I am a veteran and this man/veteran is telling the truth. I was in in-patient treatment here and it is a mess. They had a HudVash program to get veterans housing, and it turned into a big joke, we veterans faced people with no idea what the hell they were doing, dropping the ball and really bad service. The VA dropped the ball on that program, how can you say if a person is living in their car, then they are not eligible for a housing voucher. Then the VA outsourced this program to organizations like PATH and a few others and most veterans ended up SCREWED. It is still a big mess.
@stevem4373 жыл бұрын
What about the VA loan program? It allows you to purchase a home with no money down and not pay PMI. I am also a veteran. We are given so many resources and benefits. VA loans, GI Bill, disability, medical care, preferential treatment when applying for jobs... Why do you also need housing vouchers?

Using the internet? Watching videos of other homeless people trying to justify your own situation? You’re on here calling me a liar, but it sounds an awful lot like you’re the issue here. Questioning whether I served because I KNOW that veterans are taken care of? Veterans that squander all of the resources they are given by the VA and government are the disgusting ones. Yes, but they need someone to manage the funds who has not only a vested interest (a vet) and record of success in this type of complex environment, but also experience managing these types of funds, building coalitions and most importantly - sucessfully negotiating with and standing up to the government.

Just think about this for a second, people fight for their country, they give up their lives to serve their country, and when they are no longer needed they are cast aside. Makes you wonder why people even sign up anymore. This is absolutely disgraceful, but typical of governments and greed.

It's interesting this came out today. Today would have been my dad's birthday. He was a vet. Engineer fought in Gulf war. They should get out of California if they can come to a state like Oklahoma. It's boring, but they house, feed, give money, medical, and even a free fishing license to vets here. They also pay no tax, property, sales, or anything. There are states that take care of them California is not one of them.

I couldn't see why homeless vets existed until I almost became one myself. I was short-notice honorably separated (served 6 yrs) right after a rare disease diagnosis IN THE MIDDLE OF oncology (cancer center) appointments. Yes they were aware but stated "we can't hold everyone that's getting seen off base". But the fact is all health insurance stops unless you re enlist, get a prior disability rating, or retire. They gave me NOTHING. The disease is so rare and "new" that most hospitals have no code for it and because military doctors didn't know what it was, they honorably discharged me as if I was perfectly healthy saying "they didn't know I was going to be put on chemotherapy". Its standard to get tests done before chemo treatment and they discharged me without 1 phone call to check in on my oncology care. I had to either make the decision to go in debt to continue treatment......or halt all treatments and just get to working with no disability ratings, no care. When you're discharged with no health insurance, paychecks stop suddenly, and have to find a job asap.....it's a major risk to pull from savings in case you need to move or can't find work right away etc. Health insurance premium is worth a full month rent, car bills, phone, and groceries. Do I want to be homeless or do I pretend like I'm healthy.....🤦🏾♀️ military Healthcare is insane. I have tumors, chronic circulation problems, anxiety disorder, chronic fatigue, and more. No Healthcare whatsoever.

I am a 20 year Vietnam Vet, and I am so fortunate that I have been self supporting since 1975. The VA was not there for me way back then, but things have changed, now that I am 83 years old and married with lots of support. I have a loving caring wife and she takes care of my physical needs. I live in Marina CA and the new VA clinic opened a couple of years ago. One thing I learned along the way is those in control, protect their jobs. This huge multi story clinic has just about everything under the sun as far as special function except Doctors. As you look down the hallways one thing you don't see is Doctors. You have to ask yourself, why would someone want to work at the VA if they have a thriving money making office and work at a place that just doesn't pay all that much. Not many BMW, Mercedes cars or other expensive cars parked in the lot, like in some Dr's office I see elsewhere. It's life and I get it, go where the money is. When I check in at the local hospital, I am asked , what's your insurance, and when I say Medicare, I get the "OH" and I follow up with but I have Tricare for life, then I hear Oh Ok, but it's down the hallway around the corner and have a seat, someone will be with you shortly. The homeless Vets don't even get that. With COVID and no jobs Vets are in big trouble. I see what I suspect are people that aren't Vets, and are BS ing for freebees. I appreciate what this man is trying to do. He is clean cut and obviously not on drugs.
