Attention, K Mart shoppers!! The mansion in Detroit was built for Sebastian S. Kresge, founder of what would become K Mart. The Ayer mansion in Boston is up on Zillow: designed by Tiffany, no less ($14,995,000 and where future general George Patton proposed to his wife Beatrice Ayer).

I suspect I will have to do a post for each house. First up, Baywood. What can I say, it is lovely. I especially love the floor tiling on the front and side porches, gorgeous. I agree, the kitchen and the bathrooms look lovely and usable. The one room I didn’t particularly like was the library. I don’t get the knights armor and where are the bookshelves. Between us and our children’s book collection we have well over a thousand books.

Finally, Detroit. The house is spectacular! and really well preserved. The kitchen doesn’t really work but I would love to win the lottery to have enough money to buy, furnish, and maintain this house. But Detroit? It’s too far north and it’s Detroit 😳

The last house, the Kresge mansion, was at one point abandoned and roof caving in, etc. A few pictures can be found thru google. I remember seeing one pic of I believe the sunroom with the roof caved in, dirt and mud everywhere. I believe the current sellers are the ones that restored the house many years ago.

That last house in Detroit is the S.S. Kresge mansion on Boston Blvd and Woodward Ave. Sebastian Kresge owned a very successful chain of 5 & 10 cent stores which later became Kmart in 1962. Anyways the Kresge mansion is one of the largest houses in Detroit behind the Albert J Fisher and Bishop Mansions.

Hi Ken, this is the Photographer that shot 54 Arden Park that you featured earlier this year...remember me? I've been in the Kresge House @ 70 W. Boston Blvd.for the first time for a visit where I got a full tour about 23/24 years ago and then for a Halloween Party later that same year (which was a BLAST 🤩). It's an absolutely HUGE, beautiful and famous house (but I wouldn't call it functional for 99% of todays buyers) that's been on the market for at least 4 years now. It's on the corner of Woodward & W. Boston Blvd. and it's giant lot (4 acres, approx.) and giant size are what's been keeping any buyers away. The Seller is on his 3rd set of Agents and the price just keeps dropping & dropping unfortunately. Fantastic house for sure, but it takes NON STOP dump trucks of cash to maintain, heat, landscape, secure, electrify and improve the house. Any potential buyer would have to be a multi millionaire with big bucks to burn and be MADLY IN LOVE with that place to buy it.

I love these videos! Of course, all the houses were magnificent, but my favorite were the first two. I would probably choose house number one (Baywood) to live in. It was the "coziest" house in my opinion. I also just truly love Victorians. The things I love the most about old houses(besides the histories) is fretwork, winding stairs, stained glass work and wallpaper! Thank you Ken and Dalton!

Really love this tour though sometimes you went too fast but that's OK....I can always check out the properties on Zillow and look at the pictures at a slower speed. i also like you giving us some of the reasons for the details inside, i.e., the glass-fronted bookshelves or the cupula used to vent heat from the houses. Thanks for spending the time showing us these homes.

I really like these videos. About 30 years ago when I would have to apartment search, I loved going to as many as possible to see the differences, and I would pick the one with the best kitchen, it was always about the kitchen for me lol. We currently live in a house that was built in the 1980's and we're the second owners. How about doing a video on houses built in the same year?

::UPDATE:: It just came to me.. you previously asked for suggestions on what House's to review.. I had commented to do (Castles, Stone, Brick, Etc..) basically all House's Masonry.. (which I still stand by this recommendation.. I've also had another epiphany for a House Review that I think would be great for you to make a video on is a Castle 🏰 in the next town over from where I live! The Castle is called Hearthstone Castle Located in Danbury CT. interestingly enough.. the Castle is in Tarrywile Park and the park has a Mansion on the Property as well!! The Castle was built in the late 1800's as a large Estate and the Mansion was built later on then the City of Danbury bought the property and.. Well, I'll let you tell the story.. 😉🤣 I hope to see your deep dive on this eccentric property soon!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 Thanks again to you and Dalton and everything you guys do! Sincerely: Brett 😊

Buffalo. The exterior is charming but for the location and the state of the house (except for the entrance and pool room) I think this house is way over priced. My brother bought a house built around 1900 on 11 acres in Vicksburg. It’s spectacular and he has slowly been renovating, himself. But when he gets to the master bath and the kitchen/laundry room, I really think he needs to hire a designer.

A friend of mine bought an old house with hand painted Mexican Tile flooring. He didn't like it because the hand work was uneven. I told all he has to do have it professionally cleaned, sealed and waxed. He instead tore it up and put down bone white imitation wood ceramic tile. Painted the walls white too. Horrible, horrible, horrible looking interior.

One VERY important thing everyone watching this video should remember is this.........ALLLLLL of the interior photos of these homes have ALL been so unbelievably over-edited, meaning over brightened that the Photographers have truly crossed the line into misrepresentation. These historic homes are not ANYwhere near as absurdly bright & clear in reality as they are in these corrupted photos. Edit them, yes. Brighten them up, yes. Make them look like cartoons or CGI images, NO. 🤯😵‍💫🤬
