Thanks for having Scott on the show Marc. We all want to know what’s going on behind the scenes with recruiting and I know Scott can only share so much. We’ve all heard about challenges behind the scenes with NIL. I find it hard to believe that everything with NIL is just going fine

NIL money is taxable and USC is at a severe advantage since there's that 13% extra tax. Lincoln Riley's offense also scores quickly and no defense is sustainable when it has to be on the field all the time. It's why competent teams can come back and beat a Riley coached team.

ND fan here....Ive got USC going 10-2. With losses to Mich and ND. The rest of the schedule is pretty manageable. Get past LSU and you have a great chance. PSU is always overrated. The recruiting thing comes in waves, lots can change quick. Win on the field, they'll come to USC. You'll be fine.

I agree with you except USC beats the Irish in L.A. but maybe stumbles somewhere on the road.

SC second loss will be in the playoff, my opinion. They will be 12-2.
@traxiii6 ай бұрын
@@marcusnelson1465 If the defense works out, it wouldn't surprise me if the first loss was in the conference championship game to tOSU, but that is being a little overly optimistic before seeing anyone play. Beat the Tigers, then we'll have an idea how things ought to go. I am very encouraged that our players will at least be in the right position and know their assignments with the awesome coaches there now.

Marc and Scott, I did some research you might be interested in. In Coach Riley's career as a head coach, his teams have won 96% of the time when they're predicted to win and 56% when they're predicted to lose. In the 2024 season, they're expected to win in seven games (Utah State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Maryland, Rutgers, Washington, Nebraska, and UCLA). They are expected to lose in four games (LSU, Michigan, Penn State, and Notre Dame). If Coach Rilye's winning percentage stays true to form, then USC should win all 7 games they're expected to win, and they should win 2 of the games they're expected to lose. Therefore, the USC season record (based on the career game statistics) should be 10 wins and 2 losses. So USC should make the playoffs. Just the stats.

You are my new human calculator and statistician!✌🏼😎❤️
@amantepulido59686 ай бұрын
But 7 + 2 only equals 9? They must win not only all the seven they’re expected to win (rather 100%), plus the eighth win statisticians are iffy about, then, you’re right, 50% of the four they’re expected to lose - to get to 10 wins. But they’ll get THREE out of four, at least. Now this is after taking my anti-psychotics

Enjoyed listening to Scott . He made a lot of sense and has great experience and insight . So here are my takeaways . SC right now is in no man’s land . Because of last seasons performance especially on defense along with the last 15 years of mediocre football , they are behind the eight ball . Five star and even many four star recruits in many cases have better options than going to SC. Why ; they can go to a local powerhouse team , win , play for a playoff team and get paid . Why would a five star defensive player from Georgia come to USC - really only one way , to over pay them . Without that , they will go locally So where does this leave SC - 1) Recruit players who are three and four star players they can get and develop. Get players of need . 2) Start winning on a consistent basis with improved defense . I think SC will probably go 8 and 4 next year . This won’t necessarily help the program but not hurt it as well , as long they look better than 2023, play better defense and build a good culture . . So In conclusion, if we can keep the coaches , show improvement every year we will eventually get there . But because of the 23 season compared to the 22 season , it is not going to happen overnight . Unfortunately, 23 has really slowed down our improvement curve drastically. If we had back to back years of 10 plus wins and an improved defense we would be in the national conversation today regarding the playoffs. Let’s be realistic we are not in the realm of a playoff team yet . But hopefully with good improvement year after year we will get there , especially with the coaches , brand and being in SoCal.

Distance is nothing but an excuse. Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St and Notre Dame have ZERO problems landing and keeping our kids from out here. So we shouldnt have problems keeping commits from georgia or florida or wherever, IF we were doing our jobs, winning, putting out quality product on the field, developing kids for the next level, and paying them. We lack in all those areas and those are just the facts. And until we demand change and we put constant pressure and Lincoln on the hot seat and the administration on the hot seat for continuing to employ him, we’ll NEVER see change.
@brianhenley93146 ай бұрын
You're delusional kids that grow up in the southeast for them to come to California it's a culture shock to put it mildly now kids coming from the West Coast whether it's Washington Oregon or California and Washington and Oregon are completely different than California but some kids like the slower Pace after living in the fast lane growing up so it's easier to transition to a place that is more rural slow a certain level of comfortability and safety
@alanmaddox57726 ай бұрын
@@brianhenley9314 I disagree with your comment. First Blessembreaks wasnt talking about culture he simply was addressing Marc & Scott's comments to distance & Bless said distance is a non-issue & hes right. Concerning culture that is a different issue altogether & lets not be naive culture shock goes both ways also lets face it the weather in Cali is much better than anywhere in the country. In the past prior to Helton USC never had problems keeping kids in state this is a relatively new problem & it needs to addressed honestly. Our top high schools go across the country kicking ass & taking names & we do it going up against the best nationwide so maybe some of the players in Cali are not being evaluated properly but either way Kids are being highly recruited out of Cali on a regular basis all over the county except for some reason at USC. Their is no reason USC should not be focusing on Cali kids and frankly we should be able to pull kids from Bishop Gorman in Nevada as well. Their is no reason the best players at top schools like Mater Dei & St John Bosco are taking offers from schools in the SEC over USC something is wrong with our program it could be the money bag but whatever it is we are not competing on a recruiting level like we should be & that's a real problem. It does not matter if we have a new facilities & an awesome stadium if we cant put championship contenders & championship talent to play in it frankly it means nothing except we got a great stadium to watch from with low expectations & that's unacceptable. The bottom line is our recruiting problems have to get fixed period no excuses.

I'll say this people have realize the state of USC, I mean the road it's coming off. Other universities aren't dealing or have been abused with bullshit sanctions like USC but SMU. USC has dealt with a lot for years, sanctions set them back. You have self made mistakes, you have your landscape took out from under you and gave it to UCLA, Sanford, Oregon, you have Washington had access to it. We come off the sanctions we're years behind the eight ball. We have to three ex coaches recruiting against us than an now two. One was at LSU, and one is at Ole Miss. One was at Washington, now at Texas. People we had them at Alabama. We have to be patient and allow our program to grow and start winning. We will be back, it's just a long road and now we're dealing with the NIL. So stand by

I mean people are running around blaming Lincoln Riley, for what? Yes he stuck with his last defensive coordinator. Your supposed to. People do think our new coach would have come if Lincoln fired his guy a year into the job, no. Remember people Lincoln Riley was doing a good job recruiting California at Oklahoma. I mean go look at some of those rosters under him. It's just a different thing for him here and recruiting for the actual university of USC. It was easier for him to recruit guys from Oklahoma than it is now. People USC was a mess when he got here, Lincoln had to fight his way out of a box to get it rolling. I promise you guys that landscape we lost, it will be back. People are crying about Lincoln Riley since he got here and turn some SEC top universities. Now their mad and want him fired. I promise you guys we fired Lincoln Riley today and tomorrow then same haters will be calling him. People than you here nothing but how great s coach he is. People Lincoln Riley and is staff had two or three SEC guys committed, that's saying something in the state were in from last year. You know the SEC teams want to recruit California but don't think anyone outside that area should come recruiting. Georgia, on3, rivals, 247, their hounding JuJu Lewis as we speak. It's amazing to watch all these agencies and universities hating on USC. It lets me know that we're headed in the right direction. People were recruiting and wait till our NIl gets really, really rolling. It's on and popping as they say on the streets. Oh it's not funny when the rabbit has the gun!!! Lol
