Thanks for sharing this. This brought back many memories of the studio. I started there as a tour guide around April or so of 1987. Tour guide & studio dink. Lol. When I first started the cafe did not exist. You had to stand outside in the heat & wait. We had a sign that hung in the door that said your in progress. During Elvis week I was the only tour guide. I would start tours around 8:30am, every 30 min. And the last tour around 6pm. The souvenir shop was in the front office. Till this day I will sometimes wake up in my sleep giving a tour. Lol. At that time non of the extra things sitting around the wall was there. So the room sounded pure. I had the privilege of working with Scottie Moore on a session he was brought in for & interview. He brought h is ES 295 & the original Ray Butt’s amp that he used. It had a built I echoplex in it. We mic’d him up. And is the control room it was like we were in a time warp. So many stories. But I was there from 1987 to 1993. I was blessed to be a part of making history as I have engineering credits on the Rattle & Hum project as well as the first session that U2 did. Which is why they came there to begin with. To record a song for a Woody Guthrie tribute album. A song called Jesus Christ. The ‘56 set of Ludwig’s that Larry Mullen Jr used was actually found by Robert Hall. Who had the Memphis Drum Shop. That drum kit was there when I went to work there. Which was at least a year or more before U2 recorded there. The mic they say that was donated by Sam Phillips. That was our kick drum mic. When micing up the drum kit. I did have the privilege to work with Jerry Lee on several sessions & Carl Perkins. I was blessed to actually meet the secretary before she passed away. Precious lady. As well Ms Taylor that has the cafe at that time. I could go on & on. Maybe I need to write a book. Lol. Just so much history. Oh as far as AC in the studio. A window unit up arc the top. We’d have to flip the breaker to shut it off so we could record. When we got ready to roll tape. When I moved to south MS in 1993, it was a fully functional 24 track studio with a Soundcraft 1600 producer series console & Soundcraft 2” tape machine. That of course has all long since been removed. The Sun Studio cafe was a fully functioning cafe that serves plate lunches Mon thru Fri. So much has changed. I do like how the upstairs that used to be a record shop & offices was remodeled and utilized. Anyways. I’ll hush. Just living in the moment lol. Thanks for sharing this video.

Nice video. Just for the record, the huge guitar up top hanging above the door is not a Gibson Les Paul. Les Pauls are not hollow body guitars. They are solid. That guitar looks like a Gibson ES-295. Scotty Moore played one.

Great and interesting video.... So much history there... Not just Elvis, but so many others.... If those walls could talk.... Just think if you could time travel just in that one place.... The things you would see would be amazing..... Great video... Like how even though you could film, you talked over the pictures... Great segment.... Thanks for sharing... take care.... Have a great day... thanks..👍👍👍

It’s amazing how the upstairs room has been developed,to include a mock-up (?) of Dewey Phillips Radio studio from the Chisca Hotel. I first visited the Sun Studio in September 2002.
