My husband and I went here for our honeymoon unknowingly. It was down below like a speakeasy and I can honestly say it was great experience. We never had drinks like it before. A little on the pricey side but worth the experience.

Why does David Chang always call Ramen (la-mein) Ramyun (lam-yun)? Ramyun is Korean noodles and is the incorrect pronunciation of ramen.

You are absolutely wrong. But before I break down why you're wrong, let me tell you why it is that David pronounces it that way. While he may not be the strongest Korean speaker, I assume he heard his parents pronounce it as "lamyun" as well has any of his other Korean friends (if he had any). Imagine living with parents or relatives who had a strong Texan accent, you'd just naturally adopt some of accent in your own way without even knowing it. Finally on to why you are wrong. Koreans pronounce ramen as Lamyun, because that is the correct way to say it (with their phonetics). And if you want to be a dick about it, the Korean pronunciation is actually closer to the correct way of saying than the Japanese interpretation. You may not be aware, but the word Ramen is derived from the Chinese word (拉麺) or lamian. Koreans and Japanese share characters with the Chinese because the Chinese were such a huge influence in our respective cultures. Ramen aka Lamian aka Lamyun does not belong to the Japanese. The Japanese version is just that, their own version, but the word itself is originally Chinese. Also, Ramen does not

ChicagoTurtle1 I doubt it. I asked Ueno why the name choice when I was there. He said he didnt want his bars name directly associated with any cocktail or alchohal. He said he wanted people to think happy thoughts when they thought of his bars name and just figured people are always happy when they are high fiving.

That's right. Get his signature White Lady. It changed my life the first time I had it. Ended up getting 5 of them. I remembered I cried upon the last sip.
