The latest equipment is NOT what makes a hospital good; it is what the staff can do with it. You can give a bad cook the best ingredients but his/her meals will always be poor to mediocre. A good cook does not need top-quality ingredients to make a good meal.

@@nieuwegeljo5645 I agree. Having highly skilled staff is vitally important. However, based solely on my own personal experiences and research, the staff at Bumrungrad International Hospital are indeed highly qualified. The hospital and staff have top rated international accreditation. They are highly trained and skilled to use the equipment they have. That's not to say there aren't other excellent hospitals in Bangkok or elsewhere in Thailand. There are. But in my opinion, I'd say Bum's reputation is pretty much at the top of the heap with regards to highly qualified professionals and the best possible equipment.

My cardiologist rushed me to the hospital for an emergency stint procedure, all three of my main arteries were block, the LAD (widow maker) was 99% blocked the other were 85 and 70 My Urologist found a tumor in my bladder, its cancer, small and low grade but if left alone it would penetrate my bladder wall and I would have to have my bladder removed. 4000 baht is about $115 USD. A few years ago, I went to my hospital under my employer's insurance plan for an eye infection in the US. I paid a $50 co-pay before I could see a doctor. After I was seen by my doctor, I paid $15 for antibiotic eye drops, and about a week later, I received a bill for $150! Remember, this is my medical insurance plan through my employer. I pay a $100 premium through my salary deductions every month and my employer covers the difference. Since I didn't meet my deductible of $2K, I had to pay the full cost of the procedure! The insurance doesn't kick in until I spend out-of-pocket $2K per year! Do you think the health care system is broken in the US??? For the same eye infection treatment in Thailand, I probably would have paid $30 USD including the eye drops.

If your insurance covers it then, it's all right. If not, next time just ask for a prescription and only pay for a doctor fee/hospital charges. Normally, private hospitals in Thailand will charge 200%-400% over what sold in pharmacies outside.

Thanks Chris, welcome to old age. Get the colonoscopy. Almost everyone has polyps that can turn cancerous. Also, go to the cardiologist and get an echocardiogram. Last week out of nowhere I had Afib for 24 hours in Kuala Lumpur. Stayed in the hospital for 1 night. Nothing wrong with the heart. The echo Cardiogram confirmed it. So you never know when this stuff happens. Good luck on your health journey. Oh, get an Apple Watch. That is how I found that Afib had started.

I did this in April 2023 at Bangkok Hospital - diagnosed with fatty liver and 'abnormal' ECG. this was a wake up call to give up alcohol, sugar, and start intermittent fasting. Now i feel and look like i'm in my 20's (i'm 44) - ECG was a bit of a crock, i got a follow up Echocardiogram in my own country NZ and there was 'mild' thickening of the heart wall as opposed to LVH which was diagnosed in Bangkok. The fatty liver that was real though so out goes all the junk food. Also, watch out for the acceptable ranges they tend to be a bit too high, especially liver, uric acid and a few others. just because you're in the acceptable range doesn't mean you're in the clear.

Should you go for a third opinion on ECG result? I mean it's an image from ultrasound and each doctor may read the image differently. I used to alternate my annual medical check-up between Bangkok Hospital and Phayathai Hospital. Every time I had my abdominal ultrasound, a doctor at Bangkok Hospital would tell me I had a cyst in my kidney, but when I did it at Phayathai Hosital they said I didn;t. It was like this for 5-6 years. I later didn't do the checkup for 4-5 years. I just start doing again for the past 2 years both at Bangkok Hospital. They didn't detect anything this time. So, either the cyst was gone or one of the doctors just wrongly read the image.

Your experience here is far, far beyond night and day to what's happening now in the USA. I recently had my 5th colonoscopy due to my being high risk for colon cancer (my Grandmother died of it). Even though I'm high risk, I had to wait 7 months for the procedure. Even worse, it took almost 4 months for my 'follow-up' visit, in which I found out I now have diverticulosis, as well as the fact that the polyp they removed was an adenoma (I was told I was 'lucky' because it most certainly would have grown into a cancerous tumor). So yeah,, get that colonoscopy, it's no big deal. I guess the only real question for most of us is, how much did it cost you?

You had several negative slopes on your ECG (Negative T-waves in III, V1,AVR) which can indicate that there has been a damage to your heart. Thats why she wants you to see a cardiologist. The negative T slopes were not deep which is good but still negative. No ST elevation or depression, no Q waves which is good.

Reasons why US Healthcare is a MESS: 1) High Labor costs. Just think how much the people at this hospital make per day. 2) Litigation Costs. Just think how lawyers and medical practice lawsuits are filed. Does anyone think a foreigner can file a medical practice lawsuit in Thailand? The US heath care system never change. Only way would be to eliminated 50% of lawyers int the US.

Bumrungrad is the most expensive hospital in Thailand. It was acquired by Arabs years ago and they renovated the hospital and made price adjustments to target westerners. You are basically paying low-end USA prices. Their surgeries cost more than top USA university hospitals. Even this comprehensive test should be no more than $1-200 more in the west. And forget Samitejiv as well, they are the second most expensive. If you came to Thailand just to get lower cost treatments, I suggest Bangkok Hospital.

I lived in Bangkok for a little over three years recently. Retired. Originally from the states. I had some medical issues during my stay. I also have ongoing medical issues which are treated by medications. The majority of the time I went to Bumrungard Hospital. I saw my primary doctor there and necessary specialists. I didn’t use any of the packages since my health insurance paid for it. I did have to have surgery there to have a kidney stone removed. Bumrungard is an excellent hospital. Earlier during my stay I went to Samitivej a handful of time It’s just like everywhere else. Some doctors are better than others. During my stay I changed doctors a handful of times. But the majority are excellent. So are the staff.
